Punishing idiots

stupid people should not be punished... stupid goverment full of greedy idiots on other hard should be skinned alive and then burned with whole planet watching

Or maybe we could glorify a life of quaint intelligence and diligent hard-work, free of bias and politically/economically driven motives for personal achievement, and abolish network television as a means for the spread of "free" ideas?

I'm hoping the shit is so unpopular in ten years that only the oldest of the old time peoples will pay for it, and if we're lucky the fuckers will be so desperate to save their industry it will cost phenomenal rates, Internet prices will get lower and lower, and the 5 Major News Networks will become a thing of the past.

I'm sick of being pessimistic. I like to think that at some point in my life this could be a reality and these truly dumb people will become a new minority where they're ostracized to a point of either sinking or swimming. They can learn to think for themselves and accept empathic human ideals and policies, or they can die a slow and quiet death.

People don't know what's best for them. :( Maybe they will before I'm dead, but I remain skeptical...

be patient, everyone learn at their own speed, if you care, help them along but dont slow down or stop unless their important. you have to learn, its unavoidable. some people appear not to be, but they will. so punishing them, isnt required, luckily in some cases its unavoidable. but definitely hard to watch, and not get involved. i once heard a quote,

if you are arguing with idiots, from a distance you all look like a bunch of idiots..
punishing would be comparable. imo

not getting it.

just to clear up something. I'm no pacifist. what I am saying is, don't waste your time unless they are your responsibility. and sometimes there are limits there too.
you can learn a lot from everyone if you are dedicated. and if you do your best to focus your energy negative and positive, and learn from everyone, even idiots, you will be on your way.

due to the neurological processes that happen with aging and imprints on one's brain, some people *can't* "catch up" philosophically, intellectually, morally, academically, or otherwise. thus, we have a generation gap.

"We're all bozos on this bus."
I'm with Jamshyd on this. There's way to much idiocy in my own self for me to be worried about anyone else, even if they appear unforgivably ignorant to me.

Simply being critical of other's stupidity isn't cruel in my opinion
you seem to believe that stupidity is people's fault

that's not the case

no more than ugliness
if i find you ugly, can i go around telling that you're ugly without you feeling that it's cruel?
. There's a line to be drawn, and there are many blatantly and willfully ignorant people in the world that simply could care less about bettering themselves for the sake of us or anyone else for that matter. It's selfish, and there's no excuse for it with the amount of information and knowledge we all have at our fingertips via the Internet, public libraries, etc.
there's not "mentally healthy people", "insane people" and "people who are stupid because they are lazy"

there's the whole spectrum from insane to "subjectively healthy"

i see on a daily basis people who can't learn, not because they are lazy, but beacuse they don't have the mental capacities
as some people can't lift weights because their body just won't develop enough muscles

some people may also appear lazy because they mental capacities prevents them from being the quick-witted you think that everyone could be

i advise to open a dictionay and look at the word after "toleragen"

or let me use your own words :

"there are many blatantly and willfully untolerant people in the world that simply could[n't] care less about bettering themselves for the sake of us or anyone else for that matter"

^^
Nice one..

Plus you can learn from them, or how we feel about them. If we aren't them.

depends on context. if i am ugly, and i ask if i am ugly, and want an honest answer, then you shouldn't necessarily feel cruel.

if i am stupid, and we are talking about math, and i say 2+2=5, and i want an honest discussion about the maths... it'd be hard not to imply that i'm stupid. and it'd be useful to express that i'm stupid, for my future use of maths ;)

i didn't mean just telling, but "going around telling". insisting, teasing in front of others, etc.

i agree, a lie is not an answer to a question

I'm not talking about people with low IQ's or mental incapacities.

I'm talking about those who have the means to better themselves but chose not to. I meet these people every single day.

I also know plenty of beautifully empathic people with low IQ's who I consider quantitatively way less ignorant than your average American.

I'm speaking of ignorance, not intelligence.

I'm not speaking in black and white.

Your analogy was shit.

Ugly people can't rightly change their appearance without expensive surgery.

Ignorant people can immerse themselves in books, culture themselves by travelling and being open-minded, cutting down on television and video games, go to school, etc.

Also:

Toleragen
isn't a word.

Don't advise anyone to open a dictionary unless you fully expect them to find the word there. If you were trying to feel intelligent, try again.

:\

tolerogen [tol´er-o-jen]
an antigen used to introduce tolerance, particularly a form of an antigen (usually a soluble form) that induces tolerance, as distinguished from an immunogen, another form (usually an insoluble form) that induces immunity.

How is this relevent?

Is this what you meant?

Back in the day nature used to judge the stupid by removing them off the face of the Earth. My discontent lies not with the stupid people, but with modern civilization for perpetuating their existence lolololololololol

Please take this comment in stride, but seriously, stupid people (which I totally believe exist) aggravate the hell out of me. I'm entitled to my emotional response to their behavior in earnest without feeling guilty aren't I?

Idiots should definitely be held accountable for their actions, as should all people. I find the thread title misleading though. What are we punishing this hypothetical idiot for, his actions or his idiocy? The former I approve of the latter I do not.

Consider it passive eugenics.
