Just wondering if anyone has ever been to a rave without taking anything and remaining totally sober... whilst on ecstasy a rave is perfect but whats it like to be at one without being on it??? Anyone out there know? Is it weird? Does everyone look like freaks!?

I wind up practically sober at parties from time to time and I find it enjoyable though I usually wish I was not sober and dont have as much fun as I feel I otherwise could.

I would hope you could go to a party sober and still have fun.

If you can't enjoy a party without taking pills, you should probably question why you're going in the first place.

I mean I love my E as much as the next dude, but I enjoy the scene for what it is without the drugs, and if I didn't I'd probably have a much better time getting wasted at house parties or commercial clubs or wherever.

Anyway yeah, sorry if that comes across as preachy, I can understand where you're coming from, but it's definately fun even without drugs, at least for me. My first true 'rave' I was sober, and I had fun just dancing/socializing/laughing at all the munted people roaming around.

A sober night every now and then helps you keep in focus what it's all about and not get too caught up in getting fucked up on drugs, it's still fun, in a different way perhaps, but I find I enjoy the sober nights as much as the high ones.

I've probably gone to more raves totally sober than I have pilled up. It's still fun, just in a different way. I love seeing people on pills when I'm not anyway.

i have been to a few w/o pills. one time i went on nothing whatsoever, another i had about 3 lines of coke but most of the time i just have beer and a few lucozade tablets. nothing beats going on pills but the state of them in my area lately its not worth wasting money so i make do and still have a good night

great idea !

i've been to raves without taking anything and it's been awful.
smelly, sweaty, annoying and rude people. life is so much better on pills!

Honestly raves are great with or without E but it only intensifies the music and your surroundings...I could totally have a great time sober at a rave but since I dont have many in my area I usually pop if I go to one.

I went to Ultra and was completely sober the first night. It was still amazing! I actually find that, after going through a phase where I never wanted to be sober at a party, I prefer it now. Not always, but I have definitely gained an appreciation for sobriety, and feeding off the music and vibes rather than depending on drugs. And hey, it's cheaper that way!

Also, even if I go to a party and WANT to roll, if I don't have any/can't find any, I don't spend the whole time searching for it. Such a waste!

I was a raver before I ever took drugs

Rave does not=drugs for everyone

Music is my drug of choice

but yes

I do roll;)

(nowadays I'm mostly sober)

I think I have only gone to one rave intoxicated. I love just dancing all night. I love listening to good music out of a good sound system. I love the visualizations and lasers. I love not having a hang over!

To answer your questions, yes, people look like freaks. lol. It always makes me so sad to see people who have over indulged.

Music should be first and foremost when going to a rave. As others have said, If someone can't enjoy it without the drugs, then maybe they shouldn't be there at all.

In answer to your questions:

1. If the track selection is good, the mixing is tight and the atmosphere is right then it's perfect with or without.
2. Yes
3. Not at all
4. No more than any other munter, but the longer you stay, the messier people become and the worse they look.

Drugs should add to an experience, not make one.

^^^What she said.

The attitude of "I can't enjoy this without drugs" is really not the right one to bring to a rave. You're going to be sending out that vibe and it will fuck things up for the people (especially the more sober ones) that are attending for the music and the atmosphere. It's only weird going to raves sober (unless the party is really wack) if you go into it with the wrong attitude. If you feel uncomfortable in that environment when you're not rolling, then why are you there in the first place?

^^

I agree with the two above.

I sort of see raves like any other type of concert, you are there to enjoy the music. I wouldn't go see my favorite band and be bummed because I wasn't drunk or high, it really shouldn't be any different with raves.

If there is a DJ that you really like why would you have less appreciation for him/her just because you aren't high.

Being sober at a party is a great way to really pay attention to energy, and to draw off the energy in the room.

I've always felt really tripped out without being on anything, simply from the vibes from all the people.

I like to close my eyes and just feel the energy around me on the dance floor, and suck it into my body.

I find I do have far less stamina when I'm not artificially enhanced, so I do spend more time socializing than dancing, which can be a very good thing!

i attended a rave years before i tried ecstasy. it was BORING. i knew everyone was on drugs but i didn't have a clue as to what was really going on.

for the majority of people: rave means drugs. thats' why so many of them are held illegally in warehouses.

i expect many heated replies but let's get real...

^^

Then those type of people shouldn't be attending a rave.

Maybe it was boring for you because you weren't into the type of music that they were playing. Actually I think that it was because you went there with the expectation that everyone was going to be high and you were not. That's simply not true. I know people who will not ever do pills at a rave, they are there simply because they love the music.

I wouldn't say that the majority of people there are because of the drugs.

I hope that you aren't saying that electronic music cannot be appreciated unless you are under the influence of drugs 8)

No people do not look like freaks. And yea sure. Most of the parties we go to we are not on pills. Weed and alcohol maybe. Sometimes just a few beers. A good party is a good party. No matter.
