Rave Annoyances

^^yeah, i hate it when people assume that because the largest show ive been to is like 500 people, im some kind of pussy bitch...I'm sorry, but I like smaller events where I know everyone and dont have to worry about anything going wrong, or if something does, i know people have my back

MASSIVES aren't good, but normal electro concerts are. The more people there are, usually the worse it is.

Bigger doesn't mean better imo; often it's quite the opposite. The most people I like to have is about 1000, the perfect amount being 400-700 that way I know most of the people there but there's still new people to meet.

Psytrance. Every psytrance record in the world should be fired into the sun.

I disagree.

This thread is very funny btw. for someone from europe. Most things that seem to be normal for you would be very ridiculous here (cops, underaged teens, amount of idiots, 'size' of partys/crowd etc. etc.) at most partys.

Wait, you're telling me that in Europe cops completely overlook one of the biggest drug scenes in the world, everyone who goes to raves is 18+, everyone who goes to raves is smart (lol), and the raves are all the same size? This in itself sounds ridiculous...

why do you go to a show if you're just going to sit down in the grass and do nothing? You go to a show to see a live performer and dance. If you don't like dancing and seeing live performers you should stay home where you and your friends can pick every song.

people enjoy concerts in different ways if they arent bothering anyone leave them be. if anything you would be bothering them by jumping all around while fucked up and running into everyone. i have been to concerts where i just chill at a table with friends and drink. just because someone doesnt view a concert the way YOU think they should doesnt make it wrong. thats just being a dickhead.

Partying 8 years mostly in the Psytrancescene that doesn't make a big secret out of drugs I never had a problem with the police. At the big festivals they often just control people after the festival if they drive under the influence of drugs. 'Undercovercops' aren't interested in consumers, so if you don't buy something directly on the floor you can stay calm. Same goes for the clubs here. I also rarely saw a bunch of e.g. 14 yr olds rolling balls, which doesn't mean that there aren't younger people sometimes. But there are pretty rare (also depending on where you party, the psytrancecrowd is usually somewhere at +25 whereas the more popular scenes like minimal/house are more 18+ish)

I don't want to say that everything is perfect here. But either this thread is filled with exaggerations, or you should really come over here.

That reminds me of another difference comparing the picture I get of your 'EDM culture' to the one we have here. Here we have almost no massives (and after the picture that is drawn about them here, I wouldn't visit them) and if there is one you should avoid it if you are interested in partying with smart people.

Get your ticket to Berlin, lots of nice people/clubs/partys waiting for you ;P.

€: In addition I have to say, regarding the cops, it heavily depends on where you are. In the northern part the police is very liberal and as long as they don't bust you selling something or driving a car it isn't a problem. Going down to the south it gets more difficult.

when ever i go to raves which isn't much. most people i ask "hey do you know who that is playing?" at least 85% don't know.

@hans im glück
this thread is indeed funny. i guess i have a similar partying history as you have, so i'll agree with most your points. but i think those "massives" are a bit like if, say, gigi d'agostino, tiësto or some other commercial artist plays at an event (not that i myself would even have been there, but friends have). in that case you'd sometimes also have bouncers, dresscode and other annoyances. that's completely different from the psytrance scene.

with things like bouncers not letting you sit down, 12-yo prostitots, no free drinking water, undercover cops arresting drug users (seriously at the last large festival last summer i was sitting directly beside the main road, where everyone would go from their tents to the main stage, publicly smoking dmt from a test tube pipe, while a guy was waving a big sign "coca leaf" a few metres further down), kandi kids, endless lines at the entrance and non-smoking policies, i guess i'd only to the illegal parties with no police or rules out in the forests if i lived in the u.s. (you do have these over there, do you? [i'm not making fun, just honestly asking]).

Hula Hops, Poi, Glowsticking... all that stuff doesn't bother me as long as there is room for it and they aren't in the middle of a crowded dance floor. While personally don't care for lightshows, I get why people do and don't care as long as they aren't obnoxious about it (like when people just come up and stick lights in your face). As far as sitting down and relaxing goes, I don't see what the big deal is with this. I always see the artists I went to see, but the line-up is never entirely people I want to see. There is plenty of time to hang out in between. Plus, dancing is tiring! You have to stop and rest sometimes.

I have never been to Europe, but yes, as far as I understand it they're culture is far more tolerant for this sort of stuff. Heck, there are parts of the states that are a lot more tolerant than others. I rarely see cops at parties anymore, but I don't go to just any old sketchy show. I only go to 18+ events. I don't really see what's so ridiculous about it. I don't think he meant it in an insulting way. It's just a lot different over there.

Just because something says it's 18+ doesn't mean that 15 year olds can't get in. In fact, I'm pretty positive that there are youngins at almost any event, in any country.

All I'm saying is, even if you don't necessarily notice it, I'm positive all these things happen in Europe too. I am actually from Europe, Göteborg, Sweden to be exact, and I still visit there somewhat often, and I am positive that these things do in fact happen there as well. I also have quite a few friends from Italy, and it's actually worse there with youngins. All I was saying is I don't really think his account was very accurate.

I'd like to see a 15 year old get into webster hall. 18+ is pretty lax, but 19+ is impossible for underaged.

I've never been to a 19+ event but I don't see why they'd be more strict than 21+ events, which underage people can get into.

Unless you have a fake, there is no way they'll let you in. No 15 year old could pass for a 19 year old to a bouncer. Even if you're 15 and have a fake, they'll know and just take it. I've seen bouncers take people's REAL IDs, so yeah, some bouncers are strict.

Yes, some bouncers are strict, but I've met quite a few 15-16 year old girls who can walk right into bars without even being Id'd, I also know a few 27 year olds who have been refused service at a bar because they looked too young. It all depends on the person and the bouncer.

A lot of underage people are let into shows because they know someone important, they are important, or they just have enough money. As I said before, even at an 18+/19+/21+ event, there are bound to be underage people there.

Just because it happens occasionally, doesn't mean it happens often. You'd have to get a fake ID to get in around here, and not too many 15 year olds have fake ID's. They ID everyone at the door of the parties I go to. Personally, I like it that way.
