Other Drugs Forum Feedback Thread

since we're touching on the subject of mega threads - i'd like to see them utilised properly more (all) of the time. instead of the self serving, diary type withdrawal threads for instance.

sure, they're allowed in here but it's really not the best place to be keeping a diary of your progress. either use blogs or if it fits within TDS that would be another place for the emotional support.

there's a mega thread designed already for tapering plans so there's no need for all the monologues in my opinion.

those threads are just something just grate me personally.

^^It definitely does get tiring to read all the "help me withdraw from drug x with only this, this and this" threads, especially since as you said, there's a wealth of info as to how to do so in many other threads.
On the other hand, I kinda understand because if you're already in withdrawal, you want to spend as little time as possible doing anything that's not curling up in a ball on your bed.

It seems like every megathread should have a first post FAQ, which would let users read the "best of" whatever is inside those 25+ pages.

Seriously, I think mega threads might hurt more than they help. If a user does a thread title search (which is how most people search) any specific IV info inside the mega thread will not turn up in the results, and if an IV user is looking for specific help, the idea of sifting through so many pages looking for a specific answer is daunting to say the least.

But, if all the best advice in the megathead was posted up front, most people would get their answers to the most common questions right away.

How about it, mods? If all those threads get merged into megathreads, a page one FAQ would help a lot of people whose specific questions get lost in the shuffle.

I'd have to agree with that. It'd be great to see an FAQ on the first page.

A lot of the megathreads have a ton of information edited into the first post, but not all do and it'd be nice if it was all in one type of format. It'd be easy to find useful info if it was in a Q&A format on the first page.

For example if it was the bupe megathread:

Q:what is bupe used for?
A:ORT, opiate detox, etc.

Q:Can it be IV'd?
A:Yes, but micron filtering is recommended...

Anyways, I know the bupe thread already has that, but I just used it as an example. It'd just be nice to see all megathreads follow a single format to keep it easy to read and easy to find the information you need.

before you even start using opioids you should have learnt of the physical and psycholigical addictions associated with the class of drugs.

people would rather moan and bitch even more when i close their thread because they've opened it specifically for this reason : "help, i'm in so much pain, what can i do" than contribute something worthwhile to the community.

you're not going to die from a little dope sickness and the physical side (in most of the instances posted in OD) is going to be over in a few days. from then on a lot is about psychological cravings and controlled use if you don't want to end up addicted again to come on and winge again.

a lot of us like the drugs, prepare yourself.

Furthermore, we can always expand the FAQ section of the Suboxone. A Bluelighter named haden took it upon himself to do just that.

A lot of people don't check the FAQ before posting their question though, but I hope more users will read through the FAQ before asking questions in the future.

Thank you Leftwing.

If someone was dependent on barbiturates, or is prone to delirium tremens due to acute ethanol withdrawal, we would definitely advise they go to the ER. However, in most cases, heroin withdrawal is not immediately or directly life threatening.

If I was a nail, you just pounded me on the head.

I am certainly empathetic to people in painful withdrawals as I've been there more times than I should have but this forum gets disproportionately weighed down by these threads and it hinders the discussion in other important areas.

^ Good points. They are very self-serving, consider for example a particular thread that's on the first page right now that is one massive post about the user's WD experience. No one is going to read through that, and the topic has been done to death before.

I think the mods here do a great job and I think this transparency is great. A lot of the problems I see around OD are more to do with the users and the same things being asked all the time.

^ Exactly; if we found a way so that no one ever had to ask the same questions again, there would be no need for you guys. ;)

But in truth, information does evolve and things do change, so even the repetitive questions can sometimes be of use.

You're completely right there. I've found that many users are complete whiny bitches when it comes to being sick, myself included at times, though I try to not whine to anyone about it since I know what I can and can't do to help myself.

Now if I only I could look at $15 and say to myself, "buy some subs for when you're sick" and not say, "what can I do to get enough money to take a trip to Newark, I would never have any problems. Damn my lack of self control.

That being said, there's a thousand threads on here that outline exactly the items that will help combat the symptoms of withdrawal such as subs, benzos, clonodine, etc.

I've found that addicts can be pretty resourceful people when need be, but somehow when it comes to getting money for things other than heroin, they won't do a damn thing to get it. I've known addicts to drive in a blizzard, sick as shit, for hours, risking their life to drive to Newark in order to cop, but they can't seem to scrape up a few dollars and make some phone calls to find a couple subs and some benzos to completely rid themselves of any withdrawal symptoms.

In all fairness, when you use Suboxone and Benzos, you still withdrawal, but you feel much better than having nothing to combat the withdrawal.

There are a lot of excellent guides here at Bluelight, thanks for pointing that out. :)
