Rate the song above you: Music that isn't entirely electronic

I thought it was okay, better than I expected it to be at first. 6.5/10

^ That was my favorite Melvins song to get stoned to when I was in high school - I'd play it almost every time I sparked up. It's not my favorite Melvins tune nowadays, but it does hold a special place in my heart, so I'd give it a 9/10 for nostalgia alone. A lot of people say the Melvins were a bunch of Black Sabbath wannabes, but I say fuck that - Tony Iommi would give the rest of his fingers to be able to write riffs as sick and evil as King Buzzo.

1/10. that song is annoying. i'm not part of what has to be the very narrow target audience.

Well at least I know which target audience you ascribe to, haha. Which means your rating of 1/10 is more like 10/10.

MrGrunge's bee song: Well I don't dislike it but it strikes me as being a bit weird without actually being experimental. The instrumental aspect is pretty cool with the horns and bass and other unique instruments. It got pretty good at the end actually but for some reason I don't like the video. I mean the beginning of it is very smart... but it just rubs me the wrong way. I can say that about the whole song actually, really smart but it just rubs me the wrong way. However, I definitely love that ending... worth listening to. 7/10

Couldn't agree more.
Bullhead got me into sludge, when I was a stoner in high school!
I've got the Bootlicker on at the moment.. what are your favourite Melvins albums?

Had an interesting start, and then turned into "soft" djent?
I think it was interesting, the differing time signatures were interesting
The flow of the song must be deliberate, but I'm not sure what they're aiming for.
6.5/10

6/10... Being generous. Too repetitive and emo? for my liking. Don't even know if emo fits.

Anyways...

Kazakhstan National Anthem

Um...I'm not sure if this is a joke or not, but if you're actually interested in my opinion, I guess I'll say it sounds like every other national anthem from a former Soviet state. Not really sure what else you're looking for, so I'm gonna give Abject's song a second opinion.

well, since I don't believe they've ever produced a bad album, I can't say I dislike any Melvins album. My favorites though [in chronological order] are Bullhead (classic Melvins), Houdini (classic Melvins + experience), Prick (Melvins being dumb, glorious idiots), Stoner Witch, The Bootlicker, Electroretard (for the name alone), Nude With Boots, and Freak Puke. Though I typically just put every album into my "Melvins Playlist" and listen to them all at random.

Never heard of this band before. The beginning reminded me a lot of Tortoise (definitely not a bad thing), and the transition to the vocal verse was done quite well. Honestly, the musical arrangement in this song is great - my only problems with the tune lie with the vocals. They just aren't mixed well, which normally isn't a problem for me, but in this case I find them very distracting from an otherwise great tune. On the basis on songwriting alone, I'd give the song 7.5 or 8 outta ten, but the production leaves a lot to be desired. Good energy, good songwriting, bad mixing. Overall I give it a 7/10.

Not my cup of tea although I would probably rate this slightly higher than the Enginize whatever. Although when I went back I felt like I rated that one too high anyways. So I'm going to go back and say Enginize 4/10, Pere Ubo 6/10.

^ Black Metal in general isn't my thing - it had a tendency to sound too samey to me. That said, I liked the vocals (the French do BM vocals pretty well) and the guitar work was okay (riffage was typical BM). But man, those drums sounded awful - it sounded like the drummer was having some issues staying in-time as he was frequently behind the beat (and his fills were pretty lame). I get kind of an amateur vibe from these guys, but then again real black metal was never known for its virtuosity. I'd give it a 5.5/10 - didn't hate it, wasn't impressed by it.

You're the only other person I've ever seen that knew this band... I've heard this song too many times. An obvious 10/10.
However just to comment on it, that rhythm is addictive and the whole feel of the song... the guitar tone and beat is just amazing.

Something a bit easier to digest.

I'm gonna go with 7/10... Hard for me to rate since it isn't something I would usually listen to. It's obvious that they're good musicians... If I was into it or in a different mood I might have rated it higher but 7/10 for now. lol

^ DnB is definitely not a genre I'm very familiar with (plus, this is Non-Electronic Music Discussion), but I do have a couple thoughts on the song. First off, that intro was agonizing - it's a minute-and-a-half long, uses pointless samples, annoying false starts, and it doesn't really transition into the actual music very well. After that though, I suppose the song was enjoyable. It's definite rave music, and has a pretty intense energy, although it's quite repetitive. I feel like I can't even rate music like this because it seems designed solely for whipping people into a frenzy, like you need to be high on molly and covered in glowsticks to really enjoy it - good for partying, but not much else. But, that's just my opinion, and like I said, I'm pretty ignorant of most electronic genres.

Ahleuchatistas are great. I saw them in St. Louis awhile ago and they put on one motherfuck of a performance. Most of the crowd cleared before their set ended so it was just me, a couple friends I was with, and a few scattered drunk people. I typically don't like approaching musicians after a show, but they basically said "if anyone wants hang out with us, we'll be over at that table" so I bought some of their merch, a couple rounds of drinks, and then we talked about video games for awhile, lol. Cool guys.

5/10... This is another hard one for me to rate honestly because I've never really listened to anything like this... I don't even know what this would be considered (not that classification matters THAT much). But IMHO I thought the beginning sucked, about half way in it got better. But overall 5/10.

Sorry not the best sound quality.
