It might not have had a cinema release in the UK but it was definitely released in the UK on VHS is the early 1990s. I worked in a video shop at the time of its release and we had a few copies.

I'll be watching this tonight now tho cause it's ace. David Cronenberg is my favourite director and love interest so it makes Nightbreed extra special and I'll be leching away

In other news, I just got back from watching Life of Pi at the cinema

Holy shit. It was beautiful. Movie perfection. A very simple yet engaging story that can reach any audience, containing such a mind-blowing combination of allegories that I know will keep my head busy for weeks. And no pretensions whatsoever.

I fucking LOVE movies that stick with me afterwards. I'll probably get more out of it over the next few weeks while thinking about it than I did while watching it at the flicks. Humanist and possibly one of the most philosophically intelligent movies I've ever seen .. fucking ACE film.

I watched Django Unchained the other day, thought it was quality. Mad OTT gore, but in a good way. Too many white people saying ni**er though. Obviously necessary due to the story but Tarantino seems to have a bit of an obsession with it even in his other movies & went pure baws oot in this one because he could.

Also got RZA's kung-fu movie downloaded. It's meant to be utter shite but I'm sure I'll like it.

There are always a fuckton of early screeners available at this time of year because tons more than usual get distributed around journos and hollyweird to drum up publicity and support for them at the oscars in march.

Haven't been checking torrent sites recently, but its Django out on screener?

I'm gonna go see it next week at the flicks but I can't say I'm not tempted to give it a gander now. I'll see it next Wednesday again regardless tho.

The whole nigger thing pisses Spike Lee off tons too. I don't mind it or see it as derogatory but then I'm not black, so my opinion doesn't really count for much

Man with the Iron Fists looks like absolute garbage PTCH. And it's written by Eli Roth, which kind of confirms it'll be a heap of shit. And that's before you consider Russell Crow.

I'll probably find Zero Dark Thirty will fuck me off loads aswell due to the whole torture thingy. Kathryn Bigelow is James Cameron's ex wife. She was better when she was doing fiction imo. I like Strange Days and Point Break quite a bit. I'm not even remotely interested in the whole Osama capture, so I'll probably give it a miss

There's a high possibility it'll just be Barghg tho because that genre has been done to death already. hope not. I'll still love watching Penn do his schtick tho regardless

Yup. Got it t'other day but not watched it yet. You're not kidding about there being loads screeners out there. Got fucktons of 'em the last coupla weeks that need watching. Django being quite near the top of the list.

Also, nice to see Clive Barker making an appearance in recent discussions. Was my fave author in me teens. Mildy obsessive, in fact. The Nightbreed comic book series was outstanding. Book was good too (is called Cabal for those that haven't read it). In fact I read it again just recently as it happens.
 
I really want to see 'Gangster Squad' as well, looks like my type of film.
Watched 'The Sweeney' at the weekend and really enjoyed that but I like quite a lot of Ray Winstone's films anyway.

i knew nightbreed got a uk video release but hmv told me it didnt get a uk dvd release.
it you download make sure its a dvd rip so you get a better picture quality and proper sound quality its makes a big difference on the home cinema speakers

i never read cabal but clive barker had planned a sequel to nightbreed as rhe ending left that open but cos the film wasnt sucessful it never happened :-(
 
Ya. There's plenty of scope for a return to Midian if he ever gets around to it. He does tend to leave massive gaps between books set in the same "universe" but doubt there'll ever be a sequel to the film. Think it was just too damn weird for most audiences. He's definitely a hard author to capture in film. Hellraiser is as close as any adaptation has got really imo but that was only a novella to start off with. I used to buy all his books in hardback as soon as they were released but got a bit sidetracked. Don't think I've bought one since he did that illustrated children's book and that was ages ago. Really should have a looksee sometime cos he's an incredible writer.

Spike Lee's a fucking bellend who has only managed one good film (25th Hour) since Clockers over 15 years ago (& it's not like he hasn't been churning out fucking tons of the shits). He likes to get all on his high horse as a fucking Jesse Jackson-esque "Spokesman For Black People". He does my box in.

Tarantino's overuse of the word in Django annoys me but not because it offends me, it's a film about slaves there was obviously going to be white people saying it & it would have been ridiculous if there wasn't. It's just that Tarantino clearly thinks "White people aren't allowed to say nigger... but they can in a movie! YAS! NIGGANIGGANIGGANIGGA!!!" It doesn't bother me in the slightest in any of his other films but the over-use in Django starts to get a bit grating, there's scenes that are practically like this - "Tell that nigger to tell that other nigger to stop acting like such a fucking nigger, fucking nigger. That niggerish nigger is a god damn niggery nigger nig" (OK, not that bad but near enough).


Man With The Iron Fists certainly does look absolute garbage & anything close to a review I've read only seems to confirm this. But... RZA %) RZA making a kung-fu flick? %)%) I fully expect it to be technically shite but loved by me.

Kathyrn Bigelow did Hurt Locker, that's what makes me want to see Zero Dark Thirty. Point Break is utter, utter pish lol.

looks like django might annoy me a little bit then. can't find the tv thread. this is great. if anyone remembers the rock and roll years from the tv? rte stole the idea, thought it may have been wogan's idea to start with anyway, either his or henry kelly's. if you like a bit of music, old current affairs with an irish twist (history?) , subtitiles and no nonentity talking heads.

...ah, and thatcher leaving downing street....italia 90....a lil bit of mrs brown style humour. go on crackheid, you'd love it :)

Watched The Hobbit yesterday. Is exactly what you'd expect really. Pretty faithful adaptation, good CGI, lotsa dwarves and elves and stuff. If you like the book, or if you liked the Lord of the Rings adaptations, you'll like this one too probably. Martin Freeman gives excellent hobbit, Ian McKellan is an excellent Gandalf and there's loads of other familiar faces if you can spot 'em under the make-up. Last half-hour felt a bit rushed and disjointed but that was probably just cos I started on the ket around the same time :o

Is a bit slow to start off with cos there's loads of characters to introduce and plot to set up and stuff. Perhaps not such a surprise as he's stretched a relatively short novel out to three films. Although to be fair there is rather a lot of stuff that happens in the novel so it kinda makes sense. Standard problem with trilogies really - the meat of the action tends to be in the second film.
