^ http://www.deredactie.be/cm/vrtnieuws/mediatheek/programmas/terzake/2.19757/2.19758/1.1216083 it gets translated in to English after the first 40 seconds.
This lot also had footage when those journalists got killed right after it happened.

The man presenting this was also killed? :(

See this is when I start to think fuck emotionally detached, stats analysing journalism. News broadcasters should not incite emotion in viewers, but in this case emotion is incited by fact, by evidence, by reality. Journalists should prioritise delivering raw, uncut reality over their fear of incitement tbh.

There's so much difference between 'knowing' and 'feeling' reality.

The news can't set out to incite emotion in the viewer. Good reporting endevours to be entirely impartial and just report facts.

Come now B&W. Have you ever seen a news story about something you know a lot about from personal experience (drugs, maybe) and thought "my, that was impartial, factual reporting without bias"?

Then consider that most news is about things we have no personal experience of. Draw your own conclusions.

As for emotion - the news is a drama. Big, serious headlines = shock, fear, confusion. Tailing off into a lighter story about squirrels at the end, leaving you feeling everything is right in the world. See Chris Morris.

They have been playing some reasonably shocking footage. The trouble is you can't just put propaganda made by one side on your news channel if you want to be reputable. Plus, what's the point? We already want to go in there and help out, but are being blocked by Russia and China - who coincidentally don't really have a free press.

I wouldn't be so hasty to class documentaries such as the ones posted above as 'propaganda'. They're enraging, and deliberately so, but they use cold hard fact as their tool, not hype and hysteria.

It's propaganda because they neglect to put footage of the protesters kicking the shit out of and killing Christians, throwing them out of their homes, and burning down their churches. It makes out that the protesters are just peaceful God lovers who want to vote, when they are just as bad as the government. And when they are the government, as they now are in Egypt, they will probably be worse.

Is that happening in Syria? It looks as though these guys have bigger fish to fry right now. Also the Arab states aren't all the same. Eygpt is different to Libya, Libya is different to Tunisia, Tunisia is different to Syria. Each has had their uprising play out in very different ways, and it looks like the outcomes are going to be more varied still.

Yes it certainly is. They are taking the opportunity of there being a void in government in Homs to ethnically cleanse the Christians there. 90% of Christians have now fled entirely. Of course some of them have left because Homs is now a war torn dump, but many have been chased out by fanatics and protesters who a) see them as in cahoots with the government, and b) hate Christians and see this as their opportunity to make Syria 100% Muslim.

It happened in Iraq too.

Also, do we not have bigger fish to fry? Like Southern Sudan where 4 million people have died so far because of persecution from the North?

Everywhere you look there's an overlooked atrocity. I know I'm wound up about Syria yet I'm oblivious to countless other pickles countless other countries and people are in, as are you, as is probably everyone in the world. There's too many to comprehend, and waay too many to hurt for.

Also too many to donate for.

Yes indeed. I try to go on numbers, and how deserving I feel each group is of my sympathy. That's why women and children being harmed is top of the list, followed by innocents who don't persecute other people.

New louis theroux on autism, bbc2, on now

s'great to hear him being labelled bland by one of the kids =D

the subject matter should hopefully mean Louis drops the snideyness [sp] for once

Are you sure that's how they were caught? The article says it's not been disclosed.

The article directly states that they used those unsafe currencies. If they were capable of cracking Tor then they'd surely be rounding up pedos by the dozen? They are trying to scare people who use certain other sites, which they haven't figured out how to touch yet. I mean the other site is much bigger and would be a much bigger scalp.

Marmz, i'm watching the Louis Theroux documentary. I hope it's as good as most of his other ones. I don't know why he has such artistic license that he makes a living out of a couple of hours of documentaries per year though.
