question for iraqi/afgani vets - drug use in the military?

opium/heroin/weed was just what we grabbed and stashed during operations. Ditto pharms.

doctors handed out d-amp to line infantry like candy, and now that I'm SF, they hand it out like ammo or a uniform.

SF operations in Africa and S.america have turned up some very friendly pharmacists, and some rarities like methcathinone and methaquaalone.

They hand out amphetamines pretty freely. I haven't been to afghanistan yet but what I hear from my buddies opium is pretty easy to stash during/after operations.

1.Is heroin big with soldiers in the middle east? That is where 95% (maybe exaggeration) is grown and processed.
not really. steroids are abused by deployed soldiers more than anything else. second would be alcohol. hash and opium/heroin can be aquired, but typically the risk is too high to be worth it.

2. Is crystal meth big with solders? it has certaintly made it way across the US and considering where the mojority of soldiers are recuited from...
while deployed? hell no. there's no way you could manufacture or bring any of that shit with you. also, sleep is one of the most valuable resources while in a combat zone. troops not sleeping during downtime is always a sign that something's wrong.

i remember reading articles about heroin openly being sold in the Bazaars of Afghanistan and the easy access of the drug to the soldiers.

not always true, i know aot of troops ho cant sleep during down time, due to shock and anxiety and grief. A tweeker wouldn't look too far out of place.

i've ordered people to go to sick call before. i know i'll do it again in the future too. combat stress is best treated before it becomes combat stress. i'm not sure on just how successful critical incident debriefings are, but i know a lot of agencies that see death (police, emt) require them after traumatic events, so i'd probably require those as well...

but yeah, tweaking would certainly look out of place to a team leader who knows wtf he's looking for and is properly taking care of his troops.

I spent most of my of my 16 years in sf units and dex was fairly common but we were always very careful not to relly on it too much.Steroids were pretty common although a good portion of us were taking it under medical supervision. When I was in the 5th group we did have to boot a guy who was stealing morphine amps.

The first 4 tours i did, the drug usage was minimal....compared to what goes on in the showdy world of SF units. You think when dey send me to S.America to extract a western journalist, I aint gonna take a few blows of the white? and the fuck is gonna notice?

The Regular force and the special force exist as nearly two different entities within Canada. You got, say, a light inf bn..Thats basically the same as an anonymous army inf BN down south. The reserve units here are ditto to the guard/reserve in the USA.

you have JTF-2 which is akin to 1-SOF-D, DEVGRU or UK SAS
and CSOR and CJIRU which is alike to 75th Rangers, Force recon, ect.

my last 4 years have been with JTF-2....I'll slit your mother fucking throat because I was bored. (joking) but we generally get away with anything provided we maintain our standards to a level of perfection expected of a unit of that caliber.

I really dont feel like this belongs in drug culture...Its more about the experiences of ppl servin in the armed forces, not particularly the drugs...Its a good topic, and very interesting and i think it will get more detailed response in SO, so im movin it over there:)

I wouldn't be accepting strange pills or powders from locals in a Country I'm occupying.

I wouldn't either. But I'd take some goop off a poppy head I just slit with my pocket knife.

or stuff from medical supply from friendly forces. Or something we made while at a FOB in buttfuck nowhere, to the point that we can get away with a few hours of chemistry if one packs in prepared for it.

Or something I seized, not took, from a local. i.e. 0330 raid on a heroin camp. chances are if you grab a random batch of the stuff, its the real deal, and not a poison for you.
