To A Solution Of 32.5 Grams Anhydrous Ammonium Acetate In 120 mL MeOH, There Was Added 7.12 Grams Of MDP2P Followed By 2.0 Grams Of Sodium Cyanoborohydride. The Resulting Yellow Solution Was Vigorously Stirred, And Muriatic Acid Was Added Periodically To Keep The pH At 7.0. After Several Days, Undissolved Solids Remained In The Reaction Mixture And No More [HCl] Was Required. The Reaction Mixture Was Added To 600 mL Of 1:100 💯 Dilute HCl, And That Was Washed With 3 x 100 mL Aliquots Of DCM. The Combined Reactions Were Backwashed With A Small Amount Of Dilute HCl, The Aqueous Phases Combined, And Made Basic With 25% Red Devil Lye From Winn Dixie. This Was Then Extracted With 3 More 100 mL Portions Of DCM [CH2Cl2] Which Was Then Back Extracted With A Small Amount Of 25% NaOH. This Was Then Extracted By 3 × 100 mL DCM, These Extracts Combined And The Solvent Removed With A Roto Vap To Provide 3.8 Grams Of A Red Colored Residue. That Was Then Distilled @ 80 To 90° Celsius At 0.2 mm Hg To Provide 2.2 Grams Of An Absolutely Water White Oil. There Was No Evidence Of A Carbonate Salt When Exposed To Air. The Oil Was Dissolved In 15 mL 91% Pure Isopropyl Alcohol, Neutralized With 25 Drops Of Muriatic Acid, And Diluted With 30 mL CH3CH2-O-CH2CH3 [Diethyl Ether] Gas. Slowly There Was The DepositionOf White Crystal's Of mda.hcl.
