^^^Yeah I wish we had someone recording our shows. It is tricky to lug yer own recording stuff around and to set it all up outside of your playing equipment, ,with all the mics and cables and such...but I guess using 2 mics for a room recording wouldn't be so tough. I have this Roland VS880ex digital workstation that I use to record live, but it is a bit scarey having to drag that around...I am always afraid of breaking it. But yeah, if you have access to a friend who can run yer recording gear, that would be best, cause then you can concentrate on the show alone.

My band records every rehearsal though, for the same reason Dex mentioned...listen and learn.

Simply tossing up a couple SM57s and connecting them to a minidisc player/recorder is a good way to get a decent recording of your shows, even if it's just for your band's archive. It's a pretty cheap recording setup as well, especially if you have any (or all) of the equipment at your disposal.

^He knows what he is saying. It's not like you need your live recordings to sound Uber professional, from an engineering standpoint. I'm talking about recording for your own benefit mostly...not for putting on a cd.

I used to have a Roland/Boss BR-1600CD. It was SO GOOD for recording live..But i wouldnt trust bringing it anywhere without me sitting with it the whole time...It's like leaving your baby in the car alone while you shop.

Yes it is exactly like that, except you are shopping in the Neverland Ranch gift shop...

Do you get your "special area" touched with every purchase?

not with every purchase...but if it is some seriously expensive hardware, i use an old connect that used to work at guitar center, so i can get "dealers discount" plus little free accessories.

I am working on this song for a bi-weekly challenge. I would really appreciate some feedback cause I gotta have it in sometime tomorrow.

Please listen.

damn that's good. (I haven't listened to any of your other stuff, yet.)

I would work at all the crash cymbals you have going, tho...Maybe add some modulation to the loud/big ones at the beginning or add another synth at the same time or something...cause it just sounds...i dunno, not that good, i guess?

Is that it? It's pretty short...should break into a solo break instead of ending and then end in a different melody altogether. ;) but ok that's probably a bit much

i think it's pretty good, just work at the massive overuse of cymbals (having cymbals playing the lead doesn't really work...well, i think you could easily do a bit better...just add a synth on the 1s or whenever you have that symbol going off...maybe even replace the cymbal with a synth...yea i think that'd work)

intersting idea...I was uncomfortable with the cymbals myself, but was rushing to get it done for tomorrow. Good advice...I must Kill my inner Keith Moon for this song. Shit...I still gotta file my taxes tonight too. Ugh.

EDIT: I took yer advice and used a sample of a computery sounding bleep to replace the crash cymbal. I think it sounds alot better now. May still need me to edit some of the beelp crashes out now, but overall I think yer tip helped the song out. Thanks man.

Hahahaha...thanks stoney! ;)

Reason is my best friend...I am working on a song in 5/8 now called "progotron"! I could sit in a basement with this prgram and a big ole bag of weed for ever. I think the only other thing I would need is bread and water...and maybe some pipe cleaners.

Here's something old that I did all messed on DXM. It was the song that gave me my name...all impromptu. I thought you guys might get a chuckle out of it...

Hotel NJ

Anyone listen to Hotel NJ? You get to here me on 2 bottles of cough syrup singing. This is on of the first time I ever went into the Catfish Rivers persona. I talked in this raspy voice, and I found that it got to be contagious. I found it hard to no slip into talking like that. Even a few of my roommates caught the bug and were talking in raspy blues voices for a few days. I dunno what the hell was going on, but this song is pretty funny. It'll make you laugh.

So everyone just stopped using this thread all of a sudden? Did alienz abduct musicians across the globe? Interplanetary, interplanetary, interplanetary music.

No. I'll come back in full force. I'm stuck in a rut of some serious hardcore drug abuse. You can read about it in the Drub Basics forums. I have a lot to post still here, for a long time. Hell, i'll be releasing cd's while still posting here.

Dont worry.

^^^Well thank goodness.

Hey, here's something brandy spankin new.

Meh Reh Geh

Totally made in Reason 3.0

It is the first time I have ever programmed in the drums instead of playing them with my midi keyboard. I think they came out pretty decent...although I wanna get in there and insert some fills and variations at spots.
