Covid-19 Outbreak of new SARS-like coronavirus (Covid-19)

I am Spanish. I probably know a little more about the COVID19 as it hit Europe a little before.
The first thing to have in mind it is that mostly all data is unreliable. China's data goes without saying for obvious reasons. In the case of Italy and Spain they are only testing really sick people who have already respiratory problems. If your sympthomatology is fever and coughing they tell you to stay at home and you are not in the statistics. Some mathematical models here in Spain estimate that the real number of people infected is about 100 times!! the official infected number of people. So, right now It is not 20000 if not around 2 millions.

That is the most important reason why the mortality rate varies tremendously among countries. For mortality rate we should trust South Korea, because they are the ones who have tested more intensively their population. They are estimating is around 0.6%. Of course, if health services colapse, and they will, that number will go up.

Things are going to get pretty bad. Italy is already discarding old people for intensive care because shortage of facilites. And in Spain we are told we'll start to be on that situation from tomorrow on probably.

I am going to skip all the part where I insult all politicians. Too many too name in too many different places and from all kind of political inclinations. Take care all of you. Be very careful.

Yeah, the UK is also going with 0.5%-1%.

Though it would be less for women, and twice the rate for men.

And obviously over 80s is around 15-18%, while under 40s is something like 0.1-0.2%.
I just read that 4 people from the same Family in the UK have died. Talk about unlucky.

China is a location in which Chinese people are from yes. I know what you mean though.

Your really not a fan of China are you CH?
It certainly has many major things that bother me but I actually really like the country. I lived there for over a month and speak manadrin fluently 🙂
I'm not a fan of genocidal communist party, no. The people of China deserve better.

His optimism was a cover too.

If I was him I'd have a good feeling about it too I'm sure we're going to get a cure or treatment or antiretroviral therapy discovered soon even if I didn't release it into the wild like I believe Trump did I'd be really happy to spin it all around to make me look like the savior...

He is taking advantage of this.

^ you prolly want to get more up to speed on the sciency bit, antiretrovirals work against retroviruses by inhibiting reverse transcriptase, there is no reverse transcriptase in novel coronavirus because it is not a retrovirus.

why would Trump spin it around so you Captain Heroin look like the savior (sic) ????

savoir is a region in France another country you probably hate.

Sorry to break all to you jingoistic nationalist tools, the last time and next time you or your loved ones are in hospital your life will literally depend on Chinese people, Chinese chemists, Chinese equipment manufacturers, Chinese electronics manufacturers and so on. Not the Chinese government, the Chinese people.
America willingly destroyed its own scientific and industrial capability with a neoliberal neutron bomb, the buildings may stand but the people and the knowledge has already gone.
Despite all the bullshit from Washington China hasn't cut Amerika off and let it die, maybe that is a strategic error from China in seeking a win win, rather than the win lose Trump always seeks we shall see.

Not going to take a public position on the Chinese govt, but I genuinely like HK and China

I also don’t think using a name such as “Chinese Virus” is efficient, or sensitive - especially in this day and age.

Blame is also not what we should be focused on, if that is what calling it “Chinese Virus” is supposed to do...

However, China’s attempt to silence alarms, to attack the scientist that did alarm, did lead to a greater outbreak into the world. The mishandling began on their end, and I hope we drastically re-do our relationship with them in the future. They actually are to blame - their “government”.

I actually thought CH was joking. IMO even the suggestion that 'donald is responsible' is just inane. He is the president of America. He is not a biological weapons specialist.

Bioweaponry development would require years of heavy reserch and development. Its not simply a case of a someone thinking up the idea (donald) and *bang* a bioweapon falls from the sky. Lets think reasonably about this. Taking into account the above who do you think is the more likely candidate.

A bio facility that deals with that exact thing, that happens to be where the virus was first reported?

Or a single individual over in America named Donald.

🤨

I read that this disease may have come from a dish called "bat soup", which is exactly what it sounds like. Just a dead bat floating around in a bowl of broth.

Health Canada is asking pharmacists to be more lax with take-home opioid doses:
Health Canada said:
We strongly urge Ministries and regulators to conduct a thorough assessment of any barriers to access to medicines that could contravene public health advice for social distancing and self-isolation, when appropriate. This could include, for example, temporarily lifting restrictions on take-home doses (“carries”) of opioid agonist treatments, and allowing those with chronic conditions to obtain enough medication to last through a period of self-isolation.

Health Canada is asking pharmacists to be more lax with take-home opioid doses:

Yeah frankly everywhere needs to be doing this.

The distinct impression I get reading my local opioid treatment guidelines is that nobody ever expected something like this to happen.

They predicted the possibility of a natural disaster, and there are provisions in place for it. But it's expecting something like flooding, something that happens relatively frequently.

There's no existing provisions for a major pandemic.

It's most likely that even if he had nothing to do with it he still allowed it to get into the country. He is gaining so much out of this including all of his platform promises like shutting the borders down non-Reliance on China and so on...

And then he even just talks about the stock market all day long.

If you all really believe he's that out of it unable to be competent and has dementia and nobody did anything to stop him that then makes the rest of American government who could have stopped him just as culpable.

We got to also wonder why Pelosi wouldn't sign $1000 into law...

Except trump has systematically removed everyone less than absolutely loyal to his whims from the white house. There is noone else.

Besides, I'm still thinking Coronavirus could actually cost trump the election.

I don't see how it's in his interest to look like a complete idiot saying "oh its nothing, there's no problem" one week, then "it's very serious just as I always said" the next.

I don't see how it's in his interest to destroy the economy. When that's one of the most reliable ways to end a presidency.
