RC users: Why do you do it?

Being a person very interested and active with pharmacology, I love experiencing the different psychological effects produced by different molecular structures, and the thrill of actually being able to design molecules to have a specific effect.
I therefore try as many as possible to learn as much as possible. As much as I love reading about ligand affinities for receptor targets and the effects of said ligands and receptors in scientific papers, there's nothing quite like seeing (sometimes quite literally, in regards to the psychedelic RCs) for yourself.

why not?
I feel like different chemicals are like different flavorings and tatses for different states of mind.
Each produce similar effects yet each have unique porperties that are like different flavorings to our consciousness and senses.

I also enjoy the many aspects of what psychedelics allow me to use.

Those familiar with higher states of consciousness usually consider the "normal" state something akin to permanent stupidity.
Humans aren't intelligent though the potential is there.

Yes, the tryptamine family in particular, can be an eye opening, consciousness expanding, ego shattering, and profound experience. It's natural (DMT and mushies) and the body gladly accepts it into the brain, like they were designed to go together.

You are technically a walking talking DMT container....guess the feds should everyone including themselves, in prison, since DMT and shrooms are quite illegal. ;)

I am afraid to even try and find out where/how/how much $ these RC's are.....I have been extensively versed in LSD, recently started using shrooms about 3 mos. ago, and have had a couple fantastic sessions with smoked salvia 20x. I am also well versed in rolling, coke, and vicodin use, not to mention nice hydro smoke.

I prefer the shroomies and salvia though lsd is fine too but practically impossible to find here......don't like the image or cost associated with coke and it's very superficial and has no "soul" or personality to me. I drink so much less alcohol than before I discovered the psychs, I rarely get "trashed" on alcohol (and no hangovers!) and have come to appreciate the clarity that the psychedelics have given me. Literaly paradigm changing experiences, and I have luckily never experienced a "bad trip".

I'm exploring different chemicals for several reasons, all of which have been mentioned in this thread. Mostly to find the ones most useful for me for different purposes, but also out of curiosity towards the psychedelic experience and the different aspects of it each individual substance reveals.

Being also quite interested in chemistry and pharmacology behind all this, it is very curious to experience personally the huge difference a simple addition of a single carbon to a molecule (for example) can make in subjective effects.

Then there are issues with pricing and availability which sometimes force one to seek alternatives to common psychedelics like mushrooms and LSD.

And at the end of the day, it's great to contribute into the experiental base of data regarding these relatively new and unresearched compounds.

Pff you're also a walking/talking heroin container (endorphins) but I haven't even heard heroin addicts harp on the 'natural' aspects 8). Curiosity to experience psychedelic states is a valid enough reason, why bring this kind of thing into it...

I do it because it is fun, and I like to experience new things. Psychedelics have also been very helpful for my depression and have helped with some other psychological issues.

I enjoy tripping more than anything else, so it can be difficult to control my usage of psychedelics when I have a lot on hand. Anyone who says you can't become addicted to psychedelics is wrong. They aren't physically addictive, but can be psychologically addictive. For a while, my use of those chemicals was out of a psychological addiction to them. I think I have it under control now.

I agree with this sentiment entirely. For all of 2007 and half of 2006 I was using psychedelics entirely too much. Like you, it's perhaps my favorite thing to do. 2008 has brought me the realization that I need to break this cycle in my life, not for health purposes so much as for being able to move on and reach some of my goals.

I certainly will trip again. But it will be when the time is right. Not when I fool myself into believing that the right time is whenever I feel like it.

i do them every few weeks or so...i don't find much meaning in the trip...in fact they're pretty useless, not helping me get ahead or achieve my goals in life...but they're just some nice entertainment once in a while. if only i could convince myself to think of uppers the same way...

My parents started feeding me psychedelics at a really young age, I really had no idea what was going on or that it was weird I think, because I was so young and we'd do it on long hiking/camping trips. I guess it was just sort of natural reading erowid and searching the net for the stuff I read about that I'd start taking RC's unless I had specifically associated psychedelics in general with my parents and wanted to rebel against them or something, but I was on my own pretty early on so that wasn't really possible.

are you telling me your parents fed you....like, mushrooms and lsd? uh, how young were you?

Its best to ignore things like this dimension, I doubt that he is being serious.

I've used RCs because they are more available then the other psychedelics and much cheaper. For the most part they work just as well. I also find discovering the properties of a new substance exciting.

^^ Trying something new always gives me a fantastic sense of excitement. Especially when it's something that hardly anyone has tried, or even perhaps no one.

i agree with xorkoth & euph... it's very exciting. also, in thinking about this earlier today, it feels like every substance is its own "world"... almost its own dimension. it's a new state of mind to explore, to theorize upon, to analyze, to learn from.

i think the best answer for me would be, "because i love to learn."

i like to try something different, and on top of that the quality of street drugs is awful in england, pills contain no mdma, weed is either tainted with some nasty crap or some 3rd rate homegrown at inflated prices and coke is more crap than coke these days. and to be honest other than the ganja which is kind of a permanent thing i tend to do something a few times and move on to something else, guess i get bored easily, also its a good feeling to know its atleast kind of legal :D
