Psychedelics & soldiers or warriors

Anyone dumb enough to join the military does not have the right kind of intelligence to get the point of psychedelics.
They're not smart enough to take drugs, just, you know, operate machinery that travels multiple times faster than the speed of sound, boats that can travel underwater for months at a time with a nuclear reactor on board, or ships so big that they're essentially small cities (some have post offices). Yes, these people aren't at all interested in sacrificing some of the most precious, valuable things in life, including their life, because they want to preserve a way of life or because they love their country and want to give back! It's nothing like that. They are idiots that couldn't possibly understand that taking illegal drugs made in an illicit laboratory could possibly better your life (or end it if it's mislabeled).

C'mon guy, really?

^ not quite...

For argument's sake, you can be flying a fighter jet but still not be consciously deeply aware of what is right in front of you. Maybe Kevin meant instead of dumb to use a word like non-selfconscious. In the military you are trained to be a cog in a machine right?

So while I still side with Damien, I don't think we are talking the same kinds of intelligence here. There are like at least 8 that have been distinguished I think. Being technologically skilled says fuck all about your ability to put everything in perspective.

Word. And I realized that as I was typing my reply. I just couldn't get the vision of some 17 year old dude who has taken a few trips and thinks he knows how the world really works now, out of my head when I was replying. I realize that my be inaccurate but it's just hard to read such offhand statements that imply that the author is more intelligent than a huge group of people while at the same time saying something very unwise.

Yeah I get ya. Anyway 'dumb' is not a sophisticated word and talking about the whole of the military as a concept... well generalizing is pretty sketchy, generally. ;) (triple pun intended)

Hashashins ftw <3

Also, for goat-staring fans, the original documentary series was way better. The film and book (by the same author/filmmaker) were based on it. Was called "Crazy Rulers of the World: The Men Who Stare At Goats" - a three-parter from memory. Probably pulled from PooToob and the like since the film came out but easily torrented and well worth a watch. As are all Jon Ronson's docs as it happens :)

Happy hunting <3

PS: British soldiers on acid - never fails to crease me up and make me very, very happy to ponder at the possible: "but at one hour and ten minutes after taking the drug, and with one man up a tree trying to feed the birds..." <3

It'd make all of the soldiers want to stop fighting! No way could you fight a war on psychs. Unless you went psychotic, then you'd be a beast in the field.

I did have a mushroom trip where I came to the realization that the only way to really feel like a fulfilled member of society was to join the army and fight a war...
