race to the bottom

I got 6 A's 2 B's and 3 C's GCSE

something then went very wrong cos I got...

D, E & U 'A' level :)

Begged my way through clearing into University of Leeds 'Animal Physiology & Nutrition' Bsc

Retook 1st year (who does that?) and dropped out to become a waitress.

How long have you been a waitress, B&W? Everything I've read about restaurants just makes me feel bad for enjoying a meal out. Mind you, you might be a cocktail waitress.

Haha, me!

Why did you retake?

^ I failed to complete the 3 small compulsory assignments :) Although I did write a blinding essay on The Use of Growth Hormone in pigs. I was just too busy taking ecstasy - this was 1998 after all. Why did you?

I'm not a waitress any more knock, just did that in Leeds and it was for an agency.

I helped a friend out saturday night cos they were short staffed at a turkish restaurant in Bristol and that was an eye opener. Almost all the staff are illegal, Polish and Romanian and they get paid about £4 per hour. Shocking.

interesting, what did you think of it?

I hated the Steiner school at the time. It was a huge culture shock despite lots of prior travel in Europe & hippies for parents. There were aspects I loved but the ones I hated were for more numerous and there was nothing in between. It was a boarding school so everything was intensified.

Hated:
-all the stupid rules, for example having to eat some of everything served at mealtimes (I'm not a picky eater but I hate the principle and fennel makes me ill; I also had to become vegetarian or I would have been forced to eat pork, which goes against my ethics.)
-the other students; most were very spoiled and had learning & social disorders
-more stupid rules; no music listening devices or toys (such as barbies) allowed, except for an hour a week, no internet, phone, or any tv/films ever
-yet more stupid rules; no personal money allowed, other than a small allowance we received on Saturday afternoon and had only hours to spend
-I was forced to spend long weekends with a local family of heavy chain smokers & my parents had to pay for this; our complaints were ignored
-the extreme muddiness of the village
-the slow learning pace and avoidance of scientific learning
-the Alexander method, a crackpot, insanely boring slow-motion cross between cheerleading & meditation that was supposed to bring us to emotional & physical fulfillment, required of course

I was very socially isolated at that age and without the internet I was completely bereft of companionship of any sort. I felt trapped and lonely. Because the students were mostly morons & we had no homework or reading, classes were a total waste of my time and intelligence. Once I learned German I was bored out of my skull.

Loved:
-weird Christian cult group singing in a candlelit cave every morning
-the arts & crafts program was fantastic; I dipped candles, bound books, carved wood, chiseled stone, learned calligraphy, wove baskets, worked leather
-the food, except for fennel; organic and much of it produced by the school's farm
-bicycling to beautiful lakes
-the concrete ping-pong table in the courtyard

I was just a bit of a muppet and thought I could waltz into the exam and it'd be alright. A guy I knew from my original first year was also repeating the year and he was who introduced me to psychedelics so worked out in the end :D

How long did the strippergram thing last knock?

It went badly because I was more interested in doing a good job than taking money from people, but it gave me something to put on my CV.

I was just a bit of a muppet and thought I could waltz into the exam and it'd be alright.

That's why I dropped out of uni. And I could waltz into some exams but not the maths ones. Horrendous memories of nights before exams spent trying to learn a year's worth of material, maths doesn't work that way :| Bleugh.

Undergrad - Occidental College - Economics
MBA- Haas School Of Business (UC-Berkeley)

Thats as much as I will reveal :)

^ You went to Berkeley? I visited the campus when I was in the Bay Area, fucking AMAZING place. Made me feel sorry for myself that I went to London Metropolitan while people actually went there.

I could happily spend my life in one or another form of education. I <3 learning stuff. I have zero interest in exams though. It's all about the enjoyment of learning new things.

This, precisely. I couldn't have said it better. <3

Can you make mephedrone yet lol ?

You don't need a Master's to make mephedrone! A few years of undergrad chem will do.

GCSE's ranged between A* and E (A* Being Religious Education) eventually got into Uni to study English and Psychology (Including neuroscience)... but as I'm cursed in all I do that didn't come into fruition... may finish a degree at some point.
