I just got a violent femmes shirt. And I've seen another one that just says 'i forget what eight was for ' I want to get that one too but I think it might be lost on the younger generations

Ah, probably then. I think you're Gen X and I'm Millennial.
Not sure many people my age would know them. I remember an episode of Sabrina the Teenage Witch where Sabrina and he friends go to see them in concert lol. Mostly I was introduced to them via them being quoted/referenced a few times in More, Now, Again by Elizabeth Wurtzel.
