(The poppy tea experience doesn't start until paragraph 7, not including this one. I wanted to include my previous attempts at getting high. If you're not interested, just skip to paragraph 7.)

I've been fascinated by opiates, especially heroin, for years now. I was scared to try them, but about a year ago I started feeling like I wouldn't be young much longer, so I better hurry up and get the stupid shit out of the way. I decided I'd try to get my opiate high by starting at the bottom and working up.

I started with codeine, one of the weakest opiates. I tried 90 mg one night, and then 180 mg another. On 180 mg, I could feel the slightest sensation that it was doing something, but there was no high, not even a buzz really. Also, I got a terrible headache the next morning, worse than any time I've gotten drunk. I stopped there because I was starting to run low on pills plus I figured I'd probably hit my ceiling without getting much out of codeine. It seemed I had a fairly high natural tolerance to codeine, so I stepped it up a notch.

I kept trying to buy some hydrocodone or oxycodone but I never could get a connection on some at the right time. Ironically, I went to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth pulled out and he prescribed me hydrocodone. He prescribed 15 5 mg pills for my gum infection and then 15 7.5 mg pills with one refill for the operation. I saved all of them until after the operation. Well I guess I got lucky, but it really didn't hurt that much. I had a mild ache the first day, and just soreness after that.

I took my first pill (a 5 mg) the first night to help me sleep. It didn't do anything, so 30 minutes later I took another one. Then I took 2 more spaced 15 minutes apart. After 20 mg of hydrocodone, my ache finally went away - which very well could have been due to the acetaminophen - but I experienced nothing else. There was no buzz, no high, just disappointment. I had reached my acetaminophen

So the next night, I did a cold water extraction. I drank some grapefruit juice (as much as I hate the taste) about 30 minutes early to hopefully get some potentiation. I started with 30 mg and worked my way up to 70 mg. After that, I finally started to feel a little loose. After sitting for a while, I stood up and almost fell back down because my muscles were unexpectedly relaxed. Once I got used to it, it wasn't a problem though. Other than feeling relaxed though, there really wasn't any effects. I certainly didn't get any euphoria. It was like being tipsy on alcohol without the mental effects. Again, I was disappointed and decided I should move on to the hardcore opiates instead of wasting more hydrocodone. Damn this natural tolerance! On the bright side, I didn't have a bad headache the next day like with codeine.

I considered fentanyl for my next drug, but decided it was a bit too dangerous. I figured morphine and similar prescription drugs would cost too much. I figured my best bet would be to get the big mama of all opiates, heroin, and chase the dragon. I never could find any from a trusted source though and none of my friends wanted to help me find any. I would say I can't blame them, but some of them have done cocaine and methamphetamine, which I consider to be worse than heroin.

Then I discovered poppy tea. I decided it was perfect: it was quite potent and I could take as much as I want and not have to worry about hepatoxicity. So I ordered a batch of 50 pods which finally arrived yesterday. I was planning on brewing a huge batch (several servings, maybe 25 or so pods) this weekend but I couldn't wait. I had to have a small taste before then. My stepbrother and stepsister wanted to try it too, so I threw 8 pods in the blender. I mixed the powder with the juice from one lemon and some water. I put it on the stove for about 40 minutes, trying to keep the temperature around 175. I did get up to 212 once, but I got it off the burner before it actually boiled. Just before I took it off, I threw in some regular tea to try to hide the taste.

So I poured myself a plastic cup full of it and my stepbrother and stepsister poured theirs in some mixed drink glasses I have. I think I got at least half of the tea all to myself, so we'll say I had about 4 or 5 pods. This stuff is very slow to kick in, but I eventually started to feel it. After about 30 minutes, my muscles started to feel a little tired like I had just done a workout. They weren't sore though, just tired. I was feeling pretty calm. They eventually left and I had to go to sleep for work. I laid down and felt very relaxed. I never did feel euphoric or high, but it was the strongest effects I'd ever had off of opiates. For the first time, I actually felt pretty good.

Unfortunately, I didn't sleep worth a piss. I was very relaxed, but I just laid there in a state of somnolence. I thought about taking an ambien, but decided it may not be wise to mix it with opiates. I think I finally got to sleep around 2 or 3 AM. The bad thing was I had to wake up to go to work at 5:15. Needless to say, it was god awful. I felt worse than if I hadn't slept at all. I think I was still slightly under the effects of the tea. I had a terrible headache, just like when I took codeine before. I took off for work and just a few miles down the road, I started feeling nauseous. I was also so tired, I was having trouble paying attention to the road. I turned around and went back home and slept. I woke up around 11 feeling much better except for the headache. I took some acetaminophen for that. So finally I feel alright again. You can bet I'll never do that again on a weeknight.

I'd like to take a higher dose Saturday night since I don't have to wake up early Sunday. These headaches I get the next morning are terrible though. Is it normal to feel "hung over" from opiates? Is there anything I can do about it?

I'm not terribly experienced with poppy tea but I've had headaches the day after with various prescription opiates.

Nausea is also fairly common for me with poppy seed tea as well as prescription opiates.

I also get insomnia with opiates.

I think the nausea was from sleep deprivation. I sometimes get it if I get very little sleep. Plus I had no nausea until I had to wake up.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that gets headaches and insomnia though. I'm curious why I get the headaches with codeine (and maybe morphine) but not hydrocodone.

poppies last a really long time. you will feel them hte next day and maybe even a little bit the day after. having your body opiated for so long explains your headache because it lowers your blood pressure

many people paradoxically get insomnia from opiates. i find that low-medium doses do this (you just lay there tired/relaxed but not entering sleep) but medium-high doses (especially if you've been nodding) will easily put you asleep. though you will periodically wake up, the sleep will still feel very refreshing (better than usual)

mixing ambien with a low-medium dose of opiates wont cause problems

btw, don't measure your pods in number of pods. pods can be marble, golfball, or tennisball sized, or anywhere in between. '5 pods' means nothing to us reading hte report. it's much safer to use a consistent way of dosing. since its good to powder the poppies before making tea anyway (maximize surface area, use a coffee grinder) you could measure it in tablespoons (i find 2-3 tablespoons gives a good high) or in grams if you have a scale

The pods are roughly the size of golf balls. I know it's not very meaningful to list the number of pods, but I don't have a scale and didn't feel like digging it out of the blender with a spoon. I was kind of in a hurry. I'll be taking more time to do the next brew, so maybe I'll check on that.

As for consistent dosing, the pods in this batch should be consistent and if/when I get a new batch, I'll start small again and work up. It seems to be everyone else's strategy to brew just one dose in each batch, but I'd rather brew a shitload and just drink a little at a time until I'm happy and then have some for friends or for next time.

the opium high requires patience. it is very subtle and you have to learn to appreciate, but you will begin to appreciate more and more, as your use increases. opium doesnt like to be rushed. if you dont blend with it your dose will increase alot or you will move on to the quick fixes like pills and heroin.

I had a second go at this. I made another batch of tea, this time with 25 pods. Since you asked, 25 pods after blending made about 1 2/3 cups of powder. I left it on the heat for about 1 1/2 hours the first time, then added some more water to the same filtered mash and did a quick heat on it.

I started out really small, with about a quarter of a mixed drink glass. Every 20 to 30 minutes, I'd redose, gradually increasing the dosage. Eventually, I felt a buzz, with my muscles feeling tired again. I promised a friend I'd go to his house so I had one more small drink and left around 7 PM. I ended up drinking a little over a third of what I made.

Shortly after arriving, my high started getting pretty intense. I was definitely feeling the euphoria this time. One of my friends told me I needed to settle down. (I'm usually a very calm person.) One commented on my constricted pupils. It was getting hard to pay attention, as if I was tipsy, and then as if I was completely drunk. It wasn't so much like the effects of alcohol, but I have experience with few drugs to compare it to. I was getting itchy too. My breathing was getting a bit shallow, not dangerously though. While watching someone play a video game, I nearly nodded off. I imagine I would have if I hadn't been trying to keep myself awake. I ate half of a meatball sub, but kept finding it harder and harder to stay awake. My euphoria started to decline because of this. I finally told my friend I was going home and got someone to follow me. I didn't feel comfortable driving, but luckily it wasn't very far.

Once I got home, I tried to nod off but just didn't feel quite as sedated anymore. So I called someone and told her she should come try some of the tea, but not as much as I did. Well when she got over here, she said she had to drive, so we both decided it wouldn't be a good idea for her to drink. I started feeling really sedated again, so I got her to leave and I laid down.

I was expecting just a short nod, but I ended up sleeping until roughly 5 AM, 6 hours or so. At that point, I woke up and needed to piss, so I walked to my porch and attempted to do so. I couldn't get anything to come out. It was like I had constipation of the bladder. Then I started feeling nauseous, so I pulled up my pants and laid down in the doorway. When it subsided, I went and sit on the can. After two or three minutes, some of the urine finally came out, but I could tell it wasn't all. I gave up and laid back down on the couch. Of course every time I got up, the nausea kicked in.

At some point, I realized that my unconscious breathing was very shallow or nonexistent. There was a time when I started panting because I wasn't getting enough air. I started to get really scared to go back to sleep, afraid I wouldn't wake up. I was alone and it was 5 AM, so I couldn't get someone to come watch me. I drank a couple of cokes, but that did nothing. I've never really had any desire to do hard stimulants like cocaine, but if I had had some at that moment, I would have done it from fear of dying. Keep in mind that this was about 10 hours after I had last dosed.

I checked on these forums to see what the symptoms of an opioid overdose were. It seems the consensus was that you would pass out before you realized you were overdosing. That was good because I was able to stay awake, although it took some effort. Unfortunately, it still didn't do much to ease my panic. I absolutely would not allow myself to go to sleep. I was laying on my couch staring at the ceiling, riding along the edge of consciousness in a state of somnolence. I really don't know how I did it, as sedated as I was, but I managed to stay awake until around 7 AM. At that point, my breathing improved so I let myself fall asleep again.

I woke up around 10 AM feeling much better. It's 11 right now. I feel like I still have the slightest buzz, but I'm not nearly as fucked up as I was a few hours ago. Overall, it began as a very pleasant experience but turned into a nightmare. I wouldn't say it turned me off of opiates forever, but I do think I'll be taking a break for a few weeks at least. On the bright side, I don't have a hangover (so far).

you need to do it more often, till you get comfortable with the side effects to the point you don't want to live without them! Also props on distributing to family members.

jesus almost two cups? 5 tablespoons should be enough if you dont have much tolerance. plus you don't need to leave it on the stove that long.. 5 minutes is fine

you also should look into grapefruit juice.. imo it's not even worth drinking pods without some cheap white grapefruit juice on hand

If you've been up for hours high, dont get too anxious. If you were to overdose it would have happened soon after you took it and not hours later.

I've been thinking about trying tea myself as I dont have any easy opiate connects anymore

kiss your ass good bye

you can kiss your ass goodbye if you get yourself a habit, if you pick up the needle then just shoot yourself, it would be kinder to yourself . after 12 years of addiction l have just gone through the rapid detox because l was sick of picking up done everyday, which is what you will eventually do too. save your self from the friggin merry-go-round. best of luck, jo

dude, your headaches are from being DEHYDRATED.

You need to read more on the effects of opium. IT dehydrates you so you need to drink more water then you normally do. or you will be dehydrated and get headaches or much worse then that. thank you come again.

I hear ya man, my most intense pod experience was when I used +/- 30 golfball sized pods (which equalled about 2 tall glasses of very vile tasting tea). I thought I could handle it, but boy was I ever wrong...

After being blissfully high for a couple hours, I spent the rest of the night throwing up to the point of dryheaving and I couldn't piss for damn near 24 hours. A buddy of mine and I were supposed to go to the casino that night, but I every time I stood up I had to run to the bathroom and spend 5 minutes vomiting.

Since then I cut my dose down to about 10 large sized pods, but my tolerance has steadily been on the rise. Right now it takes me anywhere from 15-20 golfball sized pods to get a decent high, so imagine trying 30 again wouldn't make me sick.

I need to cut back...

Make sure none of your pods have any fungus in them (it will look all fuzzy and dark in the pod).

Whatever that mold/fungus is that grows in the pods will get you a nasty headache.
