About a year ago my doctor(rheumotologist) prescribed me with the drug Ultram for pain (pain which has basically been diagnosed as anything from arthritis, fibromyalgia, to an unknown birth defect) At my last visit about two weeks ago...I told him that I have been in more severe pain then before and have had to up the dosage from 50mg at night...to about 150mg (although I occasionally take up to 250mg when it gets really bad, but I left that part out) He apparently took that as I sign that I was becoming addicted to it's semi-narcotic side affects and told me he would no longer prescribe the ultram, but gave me low doses of an antidepressant. I have tried many of them before....all of which without any results. My question is this: has anyone ever had to convince their doctor that they seriously needed their prescription when he was threatening to take it away and if so what were the magic words used to make him change his mind? Or...does anyone know of a certain kind of doctor...whether it be pain specialist, or even an ER resident!!...that is more likely to prescribe something then the doctor I have now? Any response would be greatly appreciated at this point. Thanks
