The most profound experience I've had with entity contact actually came from mid-dose DMT while on MDMA. At first it was just the usual 'tryptamine swirlies' - distortions, geometric patterning, etc. - but, after a few moments, humanoid elves/sprites/spirits/what have you began dancing around the room, with a presence that is difficult to put into words. They didn't seem particularly concerned with my presence - but they seemed aware, and welcoming. My other entity contact experiences have all involved some degree of physical dissociation - mostly from either high dose DMT, or my youthful experimentation with salvia divinorum - and felt more distinctly 'alien.' I've seen humanoid shapes on high dose LSD before, but I always recognized them as manifestations of my own mind (not to say that DMT/salvia entities aren't, only that I did not experience them as such in the moment). That "deemz flip" experience was the only time those entities seemed 'real' in an almost corporeal sense, while still being distinctly otherworldly. Like I said, hard to put into words.
At any rate, I've found mushrooms much more psychologically taxing than DMT (or virtually anything else, tbh - shrooms can get pretty weird), but if you're concerned about your mental health, by all means, take it easy. The elves will be waiting for you when you're ready.
This whole topic of conversation is reminding me that I have a DMT pipe stashed away with quite a bit of elfspice still stuck to the glass. I probably have at least a breakthrough or two in there. Feeling a bit under the weather right now, but I may have to bust that out before too long and explore hyperspace a bit. It's been a while. I've also been rediscovering my love of 2C-B lately; I wonder what that combo would be like.
