Hi all

I got a few boxes 80mg Oxycontin, will i be ok to take a full tablet without getting rid of the time release and get a little high? or is it better to crush it and take only 1/4 or 1/2 a tablet with some water? i dont want to be to high just feel a little nice :) any info appreciated guys.....and gals.;)

Well first, do you have a tolerance to opiates in the first place? Otherwise a full 80 might have you really messed up regardless how you take it.

^^As he said, what is your tolerance? Are they the O.P's? If they are the O.P's it won't make a differnce if you crush them up or not....and also as he said even with a tolerance you will probably feel pretty good. I took an 80 O.P. after a two month break (NOT RECOMMENDED!) a couple years ago when I used to do opiates, and I had a consistent pretty good high for about 8-9 hours.

Right, so OP you could try splitting the pill in half and taking it that way (40mg) and see how you feel since you stated you don't want to get really high off them. I'd recommend taking it orally as well. Even still, that may be more than you're wanting if you have no tolerance. Remember to be safe about it!

Tolerance none at all, most ive ever taken is co codamol 30/500. They are prescribed for a back injury from the military. But, ive heard of people seriously getting fcuked up on oc and then moving on to much more......thats not what i want to do at all. Just make sure the pain isnt there, and possibly feel a little nice as well (why i asked about not getting rid of the time release) They aren't op these are the original Mundipharm tablets. Thanks for the advice so far.

Well seeing as you're opiate naive I'd cut the tablet into four segments, and chew up one quarter to begin with. That should get you pleasantly high. You can take more but don't push it further than 40mg. I personally wouldn't even go that high for starters anyway. You need to see how you react to it first. Don't go diving into this head first and end up killed.

IME, I was prescribed 10/325 Hydrocodone for a year. Then the doctor switched me to 15mg of Oxycodone IR. I have to say, I was feeling pretty good when I first took it.

Soooo, I would definitely NOT take the whole pill! 20mg will do you nicely I am positive.

Thanks for all the replies. This isnt something im going get hooked on is it? noob question i know and appologies. But that's definitely not what i want. Just pain free and kinda pleasant would be nice :)

well it depends how you use it and if you're using it for a legitimate pain condition that warrants the use of oxycodone.

it is a very easy substance to get hooked on. oxycodone is essentially pharmacutical grade heroin.

if you start to abuse it and take higher and higher doses then yes and very easily. if this isn't being prescribed to you, i strongly suggest visiting a doctor so that they can regulate and monitor your intake of the drug.

taking the drug recreationally is the surefire way to become addicted to the stuff. you'll find after your first dose that it is a very pleasant and euphoric drug to be taking. you need to be very weary of this and very strong minded to avoid taking higher than needed doses.

it's also an opiate which produces strong physical dependency very rapidly. you will find that even after a month or two of using the drug, when you try to take a day off you will experience withdrawals and physical discomfort.

if you're really looking for a drug that can ease your pain - i suggest visiting your doctor and picking up a weaker opiate if you need one. honestly, with or without a pain condition its a very VERY easy drug to get hooked on. get rid of these boxes now while you have the chance. after your first experience with the stuff (depending on whether you have an addictive personality or nature to you) you'll cling onto it for dear life.

Thanks for the frank and honest reply. To be fair, the co codamol work........just not for long with the back pain. The cons for 0C seem to outweight the pros heavily. So i will get rid of the boxes i have here. Is Vicodin similar? i have access to most medications, and i think i will give this one a miss. Thanks again for the replies.

i think that is a very good and wise idea. i really respect your decision to do so and am proud of you. well done. you have just saved yourself from a very painful long drawn out addiction that could have very easily happened.

if the co-codamol is working, perhaps you could ask for an extended release version of codeine. how many co-codamols do you take a day in order to manage your pain situation?

if you don't mind me asking - where do your back pain problems stem from? i know you say from the military, but what exactly? what other treatments have you had to try and sort it out? are you seeing a physiotherapist regularly and doing back exercises etc.?

vicodin is again a step up from codeine, but if you feel that the co-codamol is not working as it should do then perhaps its time to step up to vicodin. again - beware, this stuff is potent and can lead to addiction much easier than codeine can. codeine is a substance which is very easy to manage in terms of addiction and dependency in comparison to the stronger opiates including vicodin which may eventually lead to another stronger opiate as you build tolerance.

are you under a doctors care at the moment with regards to your medication? it is very wise to do so as he will monitor your usage and suggest if you really need to move on to a stronger opiate based pain killer.

if possible you need to start to manage your back pain as efficiently as possible without using opiates to treat the pain. i know there is no short term fix, but getting involved in several therapies to help your back is the best in the long run it will save you the troubles of having to use high powered opiates.

Most painkillers are short-acting. They're usually only good for 4 hours-6 hours tops. Are the codamol working for that length of time? If not, then you need to go to the next potent painkiller, which would be Hydrocodone (Vicodin). I would start with the 5/500mg or 5/325mg every 6 hours.

FYI- many people get addicted to Hydrocodone too. You have to be careful with any narcotic pain medication. Hope this helps.

i think that an extended release form of medication would be ideal - but not such a potent one as oxycodone. if you can get an extended release version of codeine that would be ideal, or one that doesn't contain APAP. again - what doses are you taking at the moment and how frequently? oxy really is used only for extreme cases of pain or cancer patients. it's not really suited for people with back pain (it is in some cases) but you have noted that the co-codamol is relatively doing the trick in helping with the pain.

Well i should be taking 2 tablets every four hours. But as we all know ( those with moderate to severe pain) that doesnt work in the real world. I had a blast injury that did some damage to my lower lumbar region. Had acupuncture, epidurals everything. But my job as 3G engineer means im climbing high masts in cold weather (not good for the back at all) I may have to see my GP then and see what my options are maybe the Vicodin can help? So instead of the eight im meant to take.....im taking ten.

i see. so what doses are you currently taking? don't be shy, who really listens to the back of the packet for instructions of use eh. if you are taking a lot more than that, then i think that vicodin could be a good alternative. it will also stop the chances of liver toxicity from the apap in the co-codamols.

where do you live? in the states?

have you been going to regular physiotherapy sessions? they really do help out a lot.

again as stated, vicodin is also a potent narcotic and carries a higher risk of addiction than codeine does. it may also make you feel more drowsy than codeine, and climbing masts under the influence of a relatively powerful opiate may not be the best of ideas either.

i really suggest that you head to your doctor to discuss alternate medications for your back pain. i think to just jump to vicodin without his approval would be a little reckless and unwise.
