Ooh blimey how did I miss that one?
160 comments on oink inside 10 days haha! Heard some of it at glade etc and 'tis tres nice.

Yeah, I've been hearing all aboutt the new Younger Brother, gonna get today I believe....

I've been digging a bit of old Astral Projection of latr- fuck id love to seem them live! Also GMS-Emergency Broadcast System: yeah, full-on and melodic, but these guys at least were one of the originals of that style. I really like their album GMS and Amigos from 2000. Also Balance 02-2002-2cd mixed by Kasey Taylor- awesome deep dark proggy house (though these days you'd probably call it prog trancev). Another awesome CD is Planetary Exodus- Various Artists such as Psychoactive, Legoheaad, Mr Peculiar, Iluusion of Self- very nice. 99cents too! JB HI FI is getting rid of all their psy it seems at least in brighton....

Anyone got any reccomendations on some really new artists, albums etc.? I have really only been listening to stuff released before this year- I haven't actually gotten mcuhew releases sorry k lololol. Trolling me old forum is gonna be fun :)

Away from psychedelia but only by degrees is the new Salmonella Dub album- Heal Me, perfect chilled out dubby dancehally beats, lotsa horns and nice singing.... good for some gunja and lying on a couch :)

^It has been much talked about that Astral Projection has faked live shows, especially when they came to America.

I'd much rather listen to Blue Planet Corp than AP anyday.%)

Yo if you need another dub cd check out Dreadlock Tales - SynchroniCity

^Faked as in how? Not many psy artists play very live really....

True, but there's faking & there's faking.....i.e. pretending to do a live PA but just having a mix CD spinning. Someone I know swears blind that they saw Infected Mushroom do this once in the UK.

Although as you allude to, pressing play on a pre-configured Ableton set & then twiddling some filters hardly qualifies as "live" despite what many artists claim.

^ Infected are as live as they come AFAIK; I have sen several youtube and other demonstrtions as to how they play live- mainly, how they sinc live guitar to digitally rigid beats. Either way, they are radically cool and bodacious live. %)

GMS- Fingers. Absolutely rocking fullon heavens to besty trance. Nice. The whole EBS album is great. Also been diggine DJ Telekeniises, an israleii guy who relased a reakly nice compilation.

Also Terranoce for snappy broken and glitchyfucked evil psy; had the CD pumpin tonight and wa very nice.

Okay, heres a psy question: What were Eat Static before they were, ah, eat static? Name a piece....

:)

Them playing a mix CD was just a one-off occasion several years ago, I think. I'm not suggesting they're a couple of regularly fraudulent bastards. :D

Two members of the Ozrics innit! :D

Eat Static are fucking amazing live btw. I saw them at a festival in the summer & it was just relentless.

It's still not really excusable though, is it?

Both acts pissed all over most of the other stuff at this year's Glasto.

Yay, two stars for you, gold ones at that....I have a great Ozric Tenctales 2.5 hour set basically spanning their whole career, truly great psychedelic music.

Must mention No Tone Unstirred- Faeire Dragon, nice and bouncy suomi stuff, very nice...

ozrics rule. was lucky enough to see eat static last year, they did a chillout set at IDspiral in the morning and it was luv-er-ley.

i've heard very bad things about AP's fakery... or rather, demanding-lots-of-big-and-expensive-kit-then-turning-up-drunken-and-faking-poorly, although that could just be slanderous isra gossip which i've lazily and foolishly repeated ;)

a LOT of people don't do anything live, it seems. i dunno, i am a staunch defender of artists when it comes to working out live configurations, because i think one of the real strengths of the scene is that you don't need to be a traditional instrumentalist to write or perform incredible music, and because everyone works differently. that said, i tend to fall into the Son Kite 'FFLA' camp... FuckFakeLiveActs!

^Thats sad about astral projection, they are one of my favorite groups of all time. Howver nothing can compare to the utter fakeness of Dali- putrid. Skazi played in Melb. a year or two ago and asked for a whole electronic drum kit, and proceeded to play the snare out of time for a full twenty seconds of his set...just amazing ;)

I agree that its up to each individual artist what and how they perform, but I don't want to see live next to an act just to realise its a guy basically reading one big waveform and tweaking a knob. Still, its electronic and syncopated music so 'lively' is the description I'd prefer.

On a progressive note, I'm <3ing Ace Ventura's Rebirth at the moment.

Slick as you'd expect from an Iboga release, but many of the tracks have more of a driving edge than you find in most prog. Check it out, it's lovely stuff. :)

^Ace Ventura is good- is he not a member of Space Cat or something...? I'll have to check the abum out, lately I've been really over Iboga though.

Prometheus- Corridor of Mirrors

Not as good as I had hope, Robot-o-chan was easily better imo. The songs are slightly too simplistic for me, though Drug Sock is awesome. I don't really get the 9th symphony song, as I don't know the actualy piece, I can't really tell if Benji has really done much esxcept use samples- and cosmosis did a big symphony piece 5 years ago, probably better.

On better not The Good, Bad and Ugly- WANTED from twisted (its got dino psarisis as a one memeber) is a cool album, not as harshly robotic as many twisted releases.

And finally Probium, dark dark dark psy. Good stufff :)

Check out the lineup for Rainbow Serpent, and if it doens't make you wanna come back to Australia, I don't know what will. I just can't wait to hear Son Kite, Eat Static and Haltya all in the space of a few days...
