Heyah,

I don't ever usually post on this board but I was wondering...

Can anyone recommend some good tattoo artists/places in Melbourne? Someone good with fine detail?

I'm wanting to get a tat, something plant or vine like going up my arm, with the impression of growth. Maybe some shading but not much, and no bright colours.

Anyone know of anyone/anywhere good in Melbourne? Maybe a place with portfolios I can see online?

I've had a piece done at Tattoo Magic in Fitzroy. I actually can't remember the name of the bloke who did it - had an american accent. Very nice black work - sharp outlines that have barely faded or blurred in the last 5 years - and it gets a bit of sun.

Oh I just checked the website - it was Tim who did mine

After all that I said before it turns out my scars that I was crapping on about were hypertrophic, and apparently had just stretched giving the impression that they had extended past the site of injury.

I wouldn't mind getting a tattoo over them but I need to do some more research first.

DFRS wasn't particularly happy with her tattooist, was she?

Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge of bright colourful tattoos? I like them much more than the darker blue and black ones. People always say they fade, but if they do can get you them recoloured? I wouldn't have a problem with doing that as long as it came out looking the same as before, not shittier each time. I assume they're not as good for covering things up though.

My first and only tattoo (so far). Got it in December. It's my own design. I almost forget I have it.

Nah he is all good now. My tat is almost done too. I actually had a allergic reaction to one of the colors he has used. Apparently some people can react to reds or colors similar, of which i have as to why it seemed to be flared up. But it's coming along well now. And I have realised to take my tattooist with a grain of salt - i told him the next time i went in for a session after that time when he upset me that i wasn't impressed with how he spoke to me the last time, and that he has stressed me out a fair bit. He was so shocked when i told him some of the things he said, he didn't seem to remember. Yeah i know - weird. Whether it's true or not, i don't really care anymore. He is doing a really good job with it so i am satisfied with that. Even if he is a bit strange and tense.

But yeah - i even went as far as getting a second opinion from another well known tattooist in Melbourne and they gave me their word that my tattooist is actually doing a really good job, as it's a difficult tattoo.

Yes you can have your tats re colored again, and from what i have been advised they do come out looking nice each time. But tats need to be taken care of - if you expose it to a lot of sun, and don't even use sunscreen then you will indeed lose heaps of color. But if you generally don't expose your tats to a lot of sun, they'll stay pretty bright. It also depends on the individuals skin too - some skin types will hold the color better than others. It all really depends. You don't really know until you try. If you are as pale as you say Vanth, then a color tat will definitely be bright and vibrant on your skin. Thats the good thing about pale skin - you can have any color and as many colors as you want.

The BEST is Cody at Tattoo Magic on Gertrude street.

Its a 6 month waiting list, but its well worth it.

Or even Purple Haze in Narre Warren (east side) They are very well known and have won shit loads of awards. But you gotta have Nick Haze do it, there are other tattooists there but he's the man you want. They're pricey though. And i also recommend my tattooist but if you want to know further details of that just PM me. :)

With picking a tattooist you really need to go in and speak to them directly about what you want, and look at the port folios they have there in the store. I don't trust everything i see on the web. You have to do it thoroughly and right when picking a tattooist in my opinion. But we're all different.

I was thinking Sara Melder at Dynamic Tattoo in Richmond?
Her portfolio on the web impresses me...anyone heard anything about her?
Trevor McStay there is meant to be amazing too but the stuff he seems to do doesn't seem to be what I'm into...I don't want big colourful japanese style ones...

Dynamic Tattoo in Richmond are the best that I have come across. The artwork on display there looks amazing. I would highly recommend them for their art work.

^Have you actually seen someone with one of their tattoos on them though? Seeing the art in the book only is not enough to really go by. Recommendations from people who have actually had work done from there are much better.

:(
I saw dfrs had just posted here and thought it was a pic of her tat. :(

Excuse all the grease. I have to keep on with the ointments as it still tends to peel and it quite itchy from my sensitive skin. But here it is, and it's still not finished :(

After going over and over the whole tat about 4 times, the purple ink still hasn't gone it completely. Looks like i am back for some more in a week or two. And it certainly hurts more the more you go over the same spot whilst reacting to it. It's been a nightmare to say the least :(

And no i don't have a hunched back ;) That's just me trying to cram it into the whole photo. Its not easy taking a photo of your back!

Whats the go with getting tattoo's? Im keen as to get one, im leaning towards something scorpio related. Can i go in and discuss it and they draw it up? Or do i have to come up with the design myself. I roughly know what i want, but there is no way i'd be capable of drawing it up.

Tattooist are artists so they are able to draw them up for you. Just be sure to be selective with whom you get it done by. Not all tattooists are capable unfortunately.
