    Welcome Guest!

Rave without ecstasy?

I've gone to every rave sober. I usually prefer to roll at a home setting with a group of friends. E makes me paranoid a lot of the time.

Meh, IMO, there's no point to raves without rolling. The whole rave environment is conducive to being on E, and if I'm not rolling then I'd rather be somewhere with music I like sober. :P

its about the fuckin music not eating drugs, if you dont like the music dont go. rediculous

Go to rave because for the music and not the drug. Don't let the drug control you. The music is just not as intense as you are on the drug but overall is just pure fun

i listen to trance / techno / dance mainly in the car and at home and i dont take drugs but if i go out clubbing or to go a event im taking pills i dont care what anyone thinks sure u can have a good time without them but if u do it right u can have a way better time with them isnt that why we take pills in the first place ?

Ain't taking pills a part of raves? I can go party sober, but E is making raves absolutly awesome...

I listen to trance/electronica/etc etc ALL THE TIME (mostly sober)...when I wake up in the morning, when I'm getting ready to go out, when I'm studying (very good music for studying by the way, at least for me), you name it.. practically the only other genre of music I listen to is old school hiphop.

I've started going to raves since the beginning of this year (I've been to 4 massives) and I haven't been sober. IMO, there is seriously nothing wrong with going to raves sober, I just prefer to go rolling because I've decided to quit dropping at e parties at home, so raves are pretty much the only time I drop now. Like some people have said on here already, it's not really "you have to go to raves fucked up to have fun," but since I LOVE the music and never get tired of it, the culture/scene, and environment SO MUCH...I take e just to take that experience to the next level. I'm sure I would still have fun without dropping at raves and probably won't regret it either. I just still prefer, but maybe I will in the future, who knows :)

And yeah, I believe pills are a part of raves, just not...a 100% "necessary/mandatory" thing, but I guess we are all different :]

"Rave without Ecstasy" (for my friends)

I'm planning on going to a rave (between 5000-10,000 people) in a few months with a group of people, but not too sure exactly who's going yet, since it's still a long ways to go.

Well my question is....let's say I go in a group of about 7 people, and less than half DON'T drop, but just get really drunk (and maybe not even smoke weed) or something...would that be a bad idea? As in, will they be weirded out because most of us will be "fucked up" or will they get kinda tired, unlike us who will be dancing for hours? Also, assuming the people that don't decide to drop, they would never try ecstasy, is for the most part against it, have never been to a rave before, and have never seen anyone rolling before. And would this in any way reduce the "fun" of OUR roll, or get paranoid at times?

Thoughts? Thanks :)

This sounds like a really bad idea to me. First of all, drunk people and rolling people tend not to mix well as they are on completely different pages. If you are on MDMA you'll probably be looking at everything positively and passively, whereas drunk people tend to be belligerent/aggressive/stupid.

Obviously there will be other people drinking at the rave, but they can be avoided by your choice, but if you feel compelled to continue to chill with/check back with your group, it's probably not going to be very enjoyable.

2nd, why you would ever want to be on MDMA around disapproving friends is beyond me...it just sounds like a recipe for tension and a generally unsettled time.

I'd say it's best to not bring the part of the group that wouldn't approve of those who decided to roll. It's going to be a total buzzkill and not the type of people you want to surround yourself with (that night, anyway...not saying they aren't great friends ;))

I mean I love my E as much as the next dude, but I enjoy the scene for what it is without the drugs, and if I didn't I'd probably have a much better time getting wasted at house parties or commercial clubs or wherever.

Me and a close longtime friend used to go to dances/raves and dance our asses off, never took any x until years after I slowed out of that scene....

err i think that's kind of stereotyping people who drink...

if the music is good and the people are "up for it" i behave the same as if i were on mdma. i take mdma probably 30% of the time i go raving/clubbing

in fact about 3-4 times these past 6 months i've had friends who were CERTAIN i was on mdma when i was just a little bit drunk and very in the mood...

people danced and partied long before mdma was brought into the world...

Not something I'd prefer. If I go I'm there for the experience, and to get high, and enjoy the underground different world atmosphere, and roll doin it.

I've only been to a few raves but i usually take my pills after i get inside.. so when i first get there while im waiting for it to hit me.. im honestly pretty bored and wonder sometimes what the point is.. I guess there are some pretty fine chicks walking around half naked, thats always nice =)

Yes.

I rolled two days in a row and then the rave would've been day 3 so I decided to keep my brain healthy I'd just drop three hits.

Obviously, rolls ain't necessary for a rave although I don't think I could go sober. I actually saw people at a rave that were just smoking bud, as well. Can't do that either.

Oh, and boo to all the people that say raves ain't about drugs. It actually just happens that they have all three bases covered: drugs, good beats, and pussy.

Lots of people go to raves to have an excuse to take drugs. It would be impossible for many of my friends to enjoy themselves while not being on E.

Personally, I am heavily involved in the DnB scene in my area, and while I had a nasty habit of taking pills every time I went raving (too often), at some point I realized I could have a fantastic time not being off my head and enjoying the music - but it took me awhile (and a decent amount of 'damage').

Pluses of being at raves and not being high are multiple - you remember clearly everything you do, you can watch the DJ's really perform and analyze their performances, you can walk around looking at all the fucked people sweating hard, feeding off the vibes in the place, and not least of all wake up fine the next day with a decent night's sleep...

I also disagree with the statement that drunks don't get along with pillheads - I often have a wicked time being pissed in a room full of fucked people. Being drunk does not necessarily bring about qualities of stupidity and aggressiveness in everyone.

Has anyone here been been really really high on weed at a rave? I have a party coming up and i would just drink but i wanna mix things up. So my question is, if i bake a nice g or dime into a firecracker is it worth it?

When I go to raves, I like taking ecstasy.

I suppose I could enjoy myself without the drug, but I'd probably rather be somewhere else at that point. People tend to say that drugs are killing "the scene", whatever that means. The drugs have always been an intimate part of the rave experience, and in fact, I would almost say that drugs are the original raison d'etre of the rave scene in the first place. I basically just don't pretend that raves are any more than they are: a massively escapist party with loud music. I think some people have it in their minds that it's some kind of big social movement, which if it was at some point years ago, it's clearly not now. It's just a party -- have fun.

I like to smoke bud when I'm rolling so yeah. I was taking down hits in a cigarette hitter that took forever to pack and hit until I got blazed. But drinking and smoking bud feels like any other weekend at house parties, I'd rather dip into random exotic drugs and whatnot but smoking does keep you in chi with your roll.

I don't believe drugs are 'killing the scene'. I do believe for some people they are intrically part it, but then you don't care about 'the scene', all you want is an excuse to get fucked.

It is indeed a naive and stupid thing to say that the reason raves exist are the drugs involved in them. They perhaps were a catalyst, a natural extension of what was going on then, but music is behind it all - an undying love of music, whatever it may be, that carries these gatherings and parties forward. Not the drugs.

Before I got into DJing a few years back, I often could not tell apart various tunes being played at a rave scene. It's as if they all sounded the same.

Now, I am pretty knowledgeable in that area, and go mainly to raves for the music, to hear the producers play a set, to see Andy C at the top of his game. I rarely take drugs there but am there until the end, because of the music, because of the sound system, because of my friends (high on E or not).

Raves are about the music first - those who organize these events will tell you this. Drugs are there and are part of the scene, but they are NOT and will NEVER be the drive to keep these events going.
