Hello all, my name is Angela and I'm twenty-one.
I'm prescribed Roxicodone and Percocet for break-through pain relief. We're talking 5mg here, so small that it never gets rid of all the pain. It's what I take, though, so I'm obviously not very hardcore lol
I first took Oxycodone after my wisdom teeth were removed in 2007. It almost killed me in the beginning, to be honest. I was knocked out very quickly, but I woke up in a gasp my heart was pounding and I was covered in sweat. After that first mishap, I was fine. I had surgery in 2008 and was given more Oxycodone as I was discharged. I got to where I could take it without falling asleep, but it also was able to help me fall asleep at night. In a sense, it was rather perfect.
Fast-forward to the end of 2009. I'm dealing with ovarian cysts and two herniated discs in my lower back. Something starts to go wrong each time I take Oxycodone. First, I get insomnia. Second, and most importantly, I get sleep paralysis. Every. Single. Time. And it's terrifying!! Sometimes there's auditory hallucinations with the sleep paralysis.
The weirdest thing is, I'll take the 5mg of Oxycodone at 3pm... and when I'm going to sleep eight hours later, THEN these symptoms start. If I lie down at 4pm I'm nice and peaceful, I have less pain. The insomnia is still there, but there's no sleep paralysis.
I finally broke down after a horrible night and called the hospital pharmacist. He said that what I'm experiencing should not be happening and I'm having a reaction. Does anyone know what's causing this, though? What's happened to me? I'm going to have to take this medicine again before I meet with my doctor and I get so scared each time I have to take it.
As background, I do have a bunch of health issues. Could an elevated protoporphyrin level cause this? Liver disease? No gallbladder?
I have no idea what has suddenly happened.
Thanks for reading
