not really. steroids are abused by deployed soldiers more than anything else. second would be alcohol. hash and opium/heroin can be aquired, but typically the risk is too high to be worth it.1.Is heroin big with soldiers in the middle east? That is where 95% (maybe exaggeration) is grown and processed.
while deployed? hell no. there's no way you could manufacture or bring any of that shit with you. also, sleep is one of the most valuable resources while in a combat zone. troops not sleeping during downtime is always a sign that something's wrong.2. Is crystal meth big with solders? it has certaintly made it way across the US and considering where the mojority of soldiers are recuited from...
i remember reading articles about heroin openly being sold in the Bazaars of Afghanistan and the easy access of the drug to the soldiers.

not always true, i know aot of troops ho cant sleep during down time, due to shock and anxiety and grief. A tweeker wouldn't look too far out of place.
i've ordered people to go to sick call before. i know i'll do it again in the future too. combat stress is best treated before it becomes combat stress. i'm not sure on just how successful critical incident debriefings are, but i know a lot of agencies that see death (police, emt) require them after traumatic events, so i'd probably require those as well...
but yeah, tweaking would certainly look out of place to a team leader who knows wtf he's looking for and is properly taking care of his troops.
