Recommend another good movie per post

The sequel has probably ruined any chance of me enjoying it, it's made me want to hate it.

Death sentence is really well made though by James Wan who made Saw.I've never seen Death Wish part I - MCMXVII etc but they all looked like a heap of refried shite with OAP Bronson killing the world with zero effort.:!
I enjoyed Death Sentence and thats all that matters.Wouldn't want to watch it again though. As a fan of cinematic technique I was impressed with the car park shoot out/chase.

Despite me watching the film for the first time I felt like I'd seen it a million times before, one of these story lines which has been done to death.

I think I remember thinking it was going to be cheesy as fuck, but it eventually picked the pace up a bit and got action packed. I then must've jizzed my pants in excitement but my memory is a lil hazy.

I posted this in Film & Television, & as usual it got shunned into total obscurity by the elitists over that side of the board. They would rather talk about South Park or Dragonball than a decent movie :\ :)

/feeling huffy today :(

From IMDB:

Now this is a film I thoroughly enjoyed. Intense & strangely exciting is the feelings I had throughout it. From the quiet lulls to the crazy action, I was quite mesmerized by it all.

Jeremy Renner, who plays Staff Sergeant William James, was brilliant as the new leader of the squad, with his carefree & dangerous approach to disarming bombs. Mental case.

Just watched the trailer Cletus, dunno about that, looks a bit naff. I would have thought they'd have loved that sorta film over in F&T, seems right up their street to me.

Most of the folk there wouldn't know a decent film if it kicked them in the baws.

Infernal Affairs!

I watched this last night and thought it was fucking brilliant... really masterful plot, and not constant over the top violence like Hard Boiled (although I love that kinda stuff :D), instead it keeps you guessing and is just incredibly slick. I've never seen The Departed, but it was apparently a remake of Infernal Affairs, which made me not want to watch it first... hmm, I guess the subtitles do move quite fast, it's one of those flicks you can see why people might wana remake it, but seriously this is worth checking out.

I remember Peter Bradshaw reppin' it up a few years back when it was released; just looked up the review now n he calls it "a gripping thriller with grandstanding drama, muscle-clenching suspense and two great action leads in Tony Leung and Andy Lau" which is kinda bang on! Really want to see the sequels now! :D

Haven't seen the Departed and cannot see the point.I've seen Infernal Affairs and its great, although the 2 men who are like brothers but on opposite sides seems to be the plot to at least 80% of all Hong Kong films of the last 20 years.Got Infernal Affairs 2 somewhere but haven't watched it yet. Then there's the 3rd one.
Supposedly The Departed takes aspects of all 3 and condenses it into one 3 hour epic.Would be ok but I can't stand Matt fucking Damons face, hence why I've never watched any of the Bourne films:XAlso remaking things for an American audience just because they are too inbred/backward/can't fucking read makes me want to kill people.Although since Martin Scorsese made it then it has to be good.

LOL. :D

Aye it's silly that they remake films when the original was perfectly good just not in English.

The Departed I enjoyed, I haven't seen Internal Affairs though.

There's loads of films I'd like to see on this weekend, none of them big releases.

The Bourne films were absolute gash.

When you said that you value the ratings that people give on lovefilm as how you might choose what to watch, did this include foreign films?
I find that so many people on lovefilm are thick as pig shit eg will say "if I wanted to read a book I would have done that instead of watching this horrible French film".For instance I seem to remember that THE LIVES OF OTHERS and TELL NO ONE got some one star reviews because some brain fucked cunt didn't find out before that they weren't in English and so couldn't handle more than 5 minutes of subtitles:X.

I would like to know why the makers of stuff like REC and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN let their films get remade asap into US wank? They must have been bought new houses with a lakeside view or something, cos thats the only thing that would get me to sell out if I was responsible for creating a really good piece of work that cocksucking Hollywood wanted to remake.

I've found that most of the folk who rated the foreign films are the types who like that sort of thing, I have seen the odd review where folk have given it a low score because it's not in English and they had to read subtitles. Have seen the exact same remark "if I wanted to read a book..." not just on lovefilm but from TheKid on here. :\

Tell No One is an excellent film, haven't seen The Lives Of Others yet but it's on my list, think that was actually where I read the afore mentioned reading a book quote.

I'd imagine they let them get remade for the $$$. I know some state that if their film is to be remade the storyline must remain exactly the same, Funny Games for example.

REC and Let the Right One In are both great too. :)

Have you seen either version of INSOMNIA?
I've got the US remake on vhs somewhere and its quite good, but everyone thats seen the original scandinavian version say its much darker and thus better.
I would like to know if there is a remake out there that is actually better than the original.I know lots of people would say that about SCARFACE,although that is really a total reimagining than a remake.

I haven't seen it no, I'll go add it to my lovefilm list. Didn't know Scarface was a remake.

EDIT: What do you know it was already on my rental list, I'll make it high priority I think.

Which film are you refering to?INSOMNIA?If so then get the one with Stellan Skarsgaard not Al Pacino.Although perhaps you could get both and then compare and contrast. The US remake is made by Christopher Nolan - MEMENTO/THE DARK KNIGHT etc so it is good.
SCARFACE has the same sort of plot eg some guy makes it big then it all turns to shit, but its all bigged up in the remake/reimagining.

Just remembered this
Timecode.jpg

Its amazing.4 way split screen, which sounds unwatchable and no doubt to brain fucked cunts it is,but the sound swaps between each one depending on which image you are supposed to contrast on.
I think its Mike Figgis' best film.:)
