yeah Kd out. i only got diagnosed with anxiety so i dunno why the drs scripted it and its under the PBS too. because im not interested in SSRIS/SNRIs with the exeption of tramadol which i used as an AD for over 4 months (150mg/day) told dr i was taking it as an AD too.
they think the only alternative for anxiety is antipychoticswhich are shit for anxiety.
I used benzos almost daily for 6 months or so & didnt have any probs quitten em. if u dont take crazy doses (especially xanax) and u do a valium taper it isnt that difficult.
tramadol was easy to quit to. only tapered for less than 2 weeks. but i had benzos.
another time without benzos i only used tramadol for a week (150mg/day) & the w/d were was horrible. worse than taking 40mg oxy a day..

here in australia the drs think tramadol is weaker than panadeine forte. it amazes me how stupid alot of drs really are. most ppl here on BL are more informated about pyschoactive substances.

for anyone who didnt know Temazepam is the only benzo the doesnt mess with REM sleep. so its the best benzo for a good nights sleep.
I know this to be definetely true atleast for the commonly used benzos.

someone says temazepam is a powerful hypnotic. it must be just me. but i can take 80mg in the morning if i wanted too & a cupo of coffee or 2 will get rid of any tiredness. & these days i dont use benzos every day. so its not likei have a massive tolerance.

otc sleep aids are more sedating. just dont feel as good

For me Temazepam is much more sedating than any OTC product but I agree that its easy to stay awake on it. I used to need at least 150mg to get to sleep. However I was tolerant to benzodiazepines. Always have been. On benzodiazepine hypnotics I generally just stay awake so that I can stay feeling relaxed for as long as I can and then I'll need to redose so that I can finally get to sleep.

welll obviously 150 temaze is gunna be stronger than otc stuff...
they usually try to guive yha 10mg for sleep. & 75mg promethazine is way stronger

Actually in the U.S. they generally begin with 30mg unless your an elderly patient or sensitive they'll prescribe 15mg. Well maybe some people will start at 15mg and then move up if needed. But I was started on 30mg. And then a couple months later was moved up to 60mg

I know. Resovil or something right.
yeah pitty here in aus they only have crappy 5mg vals & 10mg temaze.
when i take em it sounds like im taking crazy amounts but its only cuz they put such little doses in each tablet.

maybe i should move to xanax or kpins. atleast when ya say that ya only take 1 tablet it doesnt sound as bad. I think valium should come in 20mg tablets.
i mean they have IR 2mg xanax & ER 3mg xanax.

problem is i dont wanna have to take xanax but dr is gunna be more likely to presribe to take one 2mg tablet or one 3mg ER rather than 8 tablets of valium.

Of the benzos that I've tried and I'm a benzo adventurer so I've tried many (around 14 different benzos - so far). And the most sedating in order are listed below.

1. Triazolam
2. Nitrazepam
3. Temazepam
4. Flunitrazepam
5. Phenazepam
6. Midazolam (took it orally)
7. Estazolam
8. Flurazepam
9. Diazepam
10. Alprazolam/Lorazepam

I have yet to try loprazolam, lormetazepam, nimetazepam, and brotizolam. So when I get to try some of these, that list up there is going to change drastically. I can probably guarantee that everything from 5 to 10 will all be eliminated from the list. Brotizolam may take the top spot, as I've heard people say it's like triazolam only harder.

yo!I've had phenazepam. And that shit fucked me up.Caused mad blackouts. And I was getting it as a pure powder. My gf showed me a video she made of me while on phenazepam, and it was horrible!! I was so F'd up,more than I ever was when I was shootin dope.and she also told me the other day, something else I did thatI have no recollection of at all.She said I went on one of those rides at a carnival or whatever, that you stand in,and it just spins around so you;re stuck to the outside.Well,I have never wanted to go on one of these rides.I can do crazyass rollercoasters, but not being able to move while being spun around, and the bottom floor being removed from under your feet type shit. But on phenaz,I apparently went on this ride, and don't even remember.

choosing the right med for severe insomia

i only made a thread just before about antipychotic vs benzos w/d & ppl here rekon benzos wd is worse.
heres my sleeping meds options

temazepam 5 10mg a month
valium 50 5mg pills a 6 weeks
seroquel 200mg every night
zyprexa 5-10mg every night
mirtazepine 25mg/night every night
otc prometazeine (which i found better than doxylamine) 75mg a night.

i need 40mg a valium to feel anything & its really weak but hepls anxiety but not insomnia as much as seroquel

I know that taking 40m/day of valium would cause worse wdthan taking 200mg/day of seroquel but Id only have enough to take the valium a week out of each 6 weeks while id be taking the seroquel every night.

so do u think the wd from 200mg/day of seroquel every day would be worse than taking 40mg of valium a week (only when i get really bad anxiety)???

the mirtazepine isnt very sedative & makes me dream the whole night (which is weird, & i dont really like it) it doesnt pack the punch seroquel does for insomnia but lacks the mild hangover.

or maybe i should just take the prometazine which works like a weaker version of seroquel but i dont think it will be strong enough but its better good for an otc med & it used to work great.

im looking for a practical sleeping aid that isnt gunna cause more trouble than it's worth in the long run. i dont wanna experience rebound insomnia.

Ive got a feeling a drug as strong as seroquel must have some pretty bad insonia. maybe i would be bette off just taking 40mg valium just when i get real bad. I cant build a tolerance to high because id only be getting 5mg 50 pills every 6 weeks.
ive got bascailly a presription for that much seroquel that it would be more than enough to take every night (& if its there to take i'll probably take it) although the valium would run out even if i do end up taking it every night (which i''ll try not too) after a week & than id get a 5 week break.

if theres any other suggestions for sleeping aid please let me know.
Ive tried ambian & its to weird. its the only drug thants causes to to do stuff while i think im asleep & i take more than the reccomended 10mg dose anyway. so im not really interested.

some days i go days without sleeping so before u say dont take sleeping pills at all than u dont understand what its like when it certain situtions it seems like the only possible answer.

so what have ppl tried that hasnt ened up making there condition worse in the long run?

ok i'll stick with either prometh or low dose seroquel (if prometh doesnt get me to sleep like it used too)
i didnt sleep all that well on temaze last night but alot better than usual.
i'll leave the benzos for anxiety. not sleeping
after all i like takin a handful of benzos in the morning. actually helps my anxiety enough to get a little bit of work done around the place

personally i find klonopin to be very helpful for my insomnia. it helps you get to sleep and stay asleep. i also get ativan for a quicker acting benzo to help me fall asleep but the k-pins keep me asleep. basically any benzo is good. the shorter acting it is like xanax, triazolam, and whatever tend to be a bit stronger but after being on them for years ecspecially getting 120 1mg klonopins and 90 1mg ativans a month for 3 years, longer lasting benzos help prevent withdrawal which is a godsent since benzo withdrawal (real withdrawal) is a bitch. but any benzo is good. sorry if im rambling im just feelin like a million bucks lol

Low dose Seroquel (25-100mg) is where it's at for insomnia/sleep!

There are too many side effects associated with anti-psychotics which is why they aren't supposed to be prescribed for something as small as insomnia.

depends...something like 50mg of seroquel has no real DA block to speak of and has extremely low/negligible/near placebo levels of things like dyskenesia/extrapryamidal stuff or NMS..it, and low doeses of the low potency phenothiazines are mostly antihistamines and anticholinergics (in the case of atypicals under patent, really expensive way to go about that effect, but...)

hmm.. all sedatives?
#1 thiopental (count back from 10 "10, 9, 8 *out like a light*)

more seriously, I find these all very effective.
-phenobarbital (leaves you kinda foggy though due its massive half life)
-nitrazepam/mogadon.
-phenazepam is also a really hypnotic benzo.
- the Z drugs work great if you fall asleep before they become weird and not that hypnotic.

Not controlled.
hydroxazine (antihistamine with a 5Ht antagonist activity...is quite good at solving insomnia)
mirtazapine
big dose of pregabalin or gabapentin
and I do find the anti-psychotics great for knocking you out, despite the possible risks. (specifically, seroquel, zyprexa, prochlorperazine and chlorpromazine)..keep the doses low though or the risk of both serious side effects, and ones detracting from sleep (akatisa, nightmares) starts to make them not very good idea's
balcofen and cyclobenzaprine muscle relaxants are kind of good, the combo of relaxing all your muscles and being heavily sedating sets the tone for sleeping well, and they wear off quick enough to avoid any residual effects when you get up.
- getting a proper day/nights worth of activity in with a balance of physical, mental and social time and then going to bed often works.

The only reason people think phenazepam is so sedating is because they commonly overdose on it without even knowing. In therapeutic doses (1 -2 mg) it is an anxiolytic that is similar to bromazepam, but with a slightly stronger sedative action.

At equal anxiolytic doses, diazepam (10 mg) is a stronger sedative than phenazepam (1 mg).

The most powerful sedatives among the benzodiazepines are triazolam, brotizolam, midazolam (IV only; otherwise not as strong as some others), flubromazolam (very close relative of triazolam, may even be more powerful *note: not more potent*).

Although I've only tried 2 of the above (triazolam and midazolam), chemical makeup of the others dictates that these are likely the most sedative hypnotic benzos. In brotizolam's case, reports are common that it is extremely hypnotic and many claim it is even stronger than triazolam.

They are followed by (not in any order) nitrazepam, temazepam, flunitrazepam, lormetazepam, nimetazepam, loprazolam, cinolazepam, and others.

I've measured out my phenazepam and still find it very hypnotic at 1-2mg (moreso then 10-20mg of diazepam)...but as usual, everything can have slightly different effects on people, but I find nitrazepam far more hypnotic then phenazepam or diazepam.
