Sorry to harp on on this specific point (I've already bored all my real life acquaintances who care about JD) but this lot appearing:

,,, would have really broken up the 'go up some stairs, shoot some dudes' rhythm which the film was in at that point. Each of the Angels has a different personality and fighting style and as they were (inevitably) bumped off the survivors would have got more and more angry and violent. Mean Machine would have gone up to 4, no questions. ;)

Aye, I made that rather shortsighted post before I saw your mention of atmosphere. I'm half asleep is my only excuse.

Jancrow - It would have been a bit daft to use the same bad guys as the Stallone movie, don't you think? I totally agree with your point about bringing other characters from the comics in though, they should definitely have done that &, like you, I think it was budget that stopped this. The Judges were already "made" essentially, so wouldn't have really cost much more.

Ah flaps, I forgot that they were in that pile of shite. Ok, point taken. The Dark Judges would be way beyond the first film's remit... people need to be introduced to that world before they give enough of a fuck that some undead nutters have snuck into that dimension to purge it of life. Likewise any of the big classic Mega City-threatening baddies, of which there were many. Back to my A-Z of Judge Dredd for further inspiration, or more likely not. But yeah, I definitely agree that they likely had all the costume design and props done for more Judges at less cost.

When the "bad Judges" showed up at the end it was definitely a bit of a cop-out but I suspect it must've been budgetary reasons. It's such a rich world they had to choose from is a shame they went for - as Jan put so well - "up some stairs, shoot some rent-a-thugs, rinse, repeat" stuff. Can see why they did it that way but was pretty lazy considering the source material. The one other major gripe I has was the Judge helmets. They just looked a bit shoddy and clunky. Nice that he didn't take it off in this one though and he did give good grimchin :D

Lazy in the sense that it really didn't add anything to the plot. Couldn't quite see what the point of 'em showing up was at all - especially for just the last ten minutes or whatever it was. May have just been the ket though - I'm sure there was a reason for them being there that flew right by me. I was quite happy just looking at the pretty things tbh :D

EDIT: Just realised I've mixed up the things I was calling lazy. Don't mind me. I suspect I need more caffeine or summat. Not really woken up yet today 8)

EDIT II: And I'm really just nitpicking cos I mostly enjoyed the film tbh. Can never please the fanboys though can ya? :X

I think they are really milking The Hobbit making three feature films. Theres only around 300 pages in the book, nothing on the scale of LOTR

Ok will do PTCH

Nah but heard Looper mentioned before, just looked it up on amazon, sounds good will check it out

watched the first Bourne film a few weeks ago, thought i had already seen it but it was the second i had seen, wicked film the mini car chase is brilliant

Watched Django Unchained last night. Enjoyed it. Dialogue wasn't quite up to his usual cracking standards but still far from shoddy. A fair few fine sniggers to be had. Speaking of which... Can't say I noticed the niggertalk was all that excessive. Have heard far worse - even Blazing Saddles was worse for excessive use of the "n-word" and that was a straight-up comedy without half the amount of social commentary on American attitudes to racism in there (or at least it wasn't such a focus). Given the film is all about the slave trade it seemed entirely in context to me and not half as excessive as I was expecting after reading some of the comments on it here.

Not me favourite Tarantino flick but well worth a watch and has some great moments in it. Loved the proper oldskool Django blood spurts during the shootouts too =D

PS: Looper is on me HD after some good comments about it here a while back but not gotten around to watching it yet. Got so many films to catch up with it's ridiculous 8)

Cloud Atlas ... anyone seen it?

Just mulling over what to watch. Not read the book, but I've heard good things about it. Not sure I'm up for a 3 hr stretch right now tho. It's the Wachowskis, so could be epic or epically shite

You seen it yet? Watched it last week Marms after you mentioned it. Thanks for that, that's three hours of my life I'll never get back! :\ Stellar cast, beautifully shot in places, some artsy scenes that looked good on psychedelics but generally just a fuckton of WTFness. It made no fucking sense whatsoever. Perfect example of when a director tries a bit too hard with something a bit different that IMO just doesn't come off or hang together as a film all that well.

I had to watch it in three stints Shambles, one sitting more than I could swallow, some more droogied up than others. Chemical intake didn't make much difference to the WTFery apart from it looking prettier in places ( 4-AcO-DMT even mostly fucked by tolerance issues FTW! =D ) but a massive joint or two at least is probably the way forward, yeah.

Argo is a good un, Ben Afleck stars and directed it. Well worth the awards it has won so far even if the original story has been elaborated to the point that it isn't really the true story.

Django unchained is also worth a watch. Set pre cival war, about a slave who becomes a bounty hunter and rescues his mrs who is also a slave.

And Hotel Transilvania is worth a download if you've got kids. Both me the mrs and the kids enjoyed it. About a hotel which is owned by Dracula and his daughter, and the only customers are monsters until a human stumbles upon the place and stays for a bit.
