Police use technology to target drug users

I don't see the problem here. It's called profiling and it works. Why waste your time targeting a middle aged mother of 3, with no priors when statistically you are better off targeting someone who has a track record? If it was your job to spot a drug user on the street who would you choose? It is called the war on drugs and unfortunately a lot of you are losing the battle. If you are carrying surely it makes sense not to draw attention to yourself. An unregistered car is just as stupid as a car load of yahooing yobs.

What is "fair" when you are trying to break the law? Surely the smartest move is not to get caught in the first place therefor not draw attention to your self in the future? Fines for drunk and disorder when you are young are a perfect sign to me that you are an irresponsible risk taker. If i know this why should the police ignore it? Too many people think a criminal conviction is a badge of honor and I for one have no sympathy for them.

^ Well said, Busty. It is a War, and the police take it very seriously. Drug users need to be careful about when and where they carry and use, and use discretion at all times.

LOL this has been the case in Victoria for at least the best part of the last decade. Since 2005-2007 afaik - i remember reading wiki, and that Melbourne was one of the first places to deploy this kind of technology.

I've been pulled up unlicensed multiple times - but only ever in cars strictly registered to me. That's when the technology first became apparent to me and i did some research.

To counter-act the technology at the time, i registered my car in my partners name, a female. Was never pulled over once.
