Recommend another good movie per post

fucking hate those gavin n stacey morons but i still watched it coz it was called lesbian vampire killers.

Gavin & Stacey is comedy gold. =D

aye watched gone baby gone recently was mildly surprised definitely watchable and would recommend

For a film directed by Ben Affleck it's really good, I expected it to be really bad just because he's a shite actor really. Karaboudjan is the spitting image of Casey Affleck.

i'm currently watching a room for romeo brass

Another Meadows classic. Love it! :D

I watched 'Rosmaries Babies' by Roman Polanski the other night too, so dissapointed after all the reviews and hype surrounding it. Found it incredibly boring, much like all his older films that I've seen to date. Really enjoyed The Pianist too.

Wasn't sure about Somers Town at first but it's pretty good. Only on for an hour though isn't it?

Cool wee actor that bloke.

haha I tried to watch the new streetfighter - legend of chun li film today, after about half an hour I couldn't take it any more. I mean I knew it was going to be bad but it really is hilariously awful, like watching a spoof in the same vain as 'scary movie' but with action films instead. All the stereotypes are there and the acting is the worst I've ever seen in a hollywood film, what the fuck where they thinking?

In decent movie news, watched 'Traitor' and its pretty good, about an undercover terrorist, pretty fresh and not too predictable a plot.

If you're going to have a wrong opinion about a film at least get the name right 8)

It's because it's a work of genius is all - you can't really be expected to understand so are forgiven, Spadey ;)

For further Polanksi classics, try The Fearless Vampire Killers or: Pardon Me, But Your Teeth Are in My Neck if you haven't already - even the lowest of lowbrows can't fail to be in fits through that one :D

Bruce Campbell is the obvious exception to any rule :D

I also watched Gone Baby Gone and thought it was pretty good, at least thought provoking. Not least to see Omar Little playing a cop and Beatrice "Beadie" Russell as a total druggie whore slut.

Watched this for the 2nd time last week:

Not at all sure about my feelings for it as both times I've watched it I've been thinking for 5 minutes that its got great production design and a strange atmosphere and its basically good....and then 5 minutes later something will happen that annoys me. And out of all Dario Argentos films its the least comprehensible.

You say 'Rosmary's Baby' I say 'Rosmaries Babies'. :p

I'm genuingly interested in knowing what make you think its a work of genuis?

It was fairly dull and run of the mill IMO. Too slow and uneventful and really failed to attract my attention. I received another of his films today. 'What?' which is based loosely on Alice & Wonderland apparently. I'll give it a chance and if it dissapoints I'm giving up on Polanski.

Yeah. Two films pretty much captures all of Polanski's 50+ years of incredibly diverse work so I'd give up on him if you don't like What? :D

As for Repulsion, been years since I've seen it to be honest. It is kinda slow by modern standards because it take time to build a subtly foreboding atmosphere - it drip feeds instead of spoon feeds ;)

Truthfully, I'd probably find it a lil dull myself if I wasn't into all those classic films and been brought up purely on the films it influenced. Aside from being a great film, it's probably more its influence that keeps it in the cinematic genius category. Same problem as many of the greats though - it's not original anymore so has lost a lot of its original impact. You kinda need to see it in context but if you're not a film geek it really makes no difference - if ya don't like it ya don't like it :)

You're just wrong =D

BB: I'm a big fan of Argento but I've never watched Inferno. Have heard it's impenetrable even by Argento standards (quite possibly a good thing in my book) but also a bit shit by Argento standards (unlikely to be a good thing in my book). Am a fan though so will get around to it at some point :)

I've seen a few of his films Shambles as mentioned previously. The only one I liked so far is The Pianist.

Plus you seem to be now telling why a completely different film from the one I was talking about is a classic. Or am I missing the point? :D

Shambles - Inferno - Get around to it now!
Hmm, I'm not sure if shit is the right term. All his films between Deep Red and Opera have there fans/detractors.
I have a thing against Deep Red because the dvd I got sent from lovefilm 18 months ago was the most horrendous transfer ever...worse than a vhs copy from 1988!One day I will watch a good transfer of it.
Watched Suspiria for the 3rd time a few weeks ago and still can't get the soundtrack out of my head.Every time I watch it I also am unsure as to whether I like it or not.
I did like Tenebrae the one time I watched it.
Phenomena annoys me because the score is totally inappropriate.Would have been much better with a Goblin soundtrack, but apart from that its probably my favourite.....fucking helper monkeys eh!

HOT FUZZ SUCKS I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THAT MOVIE NO WAY

This was very interesting to. Its amazing to see how brainwashed and scared the North Korean people are of Kim Jong. Its pretty fucked up.

Spadey: Oops! Makes up for "Rosemary's Babies" though :D

Repulsion is one of his other truly great horror films - you may like it even if you don't like Rosemary's Baby cos it's damn fine :)

BB: That Suspiria soundtrack is just gobsmackingly good, eh? Absolutely perfect and way more scary than the film ever was. I was once lucky enugh to watch a pristine print on the big screen at a film festival (also saw Cronenberg's Rabid, the original Dawn of the Dead and Crackdog that night, amongst others :)) and the soundtrack ratcheted up to whole new levels of headmashing insanity 8(8o<3

Also, Opera is probably my favourite Argento fillum. Not his best by a long way but was the first I saw of his and was just jaw-dropped at the camerawork. That last shot - the eye-pecking scene - is still one of the single most incredible pieces of cinematography I've ever seen. Comes in (at least) two versions two - extended Director's Cut at just over 100 minutes (re-edited, new scenes but with gore trimmed) and standard version with less plot and way more gore (depending on which country has been snipping at it). Worth getting both if you're real Argentophile :)
