Piracetam - does it work??

anyone tied this product: BrainQUICKEN

it doesn't claim to have Piracetam in it, but rather "Proprietary Cognamine (tm) Complex"

[Edit: Ingredients included. BT]

It obviously sounds like a sales pitch, but Im curious nonetheless. Would be keen to hear anyone's experience with these, if there is any. Nano or Veloci?

this stuff sounds interesting.
anybody tried it with LSD?

and out of curiosity, has anybody tried racking up one of these pills and railing them, then dropping MDMA on top =D

^the first time i heard about piracetam was in erowid about a guy using it with LSD and speed. very cool report, i'll see if i can find later :)

ive also seen erowid reports from people claiming to have visuals from speed alone (but i'm very sketchy of this)

I've found piracetam to be worthless.

You cant just *preload* with it and hope for the best...ive heard reports that you have to be taking it for time (a month or more) to get noticable effects.

Piracetam is great. I've been on it for more than a year, but just as a cognition enhancer, and not as a complement to recreational drugs. There seems to be loads of positive information on it, but I wondered - just for interest - has anybody experienced any negative effects?

Do you think it is maintainable for life, like a vitamin supplement? There is so little information of this kind around..

Negative effects I have experienced include:

Look slightly tired and a bit worn out
Dreamless sleep
Overstimulation
Dehydration
Spots!

Not all of the time, but definitely increased since I've been taking it.

The mental and emotional benefits, however, have been greater than any of these problems.

..Anyone else?

800mg? have you had an attack dose yet?

attack was 3200mg, I was dosing 1.6g per day for 6 weeks, combined with 250mg Centrophenoxine and i felt definate improvement in vocabulary [less word salad from heavy smot poking], short term memory, concentration and focus.

Post your nootropic daily menu here! :)

Yes i actually had month long hiatus from nootropic use and so i doubledose usually with 1600 mgs for my first take, then i up it to 3200 succeeding. :D

Vinpocetine is a well-researched, safe, cerebral vasodilator and antioxidant. It's derived from vincamine. I've tried it before, and there appears to be *some* result, but to be honest I think piracetam is superior. Everyone gets different results, though...

I've found fantastic results for exams with the following:
4g piracetam per day (2g morning, 2g evening)
4g choline (2g morning, 2g evening)
5mg selegiline
1000mg phenylalanine (500mg morning, 500mg evening)
10 fish oil tablets (~3g omega-6)

After about a week or two my memory starts becomng almost photographic. I can memorise enormous volumes of information with relative ease.... For example, I didn't really go to statistical physics for most of the semester, and in 3 days managed to learn around 130 pages of notes... Ended up getting 91 in the subject.

My thoughts were much clearer too :)

The guy earlier in the topic said it's state dependent... do you remember things you learned on piracetam? Or did you never stop taking it?

Thats awesome. Way more exciting and attractive than any rec drug IMO.

And whoever said that Piracetam gives dreamless sleep -Ive always found the opposite. Try combining with 5htp or mugwort and see how you go.

Can anyone give me a solid mens multi-vit brand? And how important is omega 3?

whoa... back the memory truck up here.

Everyone who's keen on taking piracetam, is also taking 5+ other supplements, ones which I know little about.

How exactly do you take piracetam, and with what?

ie piracetam + chloline? or do you have to take it with 3 other supplements?

so many names for things, and combinations, im just confused!

How proficient were you at memorizing enormous volumes of information before taking the supplement?
This one paragraph almost made me jizz, i might add.

Hey moe if you're thinking of getting piracetam etc PM me and we'll split the shipping costs neh? I've been planning to buy some for a while now, along with 5HTP and a few other things.

Here's my 6 day diary of Piracetam

each day I also take 800mg Omega 3 and 800mg Cod Liver Oil BP Zinc 15mg Manganese 6mg Lecithin 1g

day 1 : 7:45am dosage 1600mg of piracatem (pr) 250mg centrophenoxine (cp)

Had my first dose of piracetam today, 1600mg made my mouth taste kinda
funny, but only last an hour or so. felt like i want to grind my teeth
too (placebo?)

day 2: 7:35am attack dose of pr 3600mg 250mg cp

again made my mouth taste a little metallic. During the day everything
appeared 'clear', almost like when coming up on shrooms. A glassy
effect to all things metallic or painted, like cars, stainless steel
and funnyily enough the sky. My mind at 13:00ish seemed clear, not a
real noticable effect, but when left alone my mind feels clear, like
there are no cob webs. Very refreshing. Wife also dosed today and when
she got home asked if a had cleaned the house, i hadn't (of course). A
definite 'clarity' to everything. Sleep difficult, mind way too
active. 3mg of melatonin to cure. Works everytime. :-)

day 3: 7:40am 2400mg pr - 250mg cp

similar effects to previous day. stress levels at work seems to be lower.
no noticable memory gain, but definitely a clearer mind, having said
that it is hard to quantify. Glassy effects are most prominanent after
3pm and disappears around 8:30-9:00pm (i figure as day light slowly
disappears) No sleep issues.

day 4: 7:30am 1600mg of pr 250mg cp

effects seems less obvious, no metallic taste. glassy effects continue

day 5: 7:30am 1600mg of pr 250mg cp 8:30 am 100mg of 5-htp

became grumpy around 7:45, this is normal. occasionly i get the sh!ts
in the AM. Took 5-htp to attempt to cure. Grumpiness normally
disappears around midday, i think 5-htp helped, gone by 10ish. Glassy
effect still prominanent.

day 6: 7:40am 1600mg of pr 250mg cp 9:00am 100mg of 5-htp. 2 pints of
beer (apx 5%/vol)

continue with my 5-htp routine. i stopped a week before starting this
new substance to help distinguish effects. 1 hour after 5-htp (apx
10am - forgot to take at home), some nice tingles in my scalp and arms,
similar to very weak lollies, this can also happen to me when
listening to good tunes when sober, but this was not nearly as
powerful. effects of pr still present, but now i don't notice them as
much sorta like i'm getting used to them. Had 2 pints after work,
effects very profound, caution needed in future.

I have noticed some perhiperal vision visuals or maybe not ... like seeing a
bird in the sky when its not. but i think this might be hppd from
other substances, but now is much more noticable. I have also noticed a much keener sense of smell. I can smell things from a further distance and smells appear to be richer. I alway have a had very good sense of smell and taste (perhaps a super taster, never taken the blue tongue test though).

this has pluses and negatives. i'll leave that to your imagination :-)

Will be adding the following things to the equation in July.

1mg Quercetin

anti-oxidant, ant-inflamitory, anti-brain damage :-)

500mg L-Glutamine

L-Glutamine is a precursor to neurotransmitters in the brain. It also
imparts a protective effect on the brain but not as heavily as 5-HTP
or Vitamin C.

550mg L-Carnitine

Acetyl-L-Carnitine (ALC) is a cognitive enhancer and neuroprotective
agent that protects against a wide range of age-related degenerative
changes in the brain and nervous system. ALC is an ester of carnitine
that modulates cellular concentrations of free coenzyme A and
acetyl-coenzyme A, two compounds integrally involved in numerous
cellular functions, including the transfer of fatty acids across
mitochondrial membranes for energy production.

Great post! I have been researching Nootropics for the past couple of weeks trying to gather a few answers, this information has been valuable.

It was crammed, so of course I forgot some of it :)

I don't remember all of it, but still do remember enough to become familiar with it with a little revision.

My memory has always been good, but never THAT good

I'd write a formula out twice and that was that. It would stick rock solidly in my memory for a good few days.... it wasn't there permanently, but it was more than good enough to do the exam.

When I say photographic, I don't mean literally photographic. I can picture the pages of text though, and large amounts of what was on them (especially the important materials). The effect is most pronounced when I write it all out -- that's when I remember it well.

For anyone who cares, I'm in the middle of exams and I'm doing the same thing again. Barely went to solid state physics, crammed for 2 days and think I got well over 90% in the exam. Committed 35 formulae to memory and never looked back :)

Great thread, I have been reading a bit at ImmInst.org, but its always good to hear reports from trusted names on BL.

I have ordered some Piracetam, should arrive next week. I also bought some lecithin as my choline source, I am wondering if this is sufficient as a choline source and rougly how many 800mg lecithin caps (not sure how much choline is in an 800mg lecithin cap) would be required for a 1.6g maitenance dose of piracetam (I havn't decided if I am going to do an initial attack dose yet, but this will most likely be my initial regular daily dose).

Also, on a somewhat related note, I am nearly out of my multivitamin, can anyone on a good multi for use with nootropics (I am 22yr old male, if that matter).

Wouldn't glutamine be converted to glutamate = excitotoxic?

I don't know? I have taken this in the past, but not with piracetam.

I have lowered my dose of piracetam this week and lost all the 'visual' effects and the enhanced sense of smell. But head still seems 'clearer'.

Has anyone been able to determine if using Piracetam was actually a worth while endeavour?

Have read this thread from start to finish and it runs for well over 2 years. What I did notice was that BL users that had made some of the earlier posts did not return any difinitive results (and yes many of them are still active on BL forums).

So... anyone able to offer any results or criticism? Especially keen to hear from anyone that did use Piracetam regularly but then chose to stop. For whatever reason too, it doesn't really matter, more keen to hear if anyone was able to spot a difference in behaviour/memory.
