hypertension. I've got decent healthcare now so I decided to get myself fully checked out a few months back. Everything is pretty good, including my liver (thank god!! I've abused/am abusing the hell out of that thing), but my cholesterol is high (family history) and my bp is high. If I can't bring it down I'll be on bp meds for the rest of my life, which kinda sucks in my mind. I've been working out a little every day (crunches, walking, nothing major), and i think that helps, I've been trying to see if I can keep it down by reducing the caffeine intake, and mainly drinking tea, which has threanine that counteracts some of the hypertensive effect of caffeine.

Took my bp tonight and it was 128/80, which is a lot lower than its been in a while. When i was at the docs it was like 145/95, which is up in the "Stage 1" hypertension area. He didn't put me on meds right away because I don't have too many risk factors (no heart probs in my dad or mom, I don't smoke cigarrettes). Turns out that they're not as worried about cholesterol as bp these days, but he says that If I can't get that down too, I'll be on cholesterol meds for the rest of my life. Joy. So yeah, reducing caffeine and trying to loose a little weight (although my bone structure is built large/kinda barrel-chested a bit, so I'll never be bean-pole skinny).

Hey Charlie man :)

Sox its great to see you around here bro. And great to hear that you have found a path for yourself.<3

i do hope find my path soon. Im starting to feel like a bit of a vagrant.

Thanks man. :)

About the vagrant thing; I was like that for a while, and to a point still dependent on others for my lifestyle. I've been more or less dependent on my parents for many years after being a legal adult, and if it weren't for them, doing the school stuff I plan on doing would put me under a mountain of debt.

I think we all have periods of vagrant-ness when things aren't so hot. Once you find your niche in the world, jump into it. :)

i saw Xorky yesterday and he is doing very well. He seems very happy and has put drugs behind him at this point in his life, except for pot since we did share a few bong rips together.

Glad to hear he's doing well. I chuckled at the "put drugs behind him... bong rips" :D

Hope everyone had a great sunday. I just finished reading "Fear and Loathing" by the great HST. Makes me wanna go on a psychedelic bender sometime soon. Maybe I will go to burningman this year and go hang out at Bat country (the hunter s thompson-themed camp).

I watched a documentary on him recently. Find a torrent for "Gonzo: The life and work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson" it's amazing; very well done and is actually about his life, the guy he was and the things he did.

What up PD. Been trying to drink less caffeine. Definitely had headaches the last two days. Lame.

Ya, caffeine withdrawal headaches suck. I've been hitting the caffeine pretty hard recently, sometimes the jitters and unfocused mental energy can get a bit much.

I find it helps me with my math course but too much is counter productive.

I just finished watching Diane Sawyer's interview with Jaycee Dugard. What a harrowing thing that woman has been through. I first heard about her a couple months ago when the news of her captors sentences came out. I had a hard time conceiving what I was reading. If you go searching for it be forewarned; the story is beyond horrible. I have to keep reminding myself that it's a happy ending.

Her memoir just got released today; I'm going to pick it up.

Good luck with your health man!
Docs dont usually try to treat every little thing that appears off the first time they see a patient. So its probably not that they are less worried about bp or cholesterol than before, but rather a better way of handling patient compliance, or just waiting for another test to confirm the first results (like you are not hypertensive just because 1 measurement was high once, but rather several days of measurment).
reducing caffeine might lower it a bit, but i wouldnt just do that. rather you working out is what really causes the low bp. sports also reduce cholesterol, but you should also check your diet. my mom had high cholesterol and she got it halved by just modifying what she ate (and she wasnt eating that bad before, but it was really all about choices).
be careful with stress though, you wouldnt want to force things and cause yourself more damage by overdoing stuff.

also, who loses a coke bag under a keyboard?? :P

whoa.
anyone ever heard of photosynth?
ive accidentaly stumbled upon this piece of software and it seems capable of amazing things... it basically can do either panoramas or 'synths' which are basically 3d reconstructions of an object or scene based only on photographs. the whole process seems kinda simple but i have yet to try it myself. but from the demos ive been looking at it looks really fascinating.

making photos just got even more interesting.

(also, a bit of insomnia here so sorry if this is interesting only to me)

Aaaaaaaand we're back! Woot! Yeah, the new layout will take some getting used to, but I'm glad to have bluelight back. Now I can waste tons more time on the internet than in the last week!
