Rapper DMX busted with pit bulls and meth [Updated: 10/8/07 ]

No drugs?

Substance Found in DMX Raid Not Drugs
By Terry Tang, Associated Press
August 29, 2007

PHOENIX - Investigators said a chunky textured substance seized from the bedroom of rapper DMX was not an illegal drug.

"We're still looking at what type of powder that is," Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Tuesday. "But we did seize a useable quantity of marijuana. He does have a drug situation there."

Sheriff's deputies found three dead dogs, guns, ammunition and drug paraphernalia at his Cave Creek residence Friday. Arpaio said officers were working with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to determine whether DMX, whose real name is Earl Simmons, was legally permitted to possess the weapons.

Authorities were looking into how the dogs died. Deputies found 12 other dogs that appeared malnourished. But none looked like they had been used for fighting, Arpaio said.

No charges have been filed against the rapper.

DMX, meanwhile, said through his attorney he was innocent of any wrongdoing and had not been home for "several months." Sheriff Arpaio said neighbors saw him within the past three weeks.

Sheriff's deputies made a series of visits to the rapper's home after an Aug. 7 report of neglected pit bulls. They found a man caring for several dogs during an Aug. 22 visit but he told them he was going on vacation and didn't know who would replace him, according to a search warrant affidavit.

The man, identified as Brad Blackwell, said he had only agreed to take care of the dogs for a couple of days until DMX could find someone else. According to the affidavit, deputies were told that DMX's manager had been sending him money for dog food through Western Union (nyse: WU - news - people ).

The rapper has had previous run-ins with the law. In June 2006, Scottsdale police cited him for carrying a concealed handgun outside a nightclub.

He also served 70 days in jail in 2005 for violating his parole following a 2004 incident in which he posed as an undercover federal agent and crashed his sport utility vehicle through a security gate at Kennedy International Airport.

DMX recorded the 1999 hit single "Party Up (Up in Here)." His last album, "Year of the Dog ... Again," was released last year.

It must have been painful to say that.

Sheriff Arpaio said neighbors saw him within the past three weeks.

Yeah, cause they all look alike, right?

I Done Tole Ya!!! =D

Hell yea, looks like the situation is comin to light a lil more......

PS - If threy are "still determining" if he was allowed to have the guns, most likely he was since if he wasnt, they woulda already said "And we found a shit ton of illegal unregistered weapons too! Ooooh! got him!" They woulda already made a big fuss about it so..... Dear arpaio: Eat it bitch!

laceyk, hella props for your posts here. The fact that it seemed he was probably guilty of the charges (based on past history, the scenario presented, etc), but your sticking to what we hold dear - 'innocent until proven guilty' - just got crazy bolstered by arpaio now not knowing what the powder is. Shit, couldn't DMX even sue them for tarnishing his name by saying that it was drugs, if it turned out it wasn't? LOL DMX suing joe arpaio, I'd pay to have that happen!!!

If it was REAL drugs at first and now suddenly it isn't then maybee we now have another Texas style "drywall" switcheroo by ol scandalous Joe?

Well... At least now we have a reason to get rid of him. Hopefully there will now "finally" be a full investigation by the feds into his dept.

Someone with $ NEEDS to sue his ass and knock him down a notch or get him fired once and for all. I've always said that eventually he will fuck with the wrong person and get his shit served up cold. This could be it? hahahaha

I'm ready to do cartwheels. Hell, I will buy one of DMX's CDs if this case leads to his termination.

I'd also pledge to buy several DMX cd's if he'd put the money to a head on legal attack of joe arpaio :)

dunno, it really seems he keeps getting caught with felony level stuff/activities, but I don't see much in the way of any real charges charges. The dude was driving suspended license, with coke/ecstasy/pot/percs, unregistered car, speeding, failure to signal, etc, and just got charged with one little thing (I think it was the suspended license). Stars typically don't get in real trouble, just some pretend trouble.

Lacey K., I wasn't saying DMX is or isn't evil. I simply said that abusing animals is. If he is abusing animals though, then he is an evil prick and I hope he suffers too.

It's kind of ridiculous for you to accuse me of jumping on the bandwagon to lynch DMX when I said nothing about DMX, as you proceed to write up an essay calling me out on it, rofl. I do appreciate the passion in your posts though. ;)

Nah i was talkin to some other fuckhead who kept sayin DMX is a evil piece of shit who should get shot, etc. Not you, i just pointed out that you are right that abusing animals is evil, but that im pretty certain he aint abusing animals. The rest of that post if i remember the one ur talkin about wasnt aimed at you but like i said that other poster of questionable intelligence.

I think animal abuse is evil too. And i still support DMX. Why, becuz I honestly dont believe he did it. Its funny that yall are basically saying "Well the publicity hound, asshole , racist sheriff with a trick up his sleeve says that there was dogfighting, so then it must be true." Cops lie all the time, and Keep in mind: The alleged perp was not home for 2 months before this happened. All it takes is a shitty caretaker and some "Ayo X left the crib for a few months, wanna set somethin up" Etc. and then there you go, add ignorant fools left in control, to a greedy bitch sheriff lookin for attention and applause and then you got this case.

Anyone familiar with dmx's music knows that he is obsessed with dogs and loves them more than people. just listen to pretty much any song by him and he mentions his dogs. This dude fuckin loves his animals, all you ever see is him talk about this. i dont know how to stress it enough to the ones who dont know this, but if you are more than a casual fan of dude you will know this.

like i said in my post before, he got a huge tattoo of his old pit bull that died on his back, hes always sayin he would

All yall are so quick to condemn this dude w/out knowin the full story, lookin at the dudes past in unrelated crimes, and ignoring his well known feelings about his pets.

give a dog a bone, leave that dog alone, let a dog roam, a dog will find his way home
- DMX

DMX has way more talent than anyone gives him credit for. a few whack mtv songs dont mean shit

this dude would NOT dogfight. he'd fight people over dogs.

Just the type of dude to dogfight.....What type of dude, a BLACK one? Becuz that is pretty much what you are saying indirectly, intended or not. Shit like this kills me. Your ignorance is too much for me to even fuckin type out anymore of a response.

He actually doesn't fall into the typical dog fighting stereotype.

DMX was born in Maryland and moved to and grew up in Yonkers*(which is next to NYC).

From what I've read, dogfighting is common in the poor rural south. I'm not sure about the racial demographics, but I'm willing to out and say that whites participate in it as much as blacks, if not more.

*Big up to D-Block =D

Who me? I never said anything about lynching or shooting DMX or these current charges really, and I am certainly not a supporter of Crazy Sheriff Joe.

I simply said DMX is obviously a troublemaker, who has surrounded himself with troublemakers, and that shit comes to bite you in the ass sometimes unjustly.
I didn't say he needed to be shot, I didn't say he was guilty of these charges, I didn't say the court or jury should consider his past records. I said what he obviously is, and that he couldn't blame people for holding his past against him.

If you are an admitted dope addict, and some morphine goes missing from a cabinet at work, don't be surprised if you're the first suspect.

fuck DMX. he's a talentless piece of shit with serious mental and attitude problems.

i don't care about the drug charges, except it shows how much of a fucking dumbass he is for getting busted so many time.

i think he should be killed slowly

dmx and all the other brainless gangsta rappers and plain old thugs are a stain upon our society, creating disposable music that glorifies violence, extreme shallowness & materialism, and blatant idiocy

Drug addiction is no excuse for robbing people, owning assault weapons, or killing people. People who's addictions are so out of control that they do those things deserve to be locked up or killed.
.

Nah, it was this fine fellow i was talkin about.

music I jus dont think he could do that ish to his dogs. he always talksabout how he loves his dogs like his family, got a tattoo of his decessed pit on his back, seen mad pics of him cuddlin his dogs, walkin em, etc.

I thought the same thing about Michael Vick. Unfortunately I was wrong.

Lacey, I know you are a fan of DMX, but at some point, you just may have to come to terms with the idea that maybe he just didn't make a few mistakes, maybe he is simply a bad guy.

I was a big Michael Vick fan. He was one of my favorite athletes to watch. I finally had to realize that despite being a great football player, he isn't too great of a human being.

I'm all for forgiveness, but if you keep doing wrong over and over, eventually you don't get any more chances.

With that being said, DMX is innocent until proven guilty (of this crime), but his track record sort of tells you what kind of guy he is.
