Poppy tea is the fucking devil

Re: Clonidine for w/d- from the Journal of the American Medical Assn:

Opiate withdrawal using clonidine. A safe, effective, and rapid nonopiate treatment

M. S. Gold, A. C. Pottash, D. R. Sweeney and H. D. Kleber

Clonidine hydrochloride was administered to ten patients in an inpatient setting after abrupt discontinuation of chronic methadone hydrochloride administration. Clonidine produced a rapid and statistically significant decrease in opiate withdrawal signs and symptoms. Clonidine administration for 14 days enabled all patients to be successfully detoxified from chronic opiate administration. In all patients studied, clonidine was a safe and effective nonopiate treatment of opiate withdrawal that suppressed the affect, signs, and symptoms of opiate withdrawal. These data support the hypothesis that the alpha 2-adrenergic agonist, clonidine, has substantial antiwithdrawal effect by replacing opiate-mediated inhibition with alpha 2-mediated inhibition of brain noradrenergic activity.

N0cturnal - How long had you been abusing the tea before you tried to stop? I know this is an old thread but was just curious if you could enlighten me.

I've been using the pods for about 2 months now, and I'm starting to get anxious about what I've gotten myself into. Theoretically, all this shit can really build up in your system, as is evident by the fact that you had to wait 10 days for the suboxone not to make you feel worse. I mean, that's like longer than methadone!?

Please let me know! I kept telling myself that I could just taper down, but it's starting to sink in that if I want a fairly easy taper I could be going down for months...

i can't believe the pod thing. i was a black tar herion addict with a gram daily or more if i could get it habit. i found tapering pretty easy and like people said the w/d really is not bad once you get past like 3 days. finally i stupided out and went on methadone - but that is another story. methadone w/d sucks.
anyway - i have been away from all opiates for 7 years and recently i started experimenting with poppy pods - just one or 2 at the most and i eat the grounds. i was only doing this every other day - and i would still get w/d on the third day. and it was really bad! i can't imagine what it would be like on more than one or 2 pods - i mean i am only doing one or 2 every OTHER day - ok - i know i have an - every other day habit - that is exactly how i started with H - once a week, than 2x a week, then every other day.... then once a day... you know....
well, anyway - i really do think that poppy pods are the devil
when i was withdrawing from H and methadone i never really had the diaherrea - but with this! hahaha! but i guess it is all that fiber getting stuck in you and then finally let out again.....
so anyway - i just got more pods and i am thinking about doing some now - LOL
djh

try and eat healthy/fibre + drink lots of water if your on the poppy diet...these things fuck with your stomach like no other (enough to give me haemoroids infact :| )

NOcturnal, did you tell the doc that you were on pod tea?

I've been on PPT for 3 1/2 years, daily use. I don't want to be dependent forever- I can't go cold turkey (the withdrawal is insane) and taper hasn't worked. Once I get health insurance, I'm thinking of getting on Sub. But I'm worried that a doctor won't understand how powerful pod tea is.

Will they give Sub for Pod tea or should I say I'm on morphine?

If you think they'll just shrug off the tea, maybe just say you're addicted to Opium, but don't be specific?

I did the tea every couple nights for a couple months. No withdrawals for me though

Horribly constipated however

Good idea.

You're smart to space it out.

Maybe I'll try getting it down to once a night, then slowly to every other night and so on. I'll still have WD but it prob won't be as intense. Has anyone tried this?

Hey my friend, just find out how much you have to take daily to stay comfortable, then start a slow steady taper.

What has worked for me in the past was to wait as long as I can before I start going crazy (48 hours) and then dose just enough to feel normal (for me, about 1 or 2 xl pods). Just take it one day at a time, and just make it as far as you can before taking your next dose.

Try not to cheat! My problem has been that after 3 or 4 days of tapering, I know that I'll be able to get high as hell again so I'll binge for 3 days and then have to do it over again.

Tapering does work, it's not painless but the overall suffering is probably less than cold turkey. Having the will power to complete a taper is a different story. Not impossible,, but certainly difficult.

Sounds like a good taper plan, thanks!

I've had the same problem. I'll get my tolerance down, then I'll either have a bad day and want to get really high, or want to celebrate something and get really high. I basically find any excuse to get really high, haha.

I just have to get my mind right and man up.

I got on Suboxone for my pod tea habit, and I told my doctor I was addicted to poppy pods. He didn't seem perplexed by it, in fact he didn't really even ask me anything else. It was strange...I got the script and was never drug tested (before or after...never) and never had to have a follow up appointment. Just had to call in my subs every month after that.

Moral of story: Didn't harm me to be honest with my doctor about pods, but then again the laid back doctor I had was obviously not your average psychiatrist. This actually worked against me in the long run too (addiction issues, abusing Suboxone, etc. etc.).

Ugh, I know man. Once you know your tolerance has gone down, and you know you can get high it's always in the back of your mind. It's so hard to say no... :p

I'm not a frequent opiate user and I have been eating dry pods pods on Friday and Saturday of the past 2 week ends. Is this enough moderation as long as I don't up the dose every weekend?

Also, I ate pods this past Saturday, and now today on Wednesday I feel like shit.....although nothing severe, fatigue, sore throat, sour stomach, and the runs.

I can't be having WDs with this little of use can I?

I wouldn't think you'd be dependent after that

Could be just making you a little sick. The last few times I did poppy pods I felt pretty sick afterwards

Sounds like minor w/d's to me. Poppy pods seem to have a much longer half life than alot of other opiates, meaning you don't need to use as frequently to become dependent. You use for one day, and you've got it in your system for 2-3 days. Use again the next day, and now you've doubled the amount there. Even with a few days inbetween uses, it's going to build up in your system over time and you're going to start feeling shitty without it.

Pod tea is best enjoyed on a one day per week basis if you ask me (if it needs to be enjoyed at all).

i am doing poppy pod grounds lately. so far i have only done 3 at the most - but i will say that if i skip 2 days i start to feel really bad. i have been addicted to H before and it was much worse - but just knowing that you can do pods and buy them so easy and no one bats an eye - makes it much harder to stop IMO

Im curious, I have been taking opiates, Oxy, hydro, on and off for years now and it's been 3 weeks since I've had any in my system. I made poppy pod tea this weekend. Friday I had one cup of 4 pods. Sat 2 cups 5pods, and Sunday 1 cup 4 pods...I'm done now and don't plan on taking any more this month...Should I expect withdrawls from this amount??

Can someone answer this question? I would like to know as well. I am in a similar situation. If I had a break for a few weeks, and then just went on a heavy binge over the weekend, would it be fathomable to expect slight withdrawals from this?

It's a pain to make... I've only made it once, and I still have 19 pods left (my first attempt I only tried one). After drinking my bitter tasting podded tea (only 1 pod) I didn't feel any euphoria effect, hmm... Ill try two next time... I am scared of ODing and I know it's not a lot, but I don't want to get addicted but I do want to enjoy the 19 I have left once in a while...

what is the simplest, cleanest way to make this tea? I made a mess with my first and only attempt..

My procedure:
1. Ground one pod in a pestal via mortar to a pretty fine powder.
2. Boiled water and let sit for ~5 minutes and then added powder.
3. Let sit for 10 minutes, stirred occasionally.
4. Poured contents through coffee filter.
5. Drank within 10 minutes, didn't feel anything afterwards.

I had a large amount, about 20 oz worth for 1 pod, that's a lot huh?

Here's the simplest way to make it. Keep in mind I have a tolerance.

1) grind pods in coffee grinder (I grind all my pods at once and store the grinds in tupperware.)
2) Measure grinds (I use around 1/2 to 2/3 cup, about 3 to 4 pods), pour into a large mug.
3) Heat water in another cup, no need to boil, just as hot as you'd use for regular tea. Pour hot water over the grinds and stir.
4) Let sit 10 min.
5) Strain with a wire mesh tea strainer or cloth (cotton t-shirt, sock). Coffee filters suck for this. Save the used grinds for another batch.
6) Drink and enjoy.

20 oz is way to much liquid. A cup, or even a half cup of water is enough for one pod (unless you got XXXL pods).
