(The poppy tea experience doesn't start until paragraph 7, not including this one. I wanted to include my previous attempts at getting high. If you're not interested, just skip to paragraph 7.)
I've been fascinated by opiates, especially heroin, for years now. I was scared to try them, but about a year ago I started feeling like I wouldn't be young much longer, so I better hurry up and get the stupid shit out of the way. I decided I'd try to get my opiate high by starting at the bottom and working up.
I started with codeine, one of the weakest opiates. I tried 90 mg one night, and then 180 mg another. On 180 mg, I could feel the slightest sensation that it was doing something, but there was no high, not even a buzz really. Also, I got a terrible headache the next morning, worse than any time I've gotten drunk. I stopped there because I was starting to run low on pills plus I figured I'd probably hit my ceiling without getting much out of codeine. It seemed I had a fairly high natural tolerance to codeine, so I stepped it up a notch.
I kept trying to buy some hydrocodone or oxycodone but I never could get a connection on some at the right time. Ironically, I went to the dentist to have my wisdom teeth pulled out and he prescribed me hydrocodone. He prescribed 15 5 mg pills for my gum infection and then 15 7.5 mg pills with one refill for the operation. I saved all of them until after the operation. Well I guess I got lucky, but it really didn't hurt that much. I had a mild ache the first day, and just soreness after that.
I took my first pill (a 5 mg) the first night to help me sleep. It didn't do anything, so 30 minutes later I took another one. Then I took 2 more spaced 15 minutes apart. After 20 mg of hydrocodone, my ache finally went away - which very well could have been due to the acetaminophen - but I experienced nothing else. There was no buzz, no high, just disappointment. I had reached my acetaminophen
So the next night, I did a cold water extraction. I drank some grapefruit juice (as much as I hate the taste) about 30 minutes early to hopefully get some potentiation. I started with 30 mg and worked my way up to 70 mg. After that, I finally started to feel a little loose. After sitting for a while, I stood up and almost fell back down because my muscles were unexpectedly relaxed. Once I got used to it, it wasn't a problem though. Other than feeling relaxed though, there really wasn't any effects. I certainly didn't get any euphoria. It was like being tipsy on alcohol without the mental effects. Again, I was disappointed and decided I should move on to the hardcore opiates instead of wasting more hydrocodone. Damn this natural tolerance! On the bright side, I didn't have a bad headache the next day like with codeine.
I considered fentanyl for my next drug, but decided it was a bit too dangerous. I figured morphine and similar prescription drugs would cost too much. I figured my best bet would be to get the big mama of all opiates, heroin, and chase the dragon. I never could find any from a trusted source though and none of my friends wanted to help me find any. I would say I can't blame them, but some of them have done cocaine and methamphetamine, which I consider to be worse than heroin.
Then I discovered poppy tea. I decided it was perfect: it was quite potent and I could take as much as I want and not have to worry about hepatoxicity. So I ordered a batch of 50 pods which finally arrived yesterday. I was planning on brewing a huge batch (several servings, maybe 25 or so pods) this weekend but I couldn't wait. I had to have a small taste before then. My stepbrother and stepsister wanted to try it too, so I threw 8 pods in the blender. I mixed the powder with the juice from one lemon and some water. I put it on the stove for about 40 minutes, trying to keep the temperature around 175. I did get up to 212 once, but I got it off the burner before it actually boiled. Just before I took it off, I threw in some regular tea to try to hide the taste.
So I poured myself a plastic cup full of it and my stepbrother and stepsister poured theirs in some mixed drink glasses I have. I think I got at least half of the tea all to myself, so we'll say I had about 4 or 5 pods. This stuff is very slow to kick in, but I eventually started to feel it. After about 30 minutes, my muscles started to feel a little tired like I had just done a workout. They weren't sore though, just tired. I was feeling pretty calm. They eventually left and I had to go to sleep for work. I laid down and felt very relaxed. I never did feel euphoric or high, but it was the strongest effects I'd ever had off of opiates. For the first time, I actually felt pretty good.
Unfortunately, I didn't sleep worth a piss. I was very relaxed, but I just laid there in a state of somnolence. I thought about taking an ambien, but decided it may not be wise to mix it with opiates. I think I finally got to sleep around 2 or 3 AM. The bad thing was I had to wake up to go to work at 5:15. Needless to say, it was god awful. I felt worse than if I hadn't slept at all. I think I was still slightly under the effects of the tea. I had a terrible headache, just like when I took codeine before. I took off for work and just a few miles down the road, I started feeling nauseous. I was also so tired, I was having trouble paying attention to the road. I turned around and went back home and slept. I woke up around 11 feeling much better except for the headache. I took some acetaminophen for that. So finally I feel alright again. You can bet I'll never do that again on a weeknight.
I'd like to take a higher dose Saturday night since I don't have to wake up early Sunday. These headaches I get the next morning are terrible though. Is it normal to feel "hung over" from opiates? Is there anything I can do about it?
