I know it's like a pair o tits innit, lush <3

I've never managed much bigger than golfball size, had a few bigger, but not the size of those ones above, and that with Giganteums. If you scouting about round parks and gardens, golfball sized ones will be a good find.

There's enough thebaine in Papaver bracteatum to make it worthwhile for the US government to grow them for synthesis of oxy and the likes. Sadly it's not a recreational drug at all and pretty darn toxic.

Thebaine is also the synthetic starting point for etorphine & buprenorphine, so overall thebaine containing plants are very economically viable

Erowid has lots of accurate pics and information about this topic.

Good luck to any would-be botanists.

are these any good at all ?

ive seen some new ones coming out but they are not as tall as the others i have seen and have smaller looking heads could they be them finally coming out to play ?

they will be shorter to start with, but once the buds start pushin up they can get taller than orientals.

You're looking for those LIGHT green, SMOOOOTH leaves, that picture shows the leaves quite well, I'll have a look about tomorrow when i'm on me round and I'll take me camera, there are a few pushing up round here now...

It feels wrong , but it has 2 be done.
I recently thinned out mine n couildn't throw em away so transpanted em elsewhere v.
I no they ain't keen on being moved n it sets em back a bit but so far they have been ok.

How many could you realistically grow indoor in a 30cm diameter 30cm height pot? Or is it not really likely that they will grow indoors?

1 small one. At best. Not enough to even dull a bit of pain.

Just get some seeds and chuck am around, they are piece of piss, grow in the shittest of soils, to a point, but will reward you if they are given some good treatment.

Stick to outdoor.

So the other point I would make is this. If you live in the vicinity of a pleasant enough area that thoughtful souls have planted a nice ornamental stand of poppies in the front garden, try to have a little restraint if you can. Walking around will often find a fair number but if they just get raped in one night by greedy opium fans the chance of them being sown there again will drop off quite considerably. (I make the obvious assumption that anyone interested in more than the ornament would make them a bit more difficult to see.)

They will not all be ripe for another thing so it's also wasteful from that angle. If you find a fair number of these user friendly places pick a dozen likely specimens or so from each as you "casually" stroll by. If you spot them in the day in an area less familair be sure to note the house number as street lighting makes all the colours change. (You will be doing this by night I would presume.) If you have a small handful and are confronted by an angry householder you can show that you only have a few of the dead heads for the seeds as it seemed a bit too late to ring the door and ask. (Looking like a real gardener rather than a freak is a good plan but if if you aren't then your bluff is a figleaf at best.) Might work, might not but it beats explaining why you were scything down the lot. Possibly to plod.

Obviously trying to be discreet leaves no chance to scrape the pods in the street so here's the answer for that. Leave a decent stem. Stick them in water for a little while to let the capilliary action get going again and then cut them in the same way as you would if they still stood in the ground. Whie goodness will bubble out and so long as the places you have visited only see the slow disappearance of the dead heads there's a much better chance you have a sustainable supply.

There's always a chance doing it this way that some thoughtless nit will have the rest away in the less subtle manner but that's life I guess.

^^^^ Good tips. Saw my first harvestable heads today. May 22nd, incredible.

Maybe home production is the wave of the future. I'm too old for such shenanigans myself but it'll be interesting to hear how more ambitious posters fare with their projects.

The process is rather labour intensive - even if you're lucky enough to run into a big patch and work like a Trojan, you won't collect more than £30 an hour's worth of opium. Still, rope in the kids and their mates from school, put in a few 60 hour weeks and you're ready for the home baking.

Isn't summer fun?
