reason for using hard drugs?

for me it isnt complicated. the only hard drugs i use are opiates (never tried coke/meth and many stimulants and never will) and use them very very very sparingly.... i have taken almost a year long break from them before but i usually endulge once every 2 months..... i am a college student and have a pretty good life now.... why do i choose to use vikes/percs/oc's every so often?

one reason.....

because it FEELS GOOD.

there is absolutly no other reason why i use opiates

God I'm an idiot. I replied without actually thinking about my behavior at all. I would say that every drug I use, except strong hallucinogens, serves to help me with shit I can't handle.

Thats why I smoke weed so much more during school, and take adderall and dexidrine and benzos and booze and ambien and shit, then during summer I would just be sooo happy, not using any drugs at all.

Unless I have to work at a job I hate (and Ive worked many jobs and hated all of them). Then I take more and more drugs.

And maybe the psychedelics are for my general inability to handle life at all- Although after a trip I dominate life for a few weeks/a month.

I totally believe this though. While I use drugs to cope with shit, some people just love the pleasure. My friend jeff is like this.

It's like how some people drive hummers because they are insecure and need to prove they're a man, but a small minority is just rich and loves a fun car.

Let me ask a question.....

Do any drug ab(users) here not enjoy the feeling of what they take?? I mean, what a pointless statement if you think about it. "I take drugs cause they just plain and simple feel good!" Of course you feel good on drugs, but that doesn't explain why someone starts it. What, you've never felt good before drugs?

It just boils down to users using drugs to escape from something in their life. I believe that users who just say, "I use drugs cause they feel good" are not in tune with their underlying issues and just haven't realized the root issue to their drug use. (hope that made some sense.)

drug use has a lifecycle within a person's lifetime. some people are exposed to drugs only briefly (or not at all), and the lifecycle is very short. there are others (primarily creative) who are exposed to drugs for longer periods of time, and often much harder drugs.

to make a blanket statement about drug use, and what it says about the user's state of mind is not only short sighted, but also just plain ridiculous.

we are all in different places in our lives, and what's true for one might be true for many, but never for all. drugs have played various rolls in my life. when i was a radio dj, i did drugs with rock stars and had a blast. when i was in school i did drugs and painted and did art and sometimes had a blast and other times it was dark and scary. my point is that drugs play different rolls in peoples lives. while i think i sometimes use drugs to quiet some of the voices in my head, and help me focus, there are others who use drugs to help them get out of bed.

do you see where i'm going with this? to generalize is pointless, and this entire thread should probably be moved into Drug Culture as it has nothing to do with recreational drugs themselves.

instead of looking outside of yourself and seeing those aspects of yourself that you are unwilling to acknowledge, every time you say "other people" or "they", use the word "I". when you are through dealing with your own issues, and you are at one with spirit and the universe, then you might be able to make some educated guesses about what's going on with other people, and help them with their issues. until then (and nobody here is there), maybe just focus on yourself and say "when i do drugs, I am covering stuff up. but, i don't like to admit it to myself at the time, so what I do is point it out in other people, because then it helps me learn a little something about myself" or something to that effect.

good luck.

^^^ because they are what it takes to get me where I want to be. Kind of therapeutic in a morbid sort of way

I use DRUGS because they are the most effective tool I've yet discovered to empower me to achieve what I want to achieve.
I am a person with very simple motivations; My sole ambition is to maximize MY PLEASURE; Luckily for the rest of humanity, I have developed a very powerful SUPER-EGO (desire to abide by the "morals" ingrained in me), and the principal "moral" which guides my life is that I should do everything within my power to alter reality to maximize the HAPPINESS of all mankind (I don't know why I should care, but apparently I was punished enough as a child that I feel DISPLEASURE whenever I see another person suffer). Also, unfortunately I was given the gift (curse?) of having enough intelligence to constantly SEE (in my mind's eye) extremely complex methods in which I can benefit (or at least improve the probability of my actions benefitting) humanity in some way.

Thus, to grossly over-simplify my "Master-Plan" for "improving" the world (albiet according to my own definition):
Step #1 = Gain as much control of reality ("power") as possible, by LEARNING (a trade, about life, about myself, about love, about humanity, about reality, and logic), ADVANCING MY CAREER, SAVING ASSETS (building equity), MAKING FRIENDS AND ALLIES, BUILDING A GOOD REPUTATION, CREATING TOOLS, and IMPROVING MY EFFICIENCY
Step #2 = Use my control to achieve my goals (improving the world) by TEACHING WHAT I HAVE LEARNED, HELPING OTHERS (especially allies), SUPPORTING WORTHY CAUSES, DOING GOOD DEEDS, CALLING UPON SUPPORTERS FOR ASSISTANCE, BUILDING TOOLS TO IMPROVE THE WORLD THAT WILL LONG OUTLIVE MY HUMAN BODY. All of these tasks will be much more effective thanks to the CREDIBILITY and EFFICIENCY which I had spent a lifetime working upon.

Of course, due to the fact that we never can know when we're going to die, and that I feel it would be a shame to have "wasted" all of my efforts (labor) towards building control, I've decided that my optimal approach is to devote a percentage of my time (time = money = influence) towards gaining more power, and the rest of my time towards USING that power... Obviously a newborn will not be expending any effort towards changing reality, while it is illogical for a person on their deathbed to be LEARNING something, or IMPROVING their SKILL at some task... If everybody knew the exact day that they would die, it would be optimal to spend the first half of their lives developing skills, and the second half of their life USING those skills, however since we all can die at any moment, the percentage split will begin with 100%/0% at birth, and gradually change as appropriate until it reaches 0%/100% at some point before I expect to die. Personally I am guesstimating my life-expectancy to be around 75 years, and so accordingly, I'm spending about 70% of my time honing my skills and 30% of my time using them to benefit society.

Taking into consideration stuff like the time-value of money, and the interesting distribution of death rates versus age, the optimal solution is not quite linear (I had a math-expert explain this for me once), it is a wize strategy to work your ass off, but still take some time to enjoy life, and make other people happy whenever you have the opportunity.

So... to put up with all of the bullshit that living and working my ass off in today's fucked up world entails...
I use drugs to enhance my compatibility with reality, for some god-forsaken reason I (and the rest of humanity) am not PERFECT, yet the world PUNISHES imperfection, and REWARDS perfection. As it is my highest ambition in life to achieve enough POWER to make a difference in the world, I must do everything within my power to maximize my probability of achieving POWER... This involves WORKING MY ASS OFF and NEVER WASTING A MOMENT OF MY LIFE...

I don't have the ability to WAKE UP AT THE SAME TIME EVERY DAY (fucking bipolar disorder and sleep disorders), BE MOTIVATED TO PREPARE FOR WORK, FACE THE DAY, and DRIVE TO WORK and ACT PERKY every day, so I take METHAMPHETAMINE when I wake up.

Methamphetamine is also the ONLY WAY I KNOW OF to sit in 1 place 8-10 hours a day, 250 days a year, doing thousands of mindless, thankless, boring, irrational tasks just to make a group of people I hate a little wealthier, just because I need MONEY to pay my rent/tuition. (is it ADD or is life just lame?)

Methamphetamine is the ONLY way I know of to motivate myself to answer long lists of trivial accounting, sociology and business law questions, just to get a certificate from an institution which will make me more employable.

I don't have time to sit at my desk thinking about how bad my back and arms ache, so I use OPIOIDS...

I don't have time to dwell upon how badly my head aches, and I don't have time to pay some part of the "entertainment industry" to entertain me with some unoriginal crap, so I smoke MARIJUANA.

I don't have time to lie awake in bed worrying about everything wrong with my life and the world, so I take BENZOS...

I don't have time to be as social as I would like to all of the people that I love every day (sad as that sounds), and most of them 100s of miles away anyways, so we all meet up once every other month and have MDMA (or methylone or MBDB) so I can CRAM as much happiness and sociability and "bonding" into 6 hours as humanly possible - to fulfill this HUMAN NEED for HUMAN CONTACT, so I don't lose the ability to function due to misery.

I don't have time to sit around fantasizing about death, wishing for suicide, praying (?) for NOTHINGNESS (NULL), so I sniff Ketamine, inhale nitrous, or smoke 5-meo-DMT.

I don't have time to sit around and philosiphize all day, so every other month, I take some ACID, 2C* or MUSHROOMS to think about why all this bullshit is worthwhile.

To sum it all up, I use drugs to put up with my fucked-up job, my fucked up commute, fucked up people, fucked up politics, fucked up society, and all of human pain and suffering (mental, physical, psychological, spiritual).

"there are others (primarily creative) who are exposed to drugs for longer periods of time, and often much harder drugs."

What the hell are you talking about, and are you referring to me?

Musicians and the artsy-fartsy types (not offense, just felt like using that term from days passed).

lol. it took me a few seconds to put together why in the world you would think that i was referring to you in that post. then i put it together and laughed first at your joke, then again at myself for being such a dumbass. is there a more politically correct term for "creative" than artsy-fartsy? just curious =D

how many of you abuse opiates and benzos to cover up an aspect of your life that you can't face normally? better yet, how common is recreational use of these drugs in normal healthy lives?

I sure do. On an almost daily basis in order to escape reality. My life basically sucks due to events that scarred my mind about seven years ago, and opiate use is the only way that I can numb the pain of the events that happened.

Opiates drug you up. That way you don't sit there dwelling on some stupid shit thats gonna eventually happen and you don't have to feel like shit and feel completely apathetic about everything. Helps anxiety. This way, you can just nod out and kill the day. Sad....

This is not necessarily true, it really depends on the dose of opiates that you take. One can certainly benefit from the anxiety killing and anti-depressant effects of opiates without becoming completely apathetic, nodding out, and "killing the day." They can certainly work for some...

Personally I don't find that much euphoria in heroin, as opposed to coke. Way less euphoria. But you do feel content and anxiety goes away.

^^^ Wow thats the first I've ever heard someone say that. I suppose since heroin is a more sedative opiate in comparison to something like oxycodone, which people often find more euphoric and stimulating.

Whenever I take opiates I do become completely apathetic (a big reason why I think alot of people abuse opiates) towards everything, regardless of current situations. Let's face it, its nice to not have to care about life and opiates help you get to that mind set in a big way. This is of course in addition to the euphoria and contentment they give.

First off i would like to say that the term "hard drug" is a stereotypical term manifested by law enforcement (Drug Enforcement Agency, police, etc), and utilized by schools, TV and programs such as DARE in order to scare the public which they think will deter their use. The term "hard drugs" is so subjective that everyone can have an opinion about it (and rightfully so). Think of "hard drugs" as a drug, in which any mention, or thought of makes you cringe and utter, "I would NEVER do that drug, thats insane"! Yep, a huge divide, if one doesn't like the method(s) of intake of the drug that may be enough. Another possibility is that feeling arises due to the supposed 'horrid effects and side effects of the drug'.

Intro to next section--I was born in Petersburg, VA:

Lets take ME for an example. I lived in Germany for 12 years (2 six year splits) and I LOVED weed. Over there hash is considered the crap shit you get if you can't some really good bud. So, with 'Afgan weed' being my favorite, as it is super concentrated and almost like play-doe, me and friends would smoke up, and laugh until we thought we thought we were going to hyperventilate. Just having a blast to no ones imagination ( I even stopped drinking in lieu of toking because it was so much better. Mind you I was 16 at the time, and not drinking beer in Germany is a big think....ahhh how i miss Eichbaum ). Then I came back here for Undergrad. Ah yes, smoked for a few months hoping to get the BOMB like I'm used to ( id been smoking the USA domestic weed for about a year, ininspightf my hatred of it). The only feelings i got from even the so called "bomb shit", and "hash" (which ala lotf people prise here) was paranoia, fast heart beat, lethargy, clumsiness, and not only sleeping, but wishing i was sleeping so this high could end. That was my story as I consider Cannabis Sativa as its provided in this country as MY 'hard drug'.

To continue the story, after doing a few bobodybuildinghows with GREAT placings ( as I used sysyntheticormones, as all others do) I was trtrainingith this one guy, and I said, "God I miss going out, but I cant drink so whats the point. It was at that time I was introduced to the wonderful world of opiates. Soon after winning my nenexthow I was popping opiates like it was the end of the world.

Hehehe...Heres how thinks get bad. I started going out with a frfriendf mine who had been a coke dealer and thought nothing of it. One night he sold some coke 2oz to this rich bitch who went to AU (Since somewhere araround75-80 of the students' daddies are either D.C. popoliticiansr connected to them in someway, which is usually law ). The fact that she went to AU implies that she's as fucking stupid as a 2x4, yet has daddy take care of the 20k tuition, AND test scores, and as ivi'veeen 'F's that were not "supposed to be"...lol. So any-who, it was that night i tried yeyo for the first time. At first i laughed and said to my partner, "This sucks ass for really any price. I feel similar effects to ephedrine", which I took on a regular before workouts. That boys and girls was the bebeginningf my total addictive personality (It must me noted that since childhood i have always had an 'extreme' personality, in which i took everything to the extreme whether it be sports, school and grades, sex, and then drugs). I was didisappointedith coke, but i kept doing lines that because i thought what the fuck, it sucks but at least I'm doing something. After a few months I LOVED it and was doing it not at a greater frequency, but with more euphoria. Now i typically do it 3 times a a week, sometimes more at LEAST a 'Ball" each time, and at that time I was at my lowest and still thought i would NEVER do such 'hard drugs" such as heroin, etc....mind you I used steroids so needles want a problem. I had done 100's if not close to a 1000 e pills, and along with countless weed, painkillers, TONS of benzos, but no LSD, PCP, or heroin. Then a friend/co-worker of mine had a hookup and he gave me a g of some apparently really pure H to pass on to my peeps, customers, whatever. I tried it by snorting and found it just made keep wanting to nod off, aalthoughit did have the characteristic itching that i love so much, I hated it. I ended up doing that for a few more times and still hated it every time. (Laugh's), Yeh this a drug i used to think was 'hard core' and id NEVER try, I tried. I still have never gone I.V. and NEVER plan to, but hey you never know how you end up/ turn out.

I would like to list the drugs I have done or do use on a regular.

Man, many forms of THC, Heroin, all pharm/synth opiates, 5 diff benzos, cocaine, crack :(, ecstacy, GHB/GBL, steroids, Ketamine, amphetamine, deoxyamphetatime, methamphetamine, shit i cant remember the rest of thes names right now as the yeyo has me in a brain freeze.

Right now I use synth. opiates, benzo's, aalcohol and now my current fav, cocaine.

Hope this helps some people, as I'm trying to show how subjective and worthless in terms of arguing this topic can be. This is just the TIP of the ice berg.

The only other thing that I'd like to add is, along while back used to think everything besides alcohol and weed was a 'hardcore' drug, for the junkies and like. Today I love and embrace drugs, all those that i have taken and abused. Today do I have a sense of 'hard-drugs' that still sits in the back of my brain, not allowing me to try to try those drugs? Of course, as in the case of I.Ving any drug, or true pshychadelics as I dont I have heard many bad trips, and such (but you see, this is second or third hand info. Who know's, maybe if I try it and overcome my hallucinagenic fear, I will grow to enjoy it?).

Just a little something about me. I LOVE drugs. I love the bio/organic chem involved with the pharmacokinetics, of the drug. I love the feeling of the drug. Everyone has there OWN PERSONAL reason for using drugs and for using the drugs that they use. Despight doing all the 'hard drugs' I have done I managed to get my degree in Physiology/neurobilogy, a second degree in information systems management, and currently working a masters in sports nutrition.

Bottom line.....Dont try to argue such a subjective subject, OR belittle those who you say fit into that narrow realm you've built.
