i might watch ong bak the night, i've not watched a good martial arts film for fucking ages

I'll be checking into these then.
I have been watching the van damme stuff on 5 at the mo and kickboxer was ok, obvously the rest are suspect on every level...apart from the most recent JCVD.

I was VERY surprised when not just Empire, but the Guardian gave it a really good review. And then a few months later its on 5.
Its nothing to do with martial arts...but rather a look into an alternate version of who he really is...like a semi-pseudo-documentary.
Anyway it was actually very good.
Its got one of those long takes in it with proper acting8o
Fucking hell Van Damme can act!

Just watched it and tis okay. Standard issue Star Trek plot (time traveling pissed off aliens bent on revenge and blowing up planets) but definitely a looker. Well, if you like the heavily-filtered, shaky handheld camerawork school of cinematography anyway. One of the better Star Trek films more in keeping with the spirit of the original series. Although the fella who plays Chekhov is ridiculous and Simon Pegg is pretty shit as Scotty - both have some of the shittest fake film accents in living memory. Worth a watch as far as big SFX-dominated blockbuster shizz goes, but probably only at a decent cinema really.

That's Jackie to you. ;)

I used to like a lot of the stuff he did in the 80's. A lot of humour (slapstick) type stuff combined with death defying stunts. Nowadays he's a bit of a joke imo. Totally sold out, and there's nothing I hate more than a sellout. :|

Watched Legend of the Drunken Master last night. Good, but not as good as I remembered. (I swear I saw a subtitled version, and this one was dubbed. Oh well). Still enjoyed it.

excellent sci fi, well written, amazing special effects

i recommend district 9. The plot of the fly meets et meets robocop disguises a tongue in cheek moral fable with a bleak view of humanity.

another +1 for district 9. Definitely one of the better sci-fi movies i've seen in recent years and different in style to most of them.

One of the better films of recent years i would say, most
impressive debut since
Reservoir dogs.

Eastern Promises is quite good.
Scanners.....hahahaha
oh I was into early cronenberg in 1994, had...still have
1. They came from within - Liked a lot, though its SO 70's.
2. Rabid - Sort of the same plot, but done a different way.
3. The Brood - Fucking insane if someone watches it literally without knowing the background behind the plot/script
4.Scanners - So much good....but Stephen Lack presents the all time worst performance ever which each time I've watched it has somewhat derailed it.
5. Videodrome - Would have been the best film ever if it had been made later, but things about it when I watched in the 90's were too far out...not the porn stuff, rather the mental illness of everyone involved and my inability until maybe 1995 to concieve of everyone inhabiting alternative realities. WAIT I AM NOW GOING TO WATCH THIS ASAP AS ITS GREAT REALLY!
6. The Fly - Fucking amazing. Second best remake ever after The Thing. Zero wrong with it. Should be recommending it right here!

Then his stuff changes tack and goes internal horror rather than external body horror. And some I haven't seen.
Ok existenz was a bit videodrome ish. only watched once and really liked. I however feel ill everytime Jude Law is in front of my face in anything. Shiteater.
