Pills circa 19xx Get all your pill nostalgia discussion done here

Best pills I ever took where triangular mitsubishis, around 2001, the feeling of empathy on the was unreal, fuck knows how my mate managed to drive on them, I'd have been hugging the steering wheel.

Leah Betts tested those for us, didnt she? :(

Ahhh beat me to it!

Leah Betts didn't die from taking pills though, she died because she didn't have a clue what she was doing and slunked pint after pint of water which put pressure on her brain and eventually killed her

MDMA in 1991.....

Not 1 "gurning" or face in sight!
None of these people look like they are on 'today's MDMA' at all.

Apart from the shirtless guy at 6:22 (who is obviously on speed too), peoples faces are relaxed, lit up & euphoric. No droopy eyes, no sticky-out jaws, no upside down "smiles".

Opinions aside. a video like this is probably the closest thing to hard evidence that the effects of MDMA were hugely different back in the day.

I'm not so sure about that...
I remember people being literally stuck to the walls in the rocket on holloway road, gurning their mush off.
MDMA is MDMA no difference
£15 a pill but top quality the idea of doing more than one never really entered the equation.
My first pills were pink and yellows and red and blacks
I startes raving at the right time two years later and the market was flooded with rubbish and stayed that way for quite some time.

Nor are they on the same MDMA that Dr. Shulgin was, either; the same MDMA he listed 'teeth clenching' and 'nystagmus' as common side effects of...

... but maybe Shulgin was wrong too, eh? :\

^^ Never said there wasn't teeth clenching & eye wobbles goin on.

Maybe "gurning" was the wrong choice of word. I meant the more mashed looking face that we more commonly see today.

Anyway, the general look of the crowd is what I thought seemed alot different to what we see at parties & in clubs nowadays. Didn't mean to get too into specifics of facial expressions.

I think most BL'ers will have to agree to disagree on this matter. :)

My opinion is kinda void as I did not experience MDMA in the early 90's. :(

There is only one chemical structure that is MDMA :)
I suspect if you take two structurally perect doses of mdma from two different laboratories the effects will be the same.
You're either taking MDMA or you aren't.
The amount of MDMA in a pill makes a big difference, the experience between 80mg and 120mg is pretty vast.
I guess those early classics had much bigger amounts of MD in.
The snowballs (which we were mindblowing btw) also supposedly contained MDA but no one was exactly testing back in the day other than on ourselves.

Mine too, Red n Blacks... Known as Dennis The Menace elsewhere apparently. That was one FINE night, that first time! Ached for a WEEK! Lol

Followed in later years by New Yorkers (were rather small, but potent, no cut line/no logo), Yellow/Pink Callies, Splitters, Flatliners, the infamous & aforementioned Snowballs, the return of the Doves (95ish), Apples etc & in the latter 90's Diamonds & the early Mitzi's...

Ohh my god that video was priceless. Some serious plur going on there.

Admittedly the music and what they were wearing made me cringe. I don't agree when you say they don't look mashed, they look abso-fucking-wasted -- more so then I typically see out in clubs now. Many were gurning their tits off, sweating like beasts and even massaging each other and themselves hahaha. I still regularly see sights like that now though, especially in Ibiza ;)

The music then was so shit (for power raving) -- I really think that computers, software and DSP has really come of age recently such that the limit is now the human producer and not the technology. By this I mean in 20 years people won't look back and find the music we listen to now as unsophisticated as we do to this. The House, Trance and Techno scene is so mature now -- almost sad though, maybe it will be whole new genres people take MDMA to in 20 years :(

I agree that a lot of, if not most of, the people in that video look well high. One thing that's interesting is that not that many people are drinking. Whether this is out of choice or because booze wasn't available at that venue I don't know.

Is it possible that now people are more likely to tan gallons of booze alongside their pills and get a bit of a diminished / less empathic / messier / harder to recall experience?

i too had many a batch of the middlesbrough mitsi triangles, they were huge, almost like those diarylea triangles you get!

remember paying like £2 a peice, and even less in some cases

The pills that killed Leah Betts were called New Yorkers - Everyone wanted them as they assumed that, after the media hype, they were mega strong. They were OK - nothing that special though.

We always called them Apples. I thought they were pretty good.
