Pens

i agree with samadhi -- the pen i've been using for letter writing is a nice silver bullet Parker pen.

I like heavy pens, but another coll thing to do is get a cheap pen that fits the 500 dollar pen's cartridges. Smooth writing ahead.

I am slightly obsessive over my pens.. I can't use 'gel' pens, they have to be ball-point and usually medium sized. The finer points scratch too much for my liking.

I feel the same way, gonna have to look and see if there are these Staedler pens available nearby.

Zebras are good pens but I prefer the basic $10 Parker pens because of the beefy spring and smooth glide of the ball. Pilot pens are also pretty decent. For drawing I love Stabilo Point 88s (fine felt-tipped pens), but usually use mechanical pencils because they're smooth like a mutha, 'specially if you write cursive. Can erase too :)

Pilot Precise V5 are bomb, they don't have any click-ey shit attached to them, and the ink and point are nice.

I totally agree, i love this pen for writting a drawing. i like the ball point better then felt tip when i want a want point.

But if were talking art pens I got to mention Brush Pens. Actually this whole like of Faber-Castell pens are great. And totally water proof!

i recently started using fountain pens and let me tell you... they changed my life completely. i use the twsbi diamond 540 pen with a fine tip. there are cheaper alternatives such as a disposable platinum preppy. http://www.jetpens.com/Platinum-Preppy-Fountain-Pen-Fine-03-Nib-Blue-Black-Ink/pd/1455
i used that before and it was the best daily note takin pen i had prior to the 540. fountain pens do not require lots of work and do not make a mess as much as people believe.

^fountain pens my handwriting turns out best with, but i would always break them.
no i gotta get one again.

A lot of companies hand out pens that look like Pentel Clients as promotional material. Rubber grip, medium point and very heavy in the hand. Does that one twist to expose/retract the nib? I think i have about 5 pens that look identical to that from various companies trying to schmooze. I even received one from a funeral director that was organising my grandfather's funeral. :\ What I want to know is why the hell funeral directors feel the need to pass out promo pens... :(

I honestly prefer fairly wide tipped sharpies. Makes Writing so easy and colourful and cute! Most of the time, I use a cheap pharmaceutical company give away ball point like

Because they are handy and everywhere.

I do have a nice Cross Classic Century 18k ball point pen/pencil set my Dad got me when I earned my Fellowship. I keep them in my office.

For me, it is usually a rose gold pen with blue ink. I'm a pen snob. If I write for work, it is strictly with blue ink as blue ink indicates the original!

I had my rose gold pen filled with blue ink refills yesterday. I use Sharpies, a blue Papermate or Bic, which I receive for free.

plus, you can use them to squirt ink in the eye of a villain before making good your escape!

I'll second (third, fourth) the recommendation for Pilot Precise V5. I like the retractable version, but I'm having trouble finding them lately. Did they get discontinued?

For erasable pens, there's nothing better than the Pilot FriXion pens. HUGE improvement over the old school erasable pens that never really erased, and left smudgy marks everywhere.

Screw snobby pens! I just finished signing a synopsis with a green ink, cheap plastic, made in korea ball point.

The job it needed to do is done, and at an expense of like $00.10.

Hahaha, I've used the FriXion pens. I couldn't BELIEVE how well they erased!
