ichi the killer is a pretty damn good watch

I watched it years ago and found it pretty dreadful. Though I wasn't so much into foreign films at that time and I am now so maybe my opinion will have changed.

really spade? our group found it hit the spot. could well be the subtitle thing.. get stoned and give it another try

my ex flatmate absolutely loved that dude in it, kakhihara with the face metal, even wanted similar piercings the dick

suzuki hook suspension/boiling fat scene.. ftw. made my teeth crawl

I saw the Devil
Broken Flowers
Heathers
Man Bites Dog
Chopper
Memories of Murder
All that Jazz
Night on Earth

Watching The Beach and realising that despite having 'watched' this film about a dozen times (it always gets played in hostels, tourist buses and bars when travelling in backpacker hotspots) I've never seen the whole film. Never saw the start of it before, always started watching it when Di Caprio is already on the island. Good to understand how he ended up there and cool to see places I've been in Thailand too. Can pin point some of the exact locations in Bangkok and on the islands.

I assume you haven't read the book. Do it and you'll soon realize how much of a shameless Hollywood rape the film is. The book is amazing.

Battle Royale with Takeshi Kitano is brilliant. Bunch of Japanese kids get deported to an island and have to slot each other.

Battle Royal is one of my favourites. I love fucked up Asian films. OldBoy is another classic.

Yeah I've read the book. I try not to compare books and films too much though. They are different things and you usually can't just copy a book storyline page for page and make a film out of it so changes have to be made. I like them both.

It's like with Fear & Loathing, the book is amazing, the film is amazing and the audio book is amazing despite all being a bit different. The audiobook is probably one of the best I've ever heard actually, complete with full on trippy music, sound effects, different people doing the voices for each character.

I'll need to download that audiobook. I thought it was just going to be someone straight up reading it.

+1 for Battle Royale & Oldboy btw. Both outstanding movies. I watched Oldboy again quite recently.

I wasn't a great fan of Ichi The Killer, but I've only seen it once a long time ago. Might give it another shot soon.

Fear In Loathing audiobook is far better than any others I've listened to. World War Z by Max Brooks is pretty good too, sound effects, different voices, music. They are making it into a film or maybe already have. Most are just some bloke reading all the characters in funny voices though from what I've heard.

I tried to listen to that World War Z audio book but it was usually while I was lying bed, so I'd fall asleep & then not be able to find where I'd left off.

Gonna get F&L downloaded for Amsterdam.

World War Z has been filmed. They filmed a lot of it in Glasgow. George Square done up to look like Philly. Roads repainted, American cars everywhere, different street lights, traffic lights etc. It was fucking surreal strolling past that on a walk home at night.

Its nowhere near as good as "Margin Call" but still well worth checking out.
Tim Roth is as excellent as ever
Probably Gere's best performance since Internal Affairs, should get him a best actor Oscar nod at the very least

almost didnt bother watching it, never prejudge a movie by its lead star. books even better

Brilliant film, love it

Havent seen Battle royal yet, oldboy ive seen a few times. might watch Battle royal tonight

I watched 'Ill Manors' this afternoon. Thought it was a good film, very gritty urban drama showing all the lowlife shit that goes on in life.
Well worth a watch if you like films showing the other side of life in some of our cities.

Aye used to happen to me too. I listened to it on buses in South America and never knew where I'd left off, every time I listen to it I hear a new chapter.

F&L is quite short though so I reckon I could do it in one go while getting a smoke. Might gub some mushies or whatever the legal ones are (truffles?) & wander about listening to it. I predict I'll need to be fished out a canal.

Some people don't like Ichi the Killer? You're mental, obviously

Miike used to be one of my fave directors. Saw Visitor Q (fucked uploveliness), Ichi and Happiness of the Katakuris on big screen. Happiness is blissfully strange and beautiful. Miike knows how to tell a tale of some of the more sinister traits of Japanese family life like no other

Awesome director

Yeah one listen is easy for F&L. It would probably be good when stoned or slightly trippy. Watch out for the bats though!
