I cannot seem to pinpoint one party responsible for quotes that exceed all other parties past and present future impossible however Goodreads database is my favorite place to read quotes that has stuck with me the way they link the source material so conveniently with pictures of the source
 
I've been Zappa adjacent my whole life. Have never listened to his music, but I know I respect him. He's just a different flavor of weird from me in a way that has made it hard for me to approach him. One day I'll take a stab at listening to him

He's an incredibly talented musician and guitarist for sure. I've only listened to a bit of his music, but it's almost too experimental for my taste. I'm like damn Frank just write a hook.

Yeah I get that totally...


The thing is he trained formally too be a Classical Composer and went the exact opposite direction. The best I can determine is that he is intentionally avoiding anything close to a hook on purpose. Go figure, right?

This is a composition known as "the black page". It got this name because the sheet music for it is almost devoid of white due to the overly complicated conventions that are needed to covey it. Even the percussion parts are written down, just like classical music.
His first few albums actually had a LOT of hooks...

thanks for this. yeah he's great. I'm going on a deep dive now lolll, he does have some really catchy songs actually. it's taken a while for me to truly appreciate the satire. now that my love and hatred for life are nearly even it's quite nice

It's too chaotic for me..... I want it to go somewhere and then it just keeps going and it doesn't resolve.

I like resolution, though I can understand how some people might like this.

It's the line that gets crossed for me when free jazz gets too free.
