Has anyone else ever experienced this???...I have been using opiates for 10yrs now, IVing for 2 of them and lately I have been experiencing panic attacks??...But it's only when I Start to experience a slight Nod (which is very rare for me)..i will actually start to enjoy my high for once and then all the sudden it feels like i can't breath and i get a rapid heart beat, tunnel vision, dizziness and all the other usual symptoms of a Panic Attack...So my question is could it be from the excessive amounts of opiates i use..since it takes an extreme amount to even give me a slight nod...or is it related to something else??? Thanks xoxoxoxoxo Bella

It was panic attacks for me, but are you certain that they are for you? I have had panic attacks on opiates, but they were slightly different. What worries me is that you get this only when you nod, as I would get mine at random times.

I really see two possibilities: One, you're basically jerking yourself alert when you nod out, either consciously or subconsciously, or two, you're actually losing enough oxygen from the respiratory depression that you're starting to feel the lack of oxygen and jerking awake for this reason. It is really not comforting,I know, but opiate sedation and nodding do impact oxygen levels and the lack of oxygen does negatively impact the body, even harming the brain and other vital organs in some cases.

I'd recommend getting your nods from the lowest dose you can... Any extra sedation is not wanted, and the knowledge that your oxygen levels are not dangerously low should be helpful in avoiding those panic attacks as well (you gain this confidence by dosing within boundaries you define).

Also, if you're smoking weed to help you nod, it is probably to blame.

I am prone to panic attacks anyway, and have them fairly regularly whether I am on drugs or not, but opiates tend to calm me down a lot (big surprise there). However, I've been noticing lately that when my opiates start to wear off, I get really anxious. It could just be that you are going from such an extreme level of relaxation (really high/nodding/etc.) to baseline in my case, or jerking awake in your case. The anxiety could come from wanting to cling to that good feeling.

Are you prone to panic attacks usually or is this the only time they happen?

i have had this once with vicoprofens.
i took 30mg then i smoked a ton of weed and i got very pale and my heart started racing.
my family was like, why are you so pale and sweaty. i thought i was gonna die

I have only had a few panic attacks before (only when i go on roller coasters and rides such as) so I KNOW that this is what I am having...Could it be a mild OD maybe...I understand what you mean as to the jerk when nodding (also as in when ur sleeping and sudden awake) and this is how it starts followed by the panic attack....I am extremely puzzled as this has only just started happening

I used to get really bad anxiety/border line panic attacks when i would start nodding as well. Didn't start happening until im pretty sure it was a mild OD before i would start nodding.

I think people jerk themselves out of nods pretty regularly, but from what it sounds like, these are a bit deeper of nods than the usual nod. What I mean is that when you are just kinda noddy from a decent dose, you are still like half-conscious for the nodding period... On larger doses, it seems to be more of a snap back to reality... possibly, it could be a snap back to consciousness. If that is the case, then your oxygen levels are definitely dropping to lower than healthy levels and this should definitely be kept in check.

^it sounds like you're talking about myoclonic/hypnic jerks and these are common in opioid users even when not taking doses required to nod. I rarely took enough to nod but I experienced these regularly.

^ That actually explained a lo for me thanks, i used to get random jerks all the time while doing H when i wasn't nodding.

^(@Cane) Yes, I'm sure this is the jerk, but I think that this happening specifically with the panic attacks and deeper than usual nods could be a sign that the dose is high, to the point of low oxygen levels coming into play. The low oxygen levels from large doses is definitely an issue... I think this is a pretty good sign that it is approaching, if not reaching the hazardous level.

^oh I fully agree. I apologize if I gave the impression that I was incredulous of any part of your posts. I think you're spot on throughout.

^Haha... Thanks for the ego stroke... I will stroke you in return, don't worry! ;)

I put my money on that it's just you and really nothing to do with opiates, since you said that you're prone to panic attacks anyways. Someone that is prone to them and still gets them on IV heroin obviously has a terrible anxiety disorder. It's not something to be ashamed of by any means, but treating it with opiates isn't that smart. Why (other than the higher chances of ODing)? Well, eventually, as I suspect in your case, the opiates are hardly working any more.

There are many other better options out there, and once you get your anxiety under control, you'll find that you'll get A LOT higher off a lot less, and at any rate you'll be much more relaxed all the time, so it will be make much easier to enjoy all the subtleties of the opiate high (the plow your head in the ground with a kamakazi plane is a given).

i get them when i feel like ive done to many opiates and panic that i may stop breathing.

Nope never.

Might wanna make sure the roxy's you get are legit since we seem to be getting flooded with fake M box 30's, just lookin out.

Those fake roxis aren't getting people high - which clearly isn't relevant in this thread. And anxiety related to nodding out is far from un common.

The last time I did smack, I was coming down and had a panic attack. Havent touched the stuff since.

NO FUN!

Those fake roxies gave me the worst feeling/panic attack of my life, almost went to the ER.

I don't shoot the stuff like the OP does so that tells me he prolly had real ones, i've yet to hear about anyone banging the fakes.

Hmmm...strange! I noticed that I have SEVERE anxiety when smoking weed since starting opiates, so anything's possible. Maybe it has something to do with respiratory depression/breathing effects?

She already has anxiety though, so I'm guessing it's more to do with that she was so relaxed and doing things she normally wouldn't, and then when they wore off thinking like, "wtf am I doing here?"
