I'm a little tempted by sherlock holmes has anyone seen it yet?

Fucks sake you want some Downey then : Hit up
Less Than Zero (1987) is particularly notable, not only because it was the first time Downey's acting would be acknowledged by critics, but also because the role pushed Downey's already existing drug habit one step further.

I shouldn't really recommend it as:
1.It is SUCH a product of its time eg the just say no era when anything making drug taking look like hell had their product greenlighted.
2.The book is more than great and the film takes about 10% of the book and adds 30% of some annoying cunts talking wank and 60% of Downey smoking crack.

Its the crack bits that make it essential of course. What a man. What dedication to his art, and by all accounts he was in character on set!

haha I love less than zero but the film is pretty shit (still bought it though :D). the fact they changed clay from a bisexual drugfuck to a hetero alcohol only kind of guy to make him a more palatable leading man really fucked me off.

Spader is pretty good as a shitheel....a role he made his own in the 80's.

I haven't watched the last 2 Ellis adaptations as I know what they've done to them and its called MURDER.

My favourite book for 3 years was the rules of attraction...I read it 25 times. Then one day they take out all the good bits and put James van der Beek in it. I was ready for war....for about a day, then just sighed.

His latest novel, Lunar Park, is being made into a movie looking towards a 2009 release date

Thats one fucked book that will NEVER work as a film. But they said that about Less than Zero and it got made and made money. It raped the book of course, but the book scraped my brain raw when I first read it....still not put it back together.

i really enjoyed rules of attraction haha, far more faitthful to the book despite the relocation to the 90s, shannyn sossamon's character in it is the most beautiful film character of all time and the "victor's vacation" chapter translated to film was amazing.
I'm quite a big fan of the film of American Psycho but can't see lunar park translating to the screen at all well.
Haven't seen the adaptations of glitterati or the informers.

She's the character who loses her virginity to 2 guys at the start and then does ALL the drugs and fucks everyone and then gets pregnant, whilst being obsessed with someone who appears not to know who she is at all. Has an abortion and she splits with Sean.
I KNOW they changed her from that or I would have been in the queue to watch it, even though its got Dawsons gigantic forehead in it.....and he does not look like Sean Bateman from the book....Also I hear they went soft on any homosexual scenes/people...drugs.....
I would watch it but these things gnaw away at me.

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai

really ace film, not what i was expecting at all, thought it was going to be pretty straightforward but wonderfully weird with an excellent soundtrack (and cameo) by the RZA

Great film! Got this on DVD a few years ago, fucking love it. Soundtrack is indeed excellent.

"strange eyes, keep on watching me, i see those strange eyes, keep on watching me" banging tune!

they change the timeline a bit but the film starts with her being fucked by a "townie" while the nyu film student tapes it, she ends up being puked all over while rammed from behind. All the gay content is still in, they do a good job of showing the scenes from both paul and sean's perspectives, there's a lot of drug use and it all feels pretty dark and easton ellis like. van der beek is even pretty decent in it, there was no patrick bateman cameo though but it is alluded to. i really think it's a good film.

^Great film. William Petersen rules. :)

I really enjoyed Palindromes too but seem to be in the minority on that one :\

Been meaning to re-watch it just in case I changed my mind, but I dunno. I don't have good memories of it. And Jennifer Jason Leigh failed me. I was holding out on her too. I think she's awesome...usually.

Welcome To The Dollhouse is definitely my favourite Solondz film though, closely followed by Storytelling. I just love the sheer despair, and nightmarish scenarios. It's my kinda humour. Very very dark and twisted. =D

watched Nightmare on Elm street the other day and of course it wasn't like watching back in the day......am wondering that they may possibly make a decent stab at the remake.

The first Nightmare is fookin' classic. I don't care how dated it looks, that's all part of it's charm. :D

The third one is also cool, and to a lesser extent, the fourth one. It lost it's general appeal when it became a parody of itself. Sometimes things shouldn't know what they are, they should just be.

The remake looks shite though. Caught a glimpse of the trailer and squirmed in my seat in embarrassment. Needless to say, I won't even be giving it a chance. Just on principle. I'm sick to death of every single idea being regurgitated, watered down versions of the originals. :|

That said, there are some decent remakes. It's just the majority are made by talentless, money grabbing twats.

I mean certain horror remakes DO work....any one says that DOTD 2004 is wank needs to be shot!Amazing ending does it alone!

Go ahead and shoot me. :D

That film was OK until that woman gave birth to the mutant. I drew the line at that point.

ps TG Jessica Lang is STILL fit!

This is true. Though I think she was definitely at her peak in 1976. :o

You watch loads of films when you are away travelling?????? 8)

No I don't think I'd watched any until the week I arrived in Saigon and wasn't in a drinking mood so would go out at night, grab some food then just chill out and watch some tele afterwards, so managed to see a fair few films.

Can't be hard at it every night mate as I'm sure you know. :p

Dunno if it'll be any good - but I'll find it interesting -> http://www.bluelight.ru/vb/showthread.php?t=481458

Thanks for that Zoph. Because it led me into Film and TV, where I hardly ever (never) go, and gave me a good laugh with the HD porn thread. That's really funny. Nearly 200,000 views in a month thanks to some creative posting and the genius of google.

Talk about a lesson in how to get rich quick. Though I can't be arsed like.

EDIT - while I'm here, anyone recommend Scanner Darkly? I've been told I have to watch it and now feel compelled. And I don't watch many films really.

I love bank robbery films.

Saw an insane one i can't remember now, was proper brutal.

Point breaks good.

Watched "Domino" on TeeVee last night was an alright watch.
