It's stimulant according to the patent that lacks the alpha-methyl.

It looks like an open-chain analogue of ritalin and therefore would not be expected to last all day because the ester undergoes saponifcation.

I don't understand what is your rationale for claiming it is part opioid, can you explain? It is not that close to pethidine in structure.
