Just a qick question ?
Where do you intend to grow your Seeds ? What with recent events with your fam n whatnot , do you think they may not take 2 kindly 2 the cultavation of Opium on their soil.

Or do you have another plan.
7000 PAPAVER SOMNIFERUM GIGANTEUM will not go unnoticed in the garden.

here be a nice area near by :)

and the white ?

they both be ok to grow around here now ?

I think you may be a tad late this year mate , maybe you could try a few ?
Reallly they should have been planted in May or as late as June.
July is pushing i i think.

so even if i plant it will they come up next season or will they be wasted anyway and i should drink them ?

also was thinking what ifi was to drink half of each at the same time would i feel anything ?

or can u think of another ratio of drinking them?

brimz is right, it's too late. They won't overwinter - they self seed so if you had them one year you'll see them pop up the next, but yours won't have a chance to do that.
Keep them for next year.
Poopy pods are far from harmless, remember what you're dealing with. If you have low tolerance ts possible (easy?) to OD if you make the tea too strong or drink too much.
Search & read read read all about Poppy pod tea - there's lots of threads - thats what BL is here for :)

oh and you won't get different effects from the different seeds - the active ingrediant is the same in all. The strength will vary with the size of the pod heads though, so best to keep them seperate so you can try and dose a bit more accurately.

Yeah starcraft, good plan to get some seeds, but as others said, bit late this year.....

The somniferums are dropping petals all over the place down here now, pods blueing and drying nicely, alll over the place..

Have you had any success finding them up there yet?

Wait till next April/May, yeah May prob better up there, and plant a lot in your "secret" plot...but also just scatter e few round some random verges, roadsides, sunny spots anywhere, they will come u, and they will self seed, they spread fast....

And save all your seeds from best pods....

Good Luck with it mate...

To others who've said about not growing them in your garden, I don't see a problem with this, I have done in the past, and , errrrr, someone, a few years ago plantd a few in one of the plots at our allotments, they come up all over the place down there now on the paths between plots, the bramble patches at the back etc..., beautiful flowers, not illegal, and most people really don't know what an opium poppy lloks like, or is, or even if they do know it's an opium poppy they wouldn't connect them with those grown en masse in Afghanistan, Iran etc.....

They're all over the place!

Balls or tits up you're gonna have to be patient for a decent 2012 summer ;)

Soz mate, but unless you've got zero tolerance (and a bit less), this just ain't gonna be viable. Are you intending to just smoke the raw opium or try and convert it to morphine/diamorphine? We just haven't got the climate to grow potent poppies. So whatever you intend to do, you will need far more than you can practically cultivate just to get one decent crack at it - never mind trying to sustain a habit. You would need a good few hectares and some very difficult to obtain chemicals to achieve that. However, it's still fun to do as an experiment, but it does become an experiment in futility very quickly (believe me, I've done it). Cheers,

It works fine
I have some opiate tolerance but a big fat pod smoothy, while rank, puts me in aright hazey itch state for most of a sunny day...

I've never been entirely convinced by how potent dried poppy pods are. I remember ordering 100 of the "our most potent hens and chicks with added essence of Turkish Goatherders sandals - our customers are raving!!". I'd got zero tolerance and you always read "Only take like 4 at the most or you might overdose and die dude". So I warmed up two into a foul tea and choked it down. Went and got laid down and never felt a fucking thing. Tried 5 the next time, then 10, then 20, eventually I put 40 of the cunts into a big bowl and drank that and still never felt a fucking thing. This hasn't happened just once - I ordered 100 "Turkish Gigs - our customers recommend these!!" and never felt a thing with those either.

ahh the dried ones, no, I've never bothered with them, no.

Fresh ones work. Pods are swelling nice now, even on the plants that looked small, the pods are fattening up.

%)

so let me get my head round this, when theyve flowered the petals drop and the pods start to swell.. is that when ya start scoring them or is there a point when ya know to score like say for instance when you start seeing amber trichs ya chop?

the petals drop, the pods are small and green, at this point the seeds inside will be ripening...

when they are ripe you will see a massive difference in pod size from when the petals first dropped.

Also the green will be more blue/grey

takes maybe 2-3 weeks, they start to look a bit dried too.

I've tried scoring and collecting the tar, but very very hard to do,and poor yield, think it worth it if you got acres.

If you harvesting, try to harvest after a few days with no rain...don't do it on a rainy day after days of it.

is better just to brew or blend them, you not wasting anything then...scoring will never get everything out.....

Hi there guys have done 3 attempts at poppy tea, and really have not succeeded, my brew has always been from fresh pods and has always been an amber colour and not really that bitter which suggests its a weak brew.before I used say 30-40 pods and chopped them all up , removed the seeds and let seep overnight and still no ptency. At first I though maybe I'm not breaking them down enough, or that I'm using maybe too much water or the pods are still not at there best time to harvest. They are difinately Papiver Somniferums I still have some more to go through yet, shame I can't score the heads because they are fresh we will have to see.

didnt yousay that everything is a month later up here in the NE of Scotland so wouldnt tht make a difference from planting them here how ?

Nothing planted now will come up before next year and it'll be the year after that before you've worthwhile plants. An efficient and easy way to sow is to scatter the seeds into melting snow next winter.

Leave them a bit longer before picking, just toss 'em in as they come, Bodder - but scrub off any pesticides - and leave to simmer an hour or two. The closer to dried the better but you should get off fine on 50 green ones.

Are those extraordinarily big pods, Kate, or rather small hands?
