Benzos Re-dosing Xanax... Why.

I've tried plenty of different benzos over the years: Clonazepam, diazepam, lorazepam, etizolam, yadda yadda... They all seemed to have their therapeutic value, but not really much in the way of recreation. Whenever they came around, I could control my use for the most part -- until I discovered alprazolam.

Every other benzo I've tried had some quirky little side-effect that effectively turned me off of it. Xanax, however, seemed like the perfect drug of its class. Just a simple sort of careless euphoria, much like alcohol with none of the nasty physical side-effects. Granted, it's caused its own slew of problems in my life which I will not go into here, but this is why ...

I cannot control my use of it, and heaven knows I've tried... Even the slightest hint of the stuff in my system and my brain just screams "MORE!" My DOC is (was) opiates, and even those never had that kind of demanding insistence that I just keep shoving more and more into my system. No other benzo has this effect either. If I had a thousand bars in my possession, I fear that I would just keep taking them until I was either physically incapable, or ... dead.

I get a script from my psychiatrist every month for it. Not much, just 30 1mg tablets, but I always end up blowing through the entire thing in a day. I've tried everything I can think of to keep myself from doing this short of just giving the bottle to someone else to hold onto, and well ... let's face it, that's not gonna happen. I've "hidden" pills from myself, I've packaged it up in some sort of wrapping and written "NO!" all across it -- Ridiculous, I know, but it never works.

The obvious advice here would be to just avoid Xanax altogether. Truth be told, I can take it or leave it, I don't have this burning desire for the stuff like I do with opiates. But, y'know, when the opportunity arises . . .

I'm more interested in WHY exactly this happens. What is it about Xanax in particular that makes me go through an entire prescription like it's a can of Pringles? I apologize if this sort of thing has been asked before -- and from I've read, it certainly seems like I'm not the only one that has this problem with Xanax -- I'm just very curious. I'd love to find a way to be able to control myself without relying on someone else to do it for me, because I do have plenty of anxiety issues... Social, most particularly. I don't like that I feel I have to use drugs just to interact with other people these days, but ... a lot of times I really don't think I'd be able to otherwise. :|

sadly im some what in that same boat. i get 90 bars a month and as soon as i get the bottle ill take like diuble my dose few extra here and there and i find myself nibbling on the last of a few bars till i can get it refilled. its horrible. i mean fuck im supposed to have like 30 bars left right now and i have 3, there is something about it that just kicks me. im thinking about asking to be switched to kpins and maybe lower the equiv dose down a little, just because idk, 6mgs of kpins a day seems heavy, esp on top of my methadone dose (that is however being tapered atm by me so i can get off the shite, but its still at 100mgs) and considering my doc doesnt know im on the deathadone, ill let it stay that was. all i had to do when i got this new doc was say i ran out of my old xanax rx and he called me in 60 1mg pills no prob, within 2 months i get 6mgs a day. i do have the shittiest health insurance partly bc its state funded, so the only drs that acceept probably have less than average concern about writing rxs bc they dont make shit so why order blood work and tests when they dont see a buck of it. throw some pills at it!

anyways, sorry for the side amble, but yea man, i feel you. i think it just has something to do with the fact that it works really fast and is short acting, just llike heroin you get that quick onset and short duration that make you want to do it over and over again, and when you have a full bottle, its easy to let yourwill power go, esp if you have already dipped into the rx bottle. good luck with it tho man, my sister has had 2 seizures related to benzo abuse, now she was taking like 20mgs a day so thats why.

Well, it actually seems to last a fairly long time for me, at least compared to my usual drugs of choice...

I won't wait for the buzz to go down, it's just like ... no matter how messed up I am, it's never enough.

I've managed to avoid physical dependence to it, I guess cause I can only get it so often, but back when I had a go-to dealer and would take a lot more I'd have some weird symptoms for about a week or so. High level of anxiety and irritability, back-to-back episodes of sleep paralysis, just a general feeling that something wasn't right in my brain, ears ringing, etc... I imagine I was walking a pretty thin line.

Its the rapidness of onset just a pure quality buzz of relief for anyone with anxiety or if u just like benzos lol Like u want to feel like that forever, Xanax is very addictive, I tried it 2 days ago and now I have ordered a bunch, best benzo I've ever tried by far.

yea def one of the "crack" types in that particular type on benzos, id have to add halcion to that list (triazolam) very short acting, was not terrible or anything, but id still take xanax over it anyday. one benzo i think that is super over rated (there are a few) but the one that comes to mind is temazepam, never found it to be that enjoyable but for some reason its huge in the uk. they call them jellys, i guess because there is a type that is a green liquidy pill, kinda like i liquigel i guess.

Theres been a few times where earlier I had taken x number of alprolazam and have woken up not remembering a thing about how I got there. The Alabama State Police found me in my car with blinkers on alongside interestate 86.
I hardly even use my script nowadays. My neighbor eats alot of my "crack"

temazepam in gel form hasnt been available in uk since early nineties from people injecting them and loosing limbs
i have used xanax a few times found them ok but deffo prefer midazaloam esp injectable form also for sum reason xanax is only available by private presciption in uk so not widely available

If you just blast thru it all in one day prolly best not to continue this med. You ask us, why do you do this? My guess is the med lowers inhibitions?

Xanax is one of the fast-acting benzos so that lends it'self to abuse more than the others.

When I take it, I too go into a mode where all I want is more things to put in me. I have great self control with pretty much every other drug, but after taking xanax I want everything I can get my hands on and more. It's probably best you get a different medication if you're so compelled to abuse this particular benzo.

What exactly is private rx? I mean i can read between the lines lol, but does that mean its not covered by the nhs or something? Also has anyone else ever heard that you can get .25mg xanax otc in italy? Forget who said that or where i read that.

right, from what i understand, that means that it's not in the nhs formulary and is not available for prescription if you're using the nhs. the uk also has the option of signing up for [for-fee] private health insurance and xanax may be available in those circumstances, or, if you're paying out of pocket.
