Just settled down to watch Tropa de Elite 2 but the subtitles have been done by Google Translate or something, useless. Need to hunt down decent subs.

subbed, can't watch dubbed.

Good.

Yeah they stretched the story in the Hobbit, I've had enough of it really, I mean I admire Peter Jackson's efforts to revive the NZ economy and his efforts for temporary job creation, but really I can't see beyond the fact those films are basically 3 hour long advertising spots for the NZ tourism board.

Also Knockando: They didn't just stretch the Hobbit into a 3 hour film, but into a trilogy

Yes, three movies out of that one single book

I agree both amazing films, I guess I liked the first one better, the two characters Neto and Andreas were awesome, you could really connect to them, the whole film was at the same time exciting as an action film but it also highlighted all the issues relating to the endemic corruption and brutality of the system. Loved the contrast between the upperclass university kids and Andreas and his modest upbringing.

LOL.

+1 on Tropa de Elite knock, what did you think of it (I assume you found subs?) and the first one as well? I preferred the second but they're both fucking awesome films IMO

Yeah I got subs off subscene.com, they were very good subs too. It was great, I'm not sure which one I prefer though and fuck you I'm not going to be forced to pick one :p

Saw that Dnepropetrovsk maniacs video a few years ago, brutal

That's one of the things I wish I could un-see & wipe the memory of it from my mind.
I just can't understand how people can do shit like this and think to film it as well, there are some purely evil people out there and I just hope I never bump into any of them.

There is no way I'm sitting through another 3 hour borefest of homoerotic costume wearing wannabe-wizard shit.

I was wondering how other people felt.
I read the book when I was a little 'un and loved it but felt that a film would be too hard to make.
I might check it out just to see if they are anywhere near my imagination. I will probably be disapointed looking at the other incarnations.

I got desensitised to Ismene constantly linking the Daily Mail fairly early on actually.

Picked up the habit of reading news and points of view from people diametrically opposed to me SHM, think it can give you a different insight into the world. Just got Conrad Blacks prison book on the go which isn't actually too bad for such a right-winger.

Made me feel sick tbh

so fucked up aint it. life is weird. or maybe its just humanity thats weird. tis a brutal world though, nature is brutal. the fucked up enjoyment people get out of being so cruel spins my brain, really cant understand it. fair enough for survival and whatnot. guess some people were born without the empathatic part of their brain or something, thats the only way i can see why people can be so fucked up and nasty

'In darkness', quite good as was Europa Europa.

back to topic whores or sam the grim face will have even more of a grim face than usual I expect.

Until The Light Takes Us (full) - a 90min piece on the Norwegian black metal scene. You don't have to be a fan of the music to watch it though, shows you the Norwegian mind frame very well & Fenriz is a fucking don.

The film won loads of awards from film shows too which makes me happy :)

Also taught me about the music of Mum, so it's not all dark N.B.M music all the way through in fact alot of the soundtrack is weird stuff by Mom :)

Anyone seen the Danish film Festen? One of my favourite movies and the director (Thomas Vinterberg) has just released a new film (The Hunt) that won Mads Mikkelsen best actor at Cannes. Definitely gonna have to check that out as well.

Anyway, check it out. So good...

Same. I think the only reason I got behind the LOTR's trilogy was because I was 12. Even by the time I was 14 and re-watched them, they all seemed totally overrated.

I LOVE Festen, it's both depressing and unique. I watched a lot of the Dogme films at the cinema, including Festen and The Idiots. I'm 70% Danish and love cinema so the whole Dogme Manifesto concept had me enthralled.

If you haven't already seen The Idiots check it out. It's somewhat disturbing and uncomfortable to watch, but the principle behind it is quite unique. It's filmed under the Dogme guidelines too.

I really want to see the Vinterberg new one you mentioned as well as Leos Carax's latest one Holy Motors, it's meant to be top notch:

From dawn to dusk, a few hours in the life of Monsieur Oscar, a shadowy character who journeys from one life to the next. He is, in turn, captain of industry, assassin, beggar, monster, family man..

The Idiots is a great film, is it disturbing? I mustn't have read enough into it! I just thought it was funny and oddball.

Just sent off for Holy Motors.
