Psytrance clubs....what's that all about then?

Spacehopper were exclusively playing "psychedlic trance techno" in 1994-5 ish, and plenty of people at those parties had been making and going out on that music for years....

It started more like the Harthouse, Hardfloor, Acid trax type sounds, but did get Goa-ey...Sid Shanti played 3rd birthday in 96-7ish, exact years elude me....

Dragonfly Records were going strong in 95-96ish? again not sure on exact years..

But surely SHM, that is psy-trance?

BL was a lot more luvvy and fluffy in 2001. That EADD crowd wanted nothing to do with full-on banging beats.
Same when I joined, although everyone was into 'banging beats', as I could tell from the meet ups I attended. It was all PLUR, and nice people. Now, it's full of meph faces, and people like Roby. ANGRY PEOPLE!!!! :X :! ;)

All the 2001 lot liked hardcore and hardhouse didn't they?

Hardcore was very much liked, yes. Meet ups were at Raindance and stuff.

Post some of this 'full on' psytrance that's so much better than everyone else's please.

I'm not responsible for the name. And I never claimed it was 'better than everyone else's'. I said anything with goa in the title was wank. Which it is.

Man you're mardy. Happy birthday.

The cunts can only afford one sample kit for Reason because they've spent all their dough on enough acid to make the music bearable.

You're probably close there. Making music has never been easier and there lies the gem and the flaw in music production for the masses. It's a funny old thing, but I find most of the best music is made from people with musical ability, or at least a modicum of musical understanding. Crazy I know. But I also find most builders are better if they have a knowledge of what they do instead of just a few bricks, a bag of B&Q quick dry cement and a van.

Everyone with an interest rather than ability has a hacked copy of Reason or FL Studio/Fruity Loops these days. With that stuff, all you need is to be handy with copy and paste. If you have some musical understanding and knowledge, then great, you may produce something special. If not, you're more likely to produce mediocrity - at best. There's nothing wrong with that, but there is when people start to take themselves seriously.

Sure, I'm an old school musician now changing my style and experimenting with new technology, and I probably am a bit of a muso snob, but as such, it's so easy to spot the shit out there. And there is such a lot of the 'same shit - different texture' going off. Far too many people who just use off the shelf grooves, keyboard pads and bass loops etc, without even trying to adapt or create their own. Good fun, but it ain't inventive.

/soapbox

My point is, the above accounts for a lot of the shit out there.

Oh, happy BL birthday SHM ;) Carriage clock anyone?

Most yeah. Shouldn't have used the phrase banging beats your honour.

haha don't worry i think the shitty uk happyesque hardcore and hard house are both awful too :D for 4/4 music i like it hard as fook but i'm mostly a 2/2 junglist mandem.

Not for me but if you say so. Again, I'm not responsible for and couldn't really give a shit for genre nuances.

Yeah , on reflection, Dragonfly etc was a bit "Goa"8) , lol, and as for Sid fuckin Shanti, yeah :p

But isn't this just a genre nuance?

Psy-trance has been round for years, just in and out of different pigeon holes, is there still a Pigeon-Holing MegaThread we can take this to?

And Happy Birthday for yesterday, did your engraved carriage clock turn up? <3

^ Fine example of Tusked Blue Hotpant on a Liminal Squeezebox tip. The more Tipton end of the spectrum if anything.

Psy trance is alive and well in the west, Toadstool play a wicked night 3rd Friday every month in Gloucester. Banging tunes and a friendly crowd.
