Is it normal to have psychosis-bipolar-schizophrenia(what I've been diagnosed with) after long term exposure to Cannabis? There have been period in my life where I have taken in more than I should, and when I say more, I mean hotboxing a car for hours and just hitting the sheesha for a whole day and maybe for a couple of days on. So my question is, has anybody else been diagnosed with such a hard case of psychosis after long/extreme exposure to Cannabis?

If you don't go to a shrink, you won't get that diagnosis. Everybody is a little crazy anyway. Just think how much worse you would be if you didn't use cannabis. Anyway, I wouldn't listen to some doctor. Listen to your body, what's it telling you?

^ Not much good advice there, friend. I'm anti-psychiatry too for the most part, but if the OP is experiencing psychosis to the extent that it's interfering with his everyday life, he is right in seeking professional help.

Psychosis-bipolar-schizophrenia?
Well, psychosis is a non-specific symptom. And bipolar disorder and schizophrenia are usually not found together..
So you've been diagnosed with psychosis-bipolar-schizophrenia?
It sounds to me like you started getting panic attacks from smoking pot, but wanted to be taken seriously by other people so you tell them you've been diagnosed with psychosis-bipolar-schizophrenia.

This sounds a lot like schizoaffective disorder. If this is the case, this should not be taken lightly. Honestly I don't think cannabis causes this disorder, but it sure as hell can bring it to surface (just like most mental disorders).

OP if you have actually been diagnosed with this, take your medications that your doctor has prescribed you and stay away from anything else for a while. At least until you feel 'ok' again.

Damn Huaca no offense but that is a fucking dumb comment that has no value. Basically you're saying that the cancer in my body isn't killing me until a doctor diagnosis it. Or if I'm hearing voices or have detrimental thought patterns it isn't a problem until a psych. points it out. Maybe you should rethink that idea.

Getting back to the real question. The only link between marijuana smokers and schizophrenic patients is that marijuana has been linked to schizophrenia developing earlier in patients and may exacerbate the problem. There has not been any link to marijuana use being the actual cause of schizo. or other mental illnesses.

Basically if you have a predisposition to schizophrenia or currently have it, pot may cause you some problems, so don't use, plain and simple.

I agree.

KingdomCome-keep seeing a shrink or a therapist if you have schizophrenia or get psychotic breaks. If you are prescribed meds and they work keep taking them.

If I were schizophrenic or had a type of bipolar disorder that gave psychotic breaks I would not smoke herb or use other illegal drugs either.

A friend of mine is bipolar but he has a type of it where he does get very very rapid cycling and mood shifts and even psychotic breaks and he does hear voices but he's not schizophrenic.

Low-THC cannabis and nicotine are two drugs which actually alleviate some of the symptoms of schizophrenia for many sufferers. They're mild anti-psychotics/nootropics for these people.

I wouldn't feel ok ever while on antipsychotics, even if I was in fact schizophrenic. Antipsychotics are a big "off" switch for your brain. Especially the older ones like good ol' vitamin H. I'd also consider a lot of the tetracyclic "antidepressants" to be in the antipsychotic class of drugs.

Anyway, I wouldn't listen to some doctor. Listen to your body, what's it telling you?

disregard this. You need both -- and being diagnosed skitzo/bipolar means you will need the assistance of a professional.

Aside from this, cannabis could likely have triggered something, but it being the cause is rather unlikely. My best friend is bipolar and smoking calms him down and brings him back down to earth, and another who simply freaks out when he smokes (over time).

I've got bipolar disorder and can smoke cannabis without ill effect. It didn't used to be this way, but now that I'm on the right meds (light antidepressant, mood stabilizer) everything is Kosher. Just wanted to let everyone know that you *might* be able to return to pot someday if you have bipolar disorder.

Big pharma wants to maintain its monopoly over its patented factory drugs to the exclusion of nonpatentable herbs like cannabis. They are still inventing "diseases" for their latest drugs. Antipsychotic drugs (SSRI crap) will make you crazy, or at least get you addicted. This "modern" medical monopoly administered by AMA and FDA is taking billions of people's dollars to make these same people sick. If you want to be healthy avoid doctors, unless you need to be stitched up or have a broken bone set. Also ignore the fucking food pyramid. Eats lots of fatty meat and eggs and butter. No artificial diet crap. Cut way back on carbs too. I'm pushing 60 and am still strong and healthy, no big belly either.

schizophrenia? corporate monopolies? reptilian shapeshifting conspiracies?

Woah woah, okay, first off, I take back what I said about weed not causing schizophrenia - you guys totally have it

here is something I wrote on schizophrenia and psychosis:

Okay I'll give anyone who cares to read an accurate and more neuro-physical description of Schizophrenia:

The brain demands more of itself than memory/other parts can provide for.

Basically, the schizophrenic thinks too much about irrelevant information (and then upon realizing that it is irrelevant, they refuse to believe that they have spent all that time thinking about something that doesn't matter) - or they are unable to find a solution to a problem of theirs, but they persistently continue digging for a solution (although it might not exist).

Then, this progresses into a downward spiral, and the schizophrenic has sessions of introspection with less and less stimulus from the external world.

At this point, it hasn't yet become schizophrenia - and most of the time, it is usually just an episode of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or just regular anxiety.
This is when it becomes schizophrenia:
The downward spiral of obsessive thoughts progresses so fast, that the dopaminergic neurons in the frontal lobe are working faster than what other parts of the brain can compensate for (mainly the cholinergic pathways).

Essentially, the schizophrenic produces so many thoughts, that their short-term memory simply lacks the physical resources to keep up with it.
With affective flattening (a symptom of schizophrenia), there is a lack of neurochemical resources in the regions of the brain responsible for producing emotion; so any of the schizophrenic's thoughts have no corresponding emotions to accompany them.

In a sense, overanalyzing can literally separate the body from the mind - and this experience is often-times synonymous with "psychosis".

So again, to the original poster, are you sure you aren't just suffering from some type of a dissociative disorder?
Do you mind if I ask what your symptoms are?

Its all in ur head.

cannabis can cloud ur head and make you think like that but once u get over it and man up it goes away.

this is coming from someone whose grandma was a paranoid schizo hardcore.

and blazes much more than i should

Have you done any other drugs such as Uppers like Coke or Amps or Psychs like lsd or reseach chems.

if ur really schizo what anti psychotics do they have u on when were u diagnosed and what dsm criteria level are you on?

Terrible, terrible advice. It is well-established that schizophrenia is more common in long-term cannabis users, whether it is the cause or not. You can't "man up" and "get over" schizophrenia.

That said I'd need more info from the OP to be convinced he has it.

Huaca, I am in agreement with many of the things you write both here and elsewhere. Big Pharma is fucking people over left and right, front and back. Challenging Nature's monopoly by making God-given plants illegal... it makes me sick and offends me as a human.

I was on SSRIs before I went crazy and got myself a strike, but I was also on pot. Not much, though. I was on two different SSRIs and not one cotton-picking mood stabilizer! Pot couldn't touch the fury inside me, nothing could. If I knew back then that I could take an anticholinergic, I would have downed a little diphenhydramine or some Datura (not much mind you) to fuzz me out a bit, because pot wasn't cutting it.

But... Just because it seems doctors and pharmaceutical companies seem to be making up new illnesses does not make them any less real. The problem is that some of us are so conflicted inside our own minds that we need to find enough rest to get things straightened out. Because society grinds us into the dust without a caring thought, some of us need drugs to help us along. The right drugs. Pot, back then, was the wrong drug at the time.

Sadly enough, I'm on pharmaceutical drugs to help me maintain a balance. The government pays the bill, which means the taxpayers are really the ones footing it. I hate to give the pharm companies anything, but these days there aren't many options.

We need a society that seeks to explore natural remedies for modern maladies, one in which all natural plants and plant extracts are made legal to process, possess and consume. Our research should go towards using what we already have to better our lives. Kick the pharm companies out the door and run them into the dust. I'm so pissed at the whole world, because we are damning ourselves and most of us don't even know or care to know.

Here's a solution: make the world one big garden/farm/nature preserve. Everybody helps in the garden, or hunts, or weaves, or builds adobe structures, or performs other eco-friendly jobs. Anybody gets to be high if they want. There's no commuting because your workplace is at your doorstep, thus no oil is needed and can remain the saurian grave that it is. The world becomes green again, machines are thrown out and people can do as they please, go where they please, and people in fucking suits sitting around a table far removed from reality cannot say shit about how you live your life. Okay, I'm ranting and going OT.

So I still have some rage, but at least I'm not letting it consume me, or taking it to the streets :\
