Not so much contributing as you are trying to get an easy rise out of people,are ya? Douche. Anyways,I defy anyone to watch the movie The Cure and not cry. I worked at a video store and would tell people that if they watched it and didn't cry,I would give them a free rental. I never gave one free rental. That movie is so heartbreaking.

Is that the movie where the one kid convinces the other kid that eating microwaved Butterfinger bars will cure him?

i also personally find the very end of donnie darko to be one of the saddest things ever, but in a weird sort of sad way, not totally balls to the walls depressing like requiem or fireflies... that ending music choice was probably the most inspired image/sound combos i've ever seen.

just for me, the lord of the rings movies make me feel fucking awful. its only through personal association and love lost, but it kind of sucks that a girl ruined a perfectly good film trilogy for me. c'est la vie, huh?

Leaving las vegas, I was doing a component in my english course tragedy over the ages and it ran out towards the end of the 19th century. The seminar discussed the demise of aristotlian concept of tragedy, there were just no dramas of good men, confounded by a fatal mixture of indemic flaw and circumstance, apparently.

I put forward the film and the seminar leader decided 'ah actually I will agree on that one.' It has reversal of fortune (classic greek-peripetia), moment of realisation (anagnorisis) all the classic features defined in the poetics.

The first scene of him trying to hold it together as his shakes mean he can't sign a cheque, the scene where he has gone into the supermarket having realised it wont work and the last scene breaks my heart everytime.

OK, I think there's a big difference between a SAD movie and a DEPRESSING movie.
Some movies can have a sad ending and yet, in their own way, be uplift. For example, one where a character makes a huge sacrifice for the greater good (ex. Casablanca). Or where someone dies but gains spiritual redemption in the process.
Depressing movies just leave you feeling bad. Leaving Las Vegas and Requim definitely fall into the depressing catergory.

How is Baraka sad? It is, in my opinion, the most uplifting movie i have ever seen.

i obviously can't speak for jamshyd but, while i also find baraka generally uplifting, i can understand how somebody might find it sad.

there's a pretty clear message (to me) that there's so much beauty in this world but so many don't see it and we have the potential to destroy if we continue our rampant consumption unchecked...

The Neverending Story. The Child-Like Empress breaks my heart every time. In a related story, I am a registered sex offender.

All Dogs Go To Heaven. Or anything by Don Bluth in his prime post-Disney phase, especially The Land Before Time. I cannot watch the first 20 minutes of this movie without crying.

Similarly, any cartoon where a wise parental figure dies leaving their child in the lurch, but then later comes back to life as a talking cloud voiced by James Earl Jones.

I honestly think the saddest short movie in the world was the Winnie the Pooh Episode with Cassie. I mean what the fuck, kids arent supposed to watch shit that sad. Its like a kids version of Requiem for a Dream. Its the one where Rabbit finds a baby bird and takes care of it, but in the end Cassie flies away and never comes back... omg + tears and wah hehe haw
